Is using voice commands from pirate chat toxic?

  • So recently I was playing arena and trying to win by farming kill points on a boat. The person I was farming kills off of became very angry and started calling me "a*s" and "an aimbotter." I found this very humorous so I decided to spam the "making light work of this" and "rolls on deck laughing" after each kill I got on him. He said that he was going to report me for toxicity.

Is using the pirate chat in that way toxic, or is the pirate chat never toxic because it is a Rare added feature? That game I didn't type or talk in game chat once so I know that he wanted to report me for using those text commands. Is there a possibility that I get banned for toxicity for using a feature of the game?

If anyone was being toxic from your account of the events, it was the other person as they were the ones using the vulgarity and accusations. You cannot be toxic using Pirate Chat....unsportsmanlike perhaps but definitely not toxic.

  • @l-866-942-3551 probably should have given him a chance

  • @barmaley7580
wdym by give him a chance?

  • @l-866-942-3551 I was insulted and killed a lot in this game that I became more relaxed in such things. The odds of both of you in battle are equal, so it's okay

  • Some people will find anything toxic, don't worry about it. Some wants chat to be removed altogether, some will say that the pirate wheel stuff can be used to taunt and whatnot, hell it's a matter of time before some people find some emotes offensive as well.

  • @barmaley7580
i have no idea what your talking about

  • If we’re going off Thhings Rare added that can turn toxic. Kegging ships, spawn camping, stealing, curse cannon balls.

All tools given to us but all can be used in a toxic way.

  • @barmaley7580 if he wanted a chance he should scuttle. spawn camping is okay.

  • The way I see it no, especially if he started calling you stuff first which gives him no right to report for toxic behavior at all

  • Some people do seem to get upset about these things, so I guess from their perspective it's toxic. I understand why you did it but there is such a thing as going too far, so you both could probably learn from the experience. I just hope rare doesn't give in to these people and overly sanitize the game.

  • It's generally considered good form to NOT RESPOND AT ALL, as a response could potentially be turned against you. It's generally safest to just:

    1. mute,
    2. report,
    3. and move on.

Regarding whether the quick chat can be used in a toxic manner, I think the answer is obvious - yes it can. Can you be reported for it though? That's definitely a question that I think can only really be answered by specific Rare employees or the Xbox Live Enforcement Team.

Personally, though, SoT is nowhere near as toxic as other games where quick chat is used in a toxic manner. Take Rocket League (another game that I like to play), for example - its quick chat is purposefully designed to have double meanings. Just some examples:

    1. Nice shot!
    2. What a save!
    3. Okay.
    4. Wow!
      Etc.

Because of how it's setup, and the frequent frustration of numerous players paired with randoms, the quick chat is almost exclusively toxic, which makes it incredibly hard for those like myself who are genuine. I kid you not, players in that game will straight up quit the moment you say anything. And this is despite being genuinely friendly and only trying to help. They take it as an insult, and will immediately impede your ability to win as a sort of pseudo punishment. Even worse, they too have a mute function available to them, but they pretend like it doesn't exist. 🙄

Rocket League is an amazing must-play game, IMO, but its community is just complete garbage.

    1. mute,

I found him very funny, and I have no problem if people are toxic/trash talk me

    1. report,

He was a streamer and I have no intention of taking away the game him and his fans enjoy

    1. and move on.

    basically did that

This was the main point of my post. In my opinion I think toxicity adds a nice layer of fun and competition into video games. While I do believe this I also respect Rare's wishes for this game to be a non-toxic. That is why I use the Quick Chat in this way, it's not outright toxic but it still adds that level of salt and competition. This post was to ask whether or not I could be banned for using Quick Chat in this way.
