DLCs + Bug Fixing updates

  • Ahoy!

I hope everyone is having a blast with the Fort of the Damned as much as I am. I couldn't be more thankful for this amazing DLC.

Every update comes with its new features in addition to bugs, which is typical and expected in every game build. But I wonder, why are Bug fixing updates ignored in Sea of Thieves? Not including Hotfixes, since they usually don't work well.

I am an indie game developer, and if you are too, you would know that the worst thing to do is to fix bugs and add features at the same time. For example, Sinking barrels, it has returned for the 4th time now, which explains that bug fixes during DLCs are not the most excellent idea.

    Suggestion:

Since DLCs are almost 4 weeks apart, why can't Rare add a bug fixing focused update every 2 weeks in between? There's plenty of time in between DLCs to patch the game and fix issues.

Being a content creator, I engage with a large number of players, so I get my own share of feedback and player behavior, the amount of players that rage quit and never come back is higher than players that are excited about a new update. So, in theory, this is a decline.

I play SoT every day for many hours, it has consumed my life, but I would love regular patch fixing updates between DLCs. The content is amazing, but with the recurring bugs, it's not being presented in its true glory.

  • @phuzzybond

Sinking barrels is a feature, though. They sink when you get close sometimes, because they seem to have a maximum amount of contact time with players before sinking which occasionally makes them sink once you approach. A lot of bugs, like the green skeleton glitch or the long-distance LODs being up close, are very hard to fix as well, as I'm sure you know. Some bugs really should have been fixed by now, though. Though, a lot of people complained when Rare released regular unscheduled bug fixes, since it requires shutting down the servers often.

  • @ultmateragnarok True mate, as for barrels, they should de-spawn if maximum amount of interactions have reached, it helps server performance, as for the bug fixes, it can be once every two weeks on a scheduled Wednesday. just like the DLCs. I remember it used to be like this back in the day. It gives you the feeling that 90% of the staff is on new features and content, the rest is for bug fixing.

  • I don't understand why we're no longer getting bug fixes. The old Bilge Rat Adventures would come out and then a week later have a bug fix.

  • Bumping this thread again, that was posted before fire was added.

In a natural state of development, bug fixing comes before adding features, like you know, you fix your walls, and paint the room, before you bring in your furniture.

Rare, please, bring back Patch DLCs, fighting players next to fire causes lag and teleport allover the place, along with a bunch of other returning and new bugs. this is by far one of the most unstable of updates. I would really appreciate one of the Rare devs to reply and just answer this simple question, why no Patch updates?

I would really appreciate logical reasoning for this.

    thank you

  • Sea of thieves has a lot of bugs that never gets fixed. This is a great idea to put them on the right track to fixing stuff.
