Suggestion: Achievement Buyout System

  • I’d like to propose an idea that could improve the in-game economy and give players more flexibility. The idea is to allow players to complete certain achievements by paying a large amount of gold — for example, starting from 1,000,000 gold or more, depending on the difficulty of the achievement.

Why this would benefit the game:

    1. Gold sink for players
Many players accumulate huge amounts of gold with nothing meaningful to spend it on. Allowing players to “buy out” unwanted achievements would be an effective way to remove excess gold from the economy.

    2. Increased interest in events
With players spending gold on achievement buyouts, they would be more motivated to participate in events, voyages, and other activities to replenish their gold reserves.

    Additional thoughts:

This system wouldn’t replace normal achievement completion — the price could be high enough to make the decision meaningful.

The feature could be limited to non-essential or cosmetic achievements, avoiding negative impact on gameplay progression.

It would give completion-focused players an alternative option for achievements they find uninteresting or excessively time-consuming.

Tell me something... are you one of those people who also bought their diploma before getting a job? Assuming you have or had a job.

Just curious. Asking for a friend, if it works. 😂

I don't have any of the HG curses, even though I think they're ok looking, simply cuz I can't be bothered to earn them in the current system that I find super tedious. Yet you will never find a post of me asking for the grind to be nerfed.

Why? Cuz that's my problem, and cuz other people earned them fair and square before me.

So nope. Earn it. If you don't wanna earn it - then you don't really need it.

  • With a large amount of players with over BILLIONS of gold...this wont really fix and just make achievement hunting pay to win :P

Honestly, it feels like there are no better ideas than the ones the developers already have. It seems like player suggestions rarely get considered, and as a result, the game keeps adding repetitive achievements and events.

It’s a shame because there are plenty of creative ways to make the game more engaging, like introducing flexible systems for achievements or alternative event mechanics. Listening to player ideas could really refresh the experience, but right now, it feels like those opportunities are being overlooked.

True, some players have billions of gold, and this system wouldn’t magically fix the economy overnight 😅.

The idea isn’t to make achievements pay-to-win, but rather to give an optional alternative for those who already have a lot of gold and don’t care about certain achievements.

Plus, introducing a gold sink — even if small amounts are spent by millions of players — could gradually help balance the economy, while keeping achievement hunting optional and meaningful.

Right now, though, the developers don’t seem to make any effort to find ways for players to spend those billions of gold. Instead, they just keep adding more quests and grindy tasks, which only increases repetitive content and doesn’t solve the excess gold problem.

Ok, with that I can reason. That's a fair take. However, at the same time I cannot justify the initially proposed idea for the mentioned reasons.

Since I touched upon HG, they've recently stated they'll be revising HG, and we'll see what they'll do with it.

Regarding all of the other achievements - the biggest problem remains. There are a lot of veteran players who've had it even harder than it is now. As the prime example, PL achievement is laughably easy nowadays compared to as before.

And I can definitely understand anyone being against making same/old achievements easier. Especially harder ones. But especially being straight up purchasable with gold. Even Rare isn't that crazy enough to go with that. The backlash would be insane, and they're already in the trenches the last couple of seasons.

  • Using Gold so you don't have to play the game?

A big Bugs Bunny projected onto the Moon saying 'No'

  • @reapex5780 The issue with economy balance isn't rich players, the gold in your account is meaningless outside of your account, there is no real economy that can be influenced or is necessary to play the game. The issue is with events that give too much gold. On the last Ashen mega stash event I made 5.5mn gold in a single day just sailing to mega stashes. You make 100k gold minimum off of a smugglers shipwreck. The current mega stashes are worth over 150k gold. Ashen Mega stashes without any emissary are worth over 400k gold, and over a million with a grade 5 reapers or athena. Last month they had an event you could do in less than 20 minutes that gave 175k gold. There is a note on your mast that lets you make 50k gold every 20 or so minutes. Go to lost gold fort, in the fort there is a list of the top 10 gold earners in the entire MONTHS LONG beta. I have had individual days where I earned more than most of that list combined. Back then, a captains chest (worth like 1000 gold) was basically the best thing you could get. It took some individuals 3 months to do what I can do now in 3 hours. That's why the gold economy is broken.
