How often do you win/lose PvP?

  • How often would you say you win vs. Lose in PvP?

    I feel like it's 50/50 right now.

I haven't won against another Galleon yet though. So those are 0 wins for now.

  • @idneon For me, 95/5. I pick the fights that I want to fight. If someone comes at me, and I want to fight, then I'll fight them. If I don't want to fight, then I'll have fun leading them on a goose chase.

Any ship you use in particular?

  • @idneon I solo sloop

  • I'd say around 90% win

  • @idneon
Adventure: 95% win rate when using sloop or brig. Maybe 50% when using galleon. I hate it.
Arena: 80% 1st place rate on sloop. 95% top 3 rate. Almost never do galleon arena.

  • You can't lose if they can't catch you...
    ☠👩🏽‍🏫

  • If memory serves me

Never won or lost a pvp, rarely do I encounter pvp players. Or any players for that matter.

  • @idneon

What do you define as a win?
    What situation are we talking?

I have a pretty good track record, I also find myself often alone on the seas and I have been quite actively seeking battle since day one. There is a lot to consider when it comes to PvP engagements and activities in the game.

    • Like is it a win to avoid and bore your opponents to death in a chase to secure your loot? Not a single shot fired?
    • Is it a win to have a crew run off during battle because they ran out of supplies and I simply let them go?
    • Is it a win if the kraken interfered and engulfed the ship?
    • Is it a win to steal a ship and engage in battle with it and have both ships sink?
    • Is it a win to defeat a crew that originally sank you?

Based on my decision making, risk taking, the opponents I meet and the goals I set the engagements have a huge variety to consider.

Now I also have sometimes clear losses and usually it is a combination of over eager, rash and risky moves on my end and decent play on the other end.

There are some crews that have just clearly outclassed me, but it is usually a very rare occurrence that it is that clear cut when I lose. I have also times where I am clearly outclassing others.

Some wins are more of an achievement than others. While some losses are more enjoyable than a victory.

To be fair in an open world game where the goals of one side and the other can be in complete defiance or can even coexist it is a bit of a bit weird to ask about win rates.

  • 25/75 win/loss

My crew and I have bad luck when it comes to PvP no matter if we attack or defend. I often find myself being on the receiving end of one-shots with the blunderbuss but mine will take two-three shots or that my sword will seemingly do no damage while I get downed within the first two hits. PvE RNG is also against us; we've had the Kraken attack us when we've been both pursuing and running from other ships or the wind going against us at all times the moment we turn to to it. We're often in a galleon or a brig if one of us can't make it.

I don't know if it's glitches, hacking or just skill and it happens way too often that one guy can solo all four of us. Having them catch the ladder after getting knocked off with a blunderbuss, climb up and bounce around picking us off one by one with none of us seeing them consume food but tank a number of hits from both range and melee attacks.

  • As a sloop, roughly 90% assuming I have a good helmsman for a crewmate (I'm horrible at solo sloop because I can't board)

As a brig, roughly 95% assuming I have a good helmsman.

As a galleon, 60-70% assuming good team, the galleon just doesn't have the speed or control to win fights unless the enemy has the intelligence of the average sandwich.

  • @idneon solo i didnt lost anything for over a year iirc, but i solo rarely and the PvP i do then is sandbox pvp. This means, watching the horizon, running, tricking other peopme, stealing unnoticed to me is already PvP.
So not fighting in the sense of it.
But to me this is how sandbox pvp works, if you manage to sell loot and dont get sunk you were successfully passive PvPing.
No losses for over a year or so.

As a crew we barely sink.
    I'd say 50:1.
Two weeks ago we sank three times, but we didnt take it serious and also fought 2 Galleones at once while doing event and on a Brig.

I cannot remember the day or month we sunk this year before that.
Maybe 6 Month ago or so, really cant remember.
    Crew means Brigantine or Galleone.
Mixed women and men, xbox and PC.

  • 4% win 96% salt

  • I've often wondered this, so good question.

I win 85/15 against other ships. My crew rocks a brig. We aren't stellar players or anything, which is why I've wondered why we always win so much.

When we started this summer, all we wanted to do was play as Reapers. We leveled ourselves up really quickly by seeking PvP engagements every chance we got. I think that, maybe, this gave us a leg-up on other new players.

  • @cotu42 said in How often do you win/lose PvP?:

    @idneon

    • Is it a win to defeat a crew that originally sank you?

Yes, it is a win. It's the biggest win you can win. Nothing tastes finer than revenge.

