A new location only accessible when you have all the flames of fate on your ship.
The entrance to the sea of the dead is under the sea dog tavern (The centre of the map right where the lightning strikes signalling new players.)
Sailing under this takes you and your crew to the Sea of the Dead only when you have all the flames of fate.
To clarify the region of the Sea of the Dead....
It is a seperate world space in its own server populated by other ships also with the flames of fate.
Death is unusual in this region.
You see, the ferry of the damned can be seen sailing in this region (Well a fake one)
Even when out of sight of it you can see its lights from every part of the region (Kinda like a reapers beacon).
The seas are black and falling into them causes you to die.
Dying in the region teleports you to the ferry of the damned thats sailing around the Sea of the Dead.
To return to your ship your crew must sail to the Ferry and harpoon your crewman’s ghost to yoink them over.
Upon doing so they turn from a ghost back to a full bodied living crewman. The ferrymans ship cannot be harmed or boarded but it is peaceful, serving as a platter for players to yoink their crew back and continue adventuring in the strange region.
The idea is that sinking means everybody is stuck on the ferry and the only way to return once everybody is on there, is to go through to door and return to the living.
If you are unlucky enough to die and your crew do not come to save you, you can walk through the door of the living and it will take you to the ship selection screen effectively making you leave your old crew behind. Do this if you feel impatient.
Players cant join your crew once inside this region to stop leaving then joining exploitation.
There are blackened netherwordly islands to explore but be careful not to fall into the black sea.
There is also a very unique way to kill ships....
You see, the flames of fate give your ship the ability to sail the seas and stay afloat. But if a crewman douses the flame, the ship will be swallowed by the sea after 1-2 minutes.
It will begin to grown and rumble, shaking more violently the closer it is to running out of time, eventually nose diving like a skelly ship and joining a free normal server, dousing all the flames returning to default.
Therefore keeping all colours lit is important.
Because each crewmember likely has a coloured light, its important to rescue crew from the ferry otherwise the ship will not have the lights to stay afloat.
There are also a few skeleton galleon ships and a few ghost ships sailing.
Ghost ships are memories. Memories of the dead from the world above. So you will see ghost ships and rowboats etc but they are there purely for atmosphere.
Theres a tall tale exclusively in this region which will draw people in.
Also exclusive loot.
To leave you must find the exit which will return your ship somewhere within the square km of the sea dogs tavern (in a server that has room for you)
To anybody watching a real crew spawn back into the real world, they will see a player ship emerge from the depth like a skeleton galleon does.
I feel really happy about this idea.
It wont be for everyone and there may be some limitations but in a way its like a new twist, like an arena game mode within adventure. An area which should have relatively decent traffic because of the loot and voyages.
Its also a decent place to create more lore for who the ferryman is, why the region exists and what happens to those who the door no longer opens to.
