tucking

  • this is a half rant, half request. Please can we stop this stupid new "meta" of tucking, it takes no skill and can't be fun for anyone involved. Personally i would say i am a very good PvP player, how am i supposed to protect my loot, if i don't know the enemy is on my ship. Tucking is annoying and toxic. I'm not gunna preach for PvE only servers but please can we stop tucking. I want head on PvP not someone blunderbussing me in the back as i sail away after sinking a galleon in a sloop.

  • Mermaid checking is not hard.

    Get good.

  • @simplelyricc Lol what is your problem with tucking?
Its so easy to counter tucking.

we did, but there is a thing called a rowboat my man also another galleon fighting us

ok how do you counter tuck, doesn't sound possible

  • thing is we won every PvP fight, they were terrible at PvP. We still lost our loot. We were the better players. They just watch Pace and wear stupid black outfits. What skill is there in putting the sleep emote on?

  • @simplelyricc Rare could have banned the players that exploited the name-tag behavior, instead they added new emotes that hide the names so the tucking isn't going anywhere.

You could try to suggest new features that would make tucking less comfortable tho.

not less comfortable, just not a thing. I love fighting for my loot, its what makes the game fun for me, but how can i if they are just hiding. I don't wanna play hide and seek i wanna play pirates

  • all it takes is too check your entire ship if you think someone might be on board hiding, and simply guard the ladders if you hear a mermaid or splashing in the water.

Tucking can be pretty hard if you are trying it on a crew that is paying attention & patrolling the ship once in a while.

And tucking isnt toxic, and has been around for a while now.
It only became populair since Pace got exposure by playing with summit, and they were wearing those outfits aswel.
And then everyone started catching on to it and begun wearing tucc outfits, and you know there rest of the story.

  • People who tuck do not deserve pirate legend, just had a galleon run away from me ( I'm on a sloop) after stealing my stronghold loot. I know it's called sea of thieves but c'mom thief and ****head are different things.

  • @simplelyricc There arent endless hiding spots on the ship, in less then a minute you can scan all the hiding spots and its not like they spawn on your ship guard the ladders.
And it adds options to the game i like it.

how are we supposed to check our ship in a fight with a galleon, and it was on the island not the ship. They are terrible players that we beat in every 1v1 and even sunk once, they just tucked on the island, how does that take skill, doing an emote doesn't take skill.

  • @faceyourdemon in this situation they were hidden around a skull Fort, I agree tucking on a ship is easy to counter.

  • @simplelyricc How were they an issue then if you were fighting a gallion and they were on the island and not on your ship?

I'm geasing you were parked at a skull fort.

Just trying to understand the situation you were in.

  • @cpt-sockmonster soon as we killed the galleon(who also tucked on our ship but we killed them) they just came over with gunpowder barrels and messed us up, we ended up killing them too but the damage was done.

  • Regularly check your ship for tucking pirates.
    Its not hard.

    Hiding is fun.
Being stupid and not checking and then being surprised at a key moment is also quite fun.

Ive been both the victim and perpetrator and i like it very much.
I would not like this to change.
If anything, the game would be less fun.
You’re effectively asking for the removal of content, because you lost to it.

  • @simplelyricc hide and seek is fun especially when you know where they hide and you shout out into the mic "alright ninja man time to come out from behind the chair"

  • I miss the days where people hid in plain sight, desperately hoping no one would notice them. Now everyone wears all black and there are a dozen emotes that let them disappear into the geometry. I’m sure it makes for some entertaining twitch streams but it’s just boring for anyone who actually wants to play without slashing every square inch of their ship every 10 mins.

  • @SimpleLyricc

You claim that they lost, but they still got the treasure despite losing their ship, as they kept crew on the island. Seems to me like this is a standard case of skill being beat by strategy due to overconfidence, based on what you say happened. If you beat them once, you could've probably defeated them again when you came back, as their ship would also be low on resources. Rare does like that people have the ability to do this if they want to, since it's a game of options and this is easily countered if you just look through the possible hiding spots.

  • @simplelyricc

    Well first of all

    tucking --- Hiding

    Just pay more attention!

