Smuggling...

  • I am a Smuggler.

I do not like pvp (personally, it triggers a negative physical response so I avoid it as much as I can). I like digging up X's, Riddles and trying to deliver pirate pizza.

    Cater to me.

Smuggler voyages. I'm given a target, Item, crate (whatever) to deliver. I need to be sneaky and avoid confrontation and being seen.

    .
I pick up x and deliver to y. My reward is reduced based on being seen (EoR and Spyglass), Being identified (EoR, Spyglass and Naked eye) or being fired upon after identification and being within 3/4 cannon range.
Rewards reduced or enhanced by the previous criteria and mileage. Obvs if I can sail from Sailors Bounty to Ancient Spire is a bigger reward than from Cannon Cove to Sanctuary.

This along with current Merchant timing requirements would be neato.

Due to the range at which ships can be seen from, these voyages would be nearly impossible to complete perfectly. Perhaps making it a bit less extreme in range could have it work better. People don't instantly know you as a smuggler upon sighting your sails on the horizon, but if they got to and picked up your cargo, it wouldn't be good for your reputation. Avoiding fights, rather than sightings, is what would be best for a smuggler, as there are crews who would see you and let you pass. It needs to get from A to B quickly and with little interference, not to be a stealth mission in open sea.

Exactly! I'm not a details gal but that's the general idea. Value goes up if there's more ships on a server, goes down if someone gets close. You could even go to an Outpost and "report" the Smuggler based on cosmetics they're using to confirm that you saw them. Multiple choice, so you could feasibly guess, but have some sort of penalty for false reports.

Probably be quite a pickle to program tho 😅

  • You may be on to something, I'm not 100% convinced by your idea though.

I wonder if rare has any plans for the east India trading company

  • This is a solid idea. What I’m thinking could happen is you have to smuggle certain cargo from one place to another similar to the existing cargo runs. The difference here is that the cargo can be looted for a lot of gold by anyone. This means if you happen to get raided by another crew, they can steal the goods for instant gold (but no rep) and the smuggling run fails. The raiders would not have the delivery instructions so they cannot turn it in on someone else’s behalf.

Deliver the goods successfully and you’ll get double the gold you would for looting it, plus rep with that trading company.

  • YASSSS!!!

like I said, not a details gal, but this could get some traction.

The whole proximity thing is tricky. The rag and bones was a nice easy mode intro. It gave you way too much time to deliver...
A smaller success window that could be expanded by following a delivery route that shows on your map, (and maybe others if you're flying the Reaper's Mark) bonus for delivering unseen, bonus for delivering during or after combat?

C'mon pirates help me fill in the blanks lol

  • What if........... You smuggled NPC's? Not just any NPC ofcourse but NPC's that skelly ships want D E A D dead! Pick them up around the map like the Hermits Cave at Smugglers and deliver them to their destination. You'll have to give them food should you get in a battle to keep them alive. They'll sit on the bed or near the brig on a sloop.

  • @pithyrumble

I love this idea 😁 sounds so much more interesting then catching pigs lol I hope it gains traction! They need to add a ninja themed cosmetic that you can wear while your sneaking around ha ha

  • @dag-13ernit
What about... IN the brig? Safest place is behind bars eh? Ha ha

  • @gundy-the-shark

Crate of gems maybe? Fits with the stuff in game already!

You get a huge bonus for smuggling it and turning it in but if someone steals it then it's worth a lot to the vendor of your choosing 😱

  • @tubiansayne The brig works! The target is disguised as a prisoner. She/He can take damage.

  • At first when reading this i thought i would be another "someone killed me so i came here to whine about a pirate game" But then reading further I actually really liked the suggestion, this would be cool! I hope this could also be something for the hunters' call as that needs more right now. Every faction has some way of turning in chest/crate to get rewards other than hunters call, so some sort of chest/crate would be a nice addition

  • we need different types of missions, this is a great idea.

  • Like the idea, but hard to code imho
Maybe the only way to be that sneaky is to not get spottet with a Spyglas for more than 5 Minutes.

I would love to be able to smuggle goods into an outpost but also have npcs who work the docks, being able to potentially stop and search me and arrest me if i was caught.
