Naval Seige Arena Mode!

  • I feel as though this arena game mode would be very popular. I certainly would play many sessions of this...

    Naval Seige.

    A new island uncovered in the shroud exclusively for this arena match.

    A lone castle on a small island, decked with cannons, choke points and an underground cave system.

    The server is split into 2 teams.
    Attackers and defenders.

    Attackers Spawn far away from castle in a fleet and sail towards the castle. Enough time for the defenders to prepare and have a pre-match huddle.

    Attackers have infinite ships meaning they will respawn as usual but in the starting position they spawned in. (So death is still punishing for them)

    The attackers must reach the castle, and fire at the walls and defenders manning cannons on the parapets to breach it. (Firing yourself out of a cannon into the castle won't work)

    Once breached the defenders can enter the main courtyard. Their aim is to set off a megakeg in the underground cavern below the castle... Which causes the castle to crumble and collapse ending the game and scoring a win for the attackers. It will be a gruelling fight and a game of tug and war. Through many choke points, twists and turns. Spawn management will need to be looked at to ensure optimum balance.

    Some defenders spawn in the castle barracks. There are several buildings they can spawn in upon death but they will be strategically placed away from choke points and places near the megakeg.

    The rest of the defenders spawn in ships which only have 1 life. So once sunk, they sunk. The aim of the defending fleet is to attack the attackers, delaying them and harassing them as much as possible.
    Once the fleet is defeated they spawn on the castle as regular defenders do.

    Their objective is to hold out until time is over to score a win.

    They can gradually repair broken walls but it is very slow meaning they can only really achieve a full repair if there is no interruption. So these areas will need to be cleared of attackers (or the repairer protected from attack) Multiple repairers will not speed this up meaning the remainder will need to focus on defending.

    After the timer is ended or the megakeg is lit a winner is declared.

    Next game if you were an attacker you will join defenders and vise-versa. Or perhaps can vote on which you wanna be and have some sort of balancing thing play its part in background.

    Eitherway...its better than fighting over chests for 15 minutes.

  • @daringclarky Def would play something like this. Team based arena is what this game needs anyway since farming cannonball shots on enemy ships is just way too easy. Better to force a team of ships to work together so farming shots will only accomplish so much.

    I like attack and defense as a concept since you can balance this very well with the number of ships, especially if cannonballs fired from ships could set fire to the castle, disable / destroy towers and gates, and if players could be fired up onto the walls. Something like 3 attacking ships worth of players and 2 defending ships + a few players to defend from castle walls.

    The main issue is still the number of players / ships per server and Rare's ability and willingness to code in the ability to fill vacant spots.

    It would also require Rare to create something specifically for Arena which, let's face it, was just a last ditch effort to attract streamers to their game. They have failed twice now to excite the community for arena so it's likely that new ideas for arena will never be considered or tried out. It's a shame because the core mechanics are all there, but the ambition to make arena bigger and better just isn't. Adventure is fun because it is a free spirited way to gain rep in many different ways. Arena free-for-all just feels too constrained and lacking of any creativity in combat.

    Plus, besides a temp ban from queuing there isn't much incentive for players to stay in / play their best game if they aren't having fun / losing. They need to fix this before they even start to think about team based modes.

    Totally agree with you.

    Hopefully the fun to be had from this mode would attract players far and wide. Possibly could given the gameplay on offer. Its even something a casual player could hop on for, for a quick 30 minute adventure.

    Kinda reminds me of the old school battlefield 1942 pirate mod or Mount and blade.

  • As a Legendary Sea Dog who has his 240 Arena Wins, and as "Fun" as this would seem in a Fantasy World, This is something the Devs would never put in play...

    Arena has it's own problems already with Server Stability Issues being kicked out of active games, then being penalized thinking you left the game on your own, and Matchmaking issues as it is...Plus the amount of time it would take to even process this..

    If you think Arena 2.0 is bad fighting over 1 Chest for 15 Mins with a Choice of a Sloop or Gally, try getting your Arena Wins on just a Galleon for 25 Minutes with Multiple Maps and Multiple Digs for Chests on top of PvP.

  • Amazing idea, would definetly play it. I find that I’m good at ship combat, but my skills lack in close combat, this would be a great way to practice

    I'm not opting to replace arena.
    Just have a different mode for it.
    Server issues aside, other developers manage it quite well (having multiple players and game modes and such) so there is no reason Rare can't do it.
    Especially when we throw money at it each month for pet cosmetics and such.

    Your wins are irrelevant when it comes to suggesting an idea matey. All it shows is that you like arena. Which is cool congrats mate.

    You can't say for sure the devs would or wouldn't implement this idea either. You simply don't know unless you are in the inner circle of developers at Rare.
    Besides that's not the intention. I don't care if they do or they don't. I'm just posting a suggestion on a suggestions forum buddy.