  • @bigbuoyboy I am not to sure about that. The brig that I sunk that came for me, sold all their loot, battled them on their return for a good 30 mins, killed them multiple times, nearly sunk them and finally lost a battle after the guy boarded and finally managed to kill me, let him on multiple times and lead to me being sunk.

I considered that a win on my end or at least a good fight, but might be wrong or we are both right and we both won?

  • lol i want to see some stats.
i believe the better players are going to be the ones on the forums but if im to believe everyone in here it sounds like nobody ever dies except poor ol' @nAhTheGuy

  • @supersnipper60
arguably you're not counting your retreat as a loss, so this question is pretty subjective.

Not saying fleeing to a better position is a bad strat.
but "leading them on a goose chase", is certainly a nice way of saying retreated from the battle.

I never said that I 'retreat.' I don't flee. I sail away from them. It is their choice to attack me, and they take it. I get that you're a pvp fan, but some people aren't. I choose the fights that I want.

  • Alot of "winners" in this thread. Why can't we seem to find you on any of the servers?

  • @idneon

I count wins as situations where I steal every bit of loot from them, or at the VERY least they don't get any piece of loot. I don't count things like castaway chests or trinkets from a normal fort as loot, but at the FotD, every piece of loot counts. With that as the bar, I've only lost about 7 encounters with that criteria.

One was when they boarded me and my 3 other crewmembers failed to stop him from getting on ladder. There was 1 on harpoon who made the call, "Right ladder" So someone went right ladder, but the boarder boarded left ladder and anchored us. The third guy was getting ammo and food as we were close enough to take snipe shots at the ship we were chasing, so he was down below. I was on wheel, and couldn't guard ladders as I had to maneuver us around arena rock and make sure we didn't crash. They escaped with the FoTD loot.

Another time was in an alliance server that I infiltrated with 3 other people, problem being I wanted to play it safe and sink the other ships, and the other 3 crewmates wanted to spawnkill 4 people on a galleon when they had 200+ ping. So it left me tending to our galleon alone while the other 3 kept cannoning off and dying because they had high ping and couldn't kill 4 people on a galleon. I would get our boat into position and as I was cannoning they would die, and then I would have to leave quickly before the opposing team got on cannons and started firing on us. Because my 3 crewmates couldn't spawncamp the other crew (Something I didn't want them doing in the first place, I wanted to just hit them with cannons, AND THEN board afterwards) That ship stayed alive and the rest of the alliance swarmed in and since I was normally the only one on the boat vs 4 other galleons, we sank.

Every other time that I can think of was just them running away before we could do anything. At least 3 times we saw a FoTD, and as we were sailing over they finished it and put all the loot on their boat, and then by the time we got there they were running away and they were able to sell most of the loot. Once someone was able to rowboat the athena chest away from the FotD and we didn't see it. I count that as a lose since we should've kept track of all the rowboats. Ever since then I always keep an eye on rowboats or keep someone guarding the loot if possible.

One time I had a pretty fun encounter though where someone tried to rowboat the athena away, one of my crewmates saw it and couldn't kill him in time. So we went on a wild goose chase with 3 people on our boat and 1 on island guarding loot, as we tried to find the guy rowboating away. I honestly popped off IMO and was very happy that I was able to guess where he went and we found him and killed him. I guessed he would go to Daggertooth as that was the direction he was rowing last time we saw him, and so I was able to cut him off and met with him again at Shipwreck Bay.

And I even fought Pace22 and BoxyFresh before. With Pace22 I was on a brig with my inexperienced friends who weren't the best with SOT, but could hold their own in a ship vs ship battle. We did the FotD and fought and sank about 8 ships total so by the end of it we were out of planks, cannonballs, and food. We had nothing. My friend saw a mermaid pop next to our boat, so as SOON as we got the key we ran away. Apparently Pace stayed back at the FotD and used his rowboat to cut us off to where we were going, as we just ran away and the circled back around to try and fight the galleon we saw coming towards us with what little supplies we had on our pockets. Pace boarded our ship at the same time that I had left to try and board the galleon, Pace killed both of my friends and was on our ship. I mermaided back at the same time one of my crewmates respawned, and we killed Pace in the water. I have a clip of it. I recognized the name Pace X and as we were running away I check his stream to see if it was really him, and it was. So with our supplies expended and knowing that it was Pace22 we ran into the red sea, and sank our boat with the key. I count our encounter with Pace22 as a tie.