  • @ultmateragnarok there were 4 of them, the fact we sunk them on a sloop proves their incompetence, but no, they won. Because they watch summit and can press a button? That isn't skill or strategy. Its exploitation if you think about it, you are exploiting a game mechanic(emotes) for an advantage.

how is it removal of content, thats like saying asking for the DG exploit to be removed is asking for "removal of content" if you think about it this is an exploit aswell.

  • @simplelyricc

Waiting to attack rather than simply rushing your ship is strategy enough. They didn't have to use an exploit to hide at a stronghold, there are plenty of places for that. Your ship is the bottleneck, you should've been able to see them coming to it after you didn't kill all of them with their ship. Worst comes to worst, you can jump off and come back to repair after the explosion - two players can bail a sloop with every hole open.

  • Tucking isn't new, and it's not particularly hard to counter. Always listen for mermaids, swimmers and ladder grabs. Check your entire ship occasionally.

I've had one successful stowaway on my ship in 2 years because it was late at night, I was close to logging and I wasn't that diligent in checking below deck. They tried to dump stuff overboard, but I killed them and retrieved it. Props to him for getting on board, but it was my fault for being lazy because I was logging off soon.

wearing all black cause pace told them its good for hiding :D...

  • @simplelyricc tuckers play a risk reward game, they dont have their ship close and thus when they die its mostly over.

They invest the time in strategizing whilst being in a tucked position.

Rare went all in allowing this strategy with the emotes that hides players names.

Getting sunk from being barreled is one thing but letting that barrel get close shows you weren’t aware and thought the danger was gone after sinking said ship.

I cant even count the times i encountered the tucking wannabes that ultimately always fail at least on my ship, we are aware of tuck spots both the ones that exist on each ship and the ones people create with loot piles, it just takes a couple of slices in those spots to find them.

Even funnier is when i realized a tucker was on my ship and let him be during my session just being aware of his position at all time, he wasted a good 3~4 hours on our ship untill we decided we where going to sell and 3 of us walked up to him and blundied him to the ferry.

  • @simplelyricc

If u are fighting enemy crews and it is lets say a galleon than u should remind that it is possible they have 4 crew members. If u sink them u need to kill up to 4 pirates incase they spawn after sink.

Keep count of your enemies. Know who u are fighting. This way u could have thought. Ok galleon sunk with 4 members. We picked of 3 so far. Listen up crew a 4th enemy may be around, keep a keen eye and check the ship.

we did, it was a sloop that was tucking on the island waiting for us to kill the galleon

  • Careful. I might be hiding on that sloop of yours as we speak.

That's a nice villainous skull you've got there...

  • Ambushing someone and taking advantage of them being distracted is a completely legit strategy. Especially if you're not the better pvp crew. You were beat by strategy and you're salty about it. There is more to sinking ships and killing pirates than blunt attacks.

  • I don't tuck, Its a lame strategy, but most Tucker's are easy kills. just be vigilant, don't immediately attack one if u see him. grab food and shoot him before he realizes u see him.

I kill Tucker's all the time, they are kind of a waste of a server slot.

double gun is a strategy, but people complain about it, it can be a strategy, but not be fun. It isn't fun for anyone involved.

You want to stop tucking yes?
So how would that be done? Removing stealth of course.

So probably have gamer tags exposed through the ship or something like that. What you are wanting will remove stealth.

Last i checked, stealth is a feature and a strategy.
    Ergo...removal of content.

    pfft exploit.
The only thing thats being exploited is your play style.
News flash though, its not all about you buddy.

Different players have different play styles.
    One of them is stealth.

Wow look at that, your idea directly conflicts with somebody elses play style and thats why not everybody is happy about it.

    Hmm...

  • @simplelyricc Tucking is not an exploit, even Rare themselves promoted it with new Hiding Emotes.
And you cannot compare an exploit that instakills people, with an emote that hides you.

I understand that you are upset over you're los, and i cannot say you should pay more attention with all the chaos going on. But it is part of the game, and you so happen to be in a [mod edit] situation.