The fight with BoxyFresh was pretty recent, we had just tucced on a brig doing FlameHeart and we just looted up the last of the loot and put it on our boat when we saw a rowboat headed towards us. (Again I was with my inexperienced friends) They almost hit their rowboat but were just shy, Boxy and his friend jumped off and tried to board us so one of my friends jumped in after him and got sniped twice and died. I jumped in and recognized the name BoxyFresh and out of pure excitement missed my first snipe. I got him to 20 HP with by blunder shot, and then got hitreged with my other snipe and so he didn't die. My 3rd friend jumped into the water and missed 3 sniper shots so unfortunately we couldn't kill anyone. All 3 of us died in the water, and they climbed onto our boat for free. After that we all respawned at the same time and popped out to kill them. My 2 friends killed Boxy's friend and I blunder'd Boxy off of the ship, we then all jumped in and chased him, killed him, and we went on our way. We just happened to run towards Boxy's ship, and knowing that he's good at chainshots and my friends are inexperienced, we ran away with full side wind with our brig and ran to Ancient Spire. They left the game after that since they didn't want to chase us, and we got away and sold our loot. I count that as a win as we prevented our loot from being stolen, even after we all died in the water.

Anyways, with all of that being said. I'd say my W/L is around 98/2

I think it's because most of us fight when we will win. Which is Normal..and avoid fights when disadvantaged.

Which is why I'm starting the "Whale Hunter's Club"

A prestigious group of PvP'ers who hunt Reaper's emissaries and deliver fair PvP to other PvP'ers 😈

  • @mathemoto

Alot of "winners" in this thread. Why can't we seem to find you on any of the servers?

Most people who play this game suck at PvP. They only play the game for voyages, and rarely do any sort of combat, that's why you can't find them on the servers. And that's why most people who are even remotely interested in PvP tend to win a lot of their battles. I personally don't judge people on their ability to kill noobs, I judge them on their ability to kill other skillful players. There were so many times I've gotten a 100,000+ gold steal, and I barely had to work for it. I just boarded their boat, 1v4'd, and then sank them. So because of my experience I know for a fact that most of these people who claim to have a 90% winrate or something like that, probably only fight bad players and when they meet a crew that's actually good at PvP, they faulter.

If you achieved your goal and made them fail theirs... sounds like a win ;)

People act that the only way to victory is to sink your enemy, kill your enemy and murder everyone. The fact is this is an open world game, the conditions of winning in a game are those that the people set for themselves. Denying someone a battle they seek can be a victory, selling all the loot before you die and sink can be a victory...

  • @Hunglykabear

@SuperSnipper60 also said he solo sloops. You play by a slightly different rule set then of of necessity. Not panicking when she starts to fill up and knowing when to bail and when to fix is key here. Sloops are fairly easy to bring back from the brink in general if you got the wood.

This comes with experience though, i'm getting there, but 70% of the time I'll still try to out sail and board and drop anchor or keg to annoy and make them give up.. Which they often do..

When I got my boy with me it's a different matter, he plays a lot of arena and is happy to board, spawnkill and guard holes while I fix/cannon and stay out of broadside so we have a fairly good success rate against any ship type. There are a lot of good crews out there though.. You soon know when you're up against one.

Sailing duo sloop is amazing though when you been soloing for a while! I can see how a really good duo can be a match for anything out there.

  • Back when my crew grinded forts we won every single one, never had a loss of a fort. I know that sounds unbelievable but its true. We just had a really good vibe and PvP'd well. We were really in sync with one another and wouldn't even have to tell each other the next move we just knew. Sometimes we would have 2- 3 ships we would have to fight off. Thats not to say though we wernt sunk. We were indeed sunk on occasions but we stocked back up headed back over and ended up getting the fort treasure(I consider winning a fort cashing in). So for me even though we were sunk while doing forts we still technically won.

We never looked for a fight so any fights outside of forts were us defending our self. You lose some you win some, sometimes you dont have enough supplies or what not or just an off night or just players who are more skilled. Not sure the ratio but hey we all sink! Anyone who says they do not are most likely not being honest.

Right now though I do not PvP rarely ever so not much news to report on the PvP front.

  • @cotu42
I feel it, its a matter of perspective.
my point i just find it hard to label a retreat as a win.
Maybe in his percent he didn't count it as win, but im coming at it more like
"you miss 100% of the shots you dont take -Wayne Gretzky" - Michael Scott

I say in another comment im not try to attack these people more suggesting since they brought up running away in their comments that i would be interested in a Win/Lose/Run breakdown

Lol really not trying to be a jerk, you certainly didn't say the word retreat. you just said the definition of the word retreat.

retreat - withdraw from enemy forces as a result of their superior power or after a defeat.

This is just an amusing thread and i dont mean to pick on you it just as @Mathemoto said:
