Bananas in PVP

  • Am I the only one who dislikes how good bananas are at the moment and feels they are not healthy? I'll tell you what I mean and some ideas to improve it, let me know what you think.

At the moment bananas heal around half your health in no time at all and each player can hold 5. I feel like the reason no one bothers using pistols or eyes of reach are that even if you hit someone they can just eat a banana and all the damage is healed and now you need to reload and are down a shot. Not to mention you lack the close quarter kill power of the blunderbuss because you're carrying a ranged weapon. All too often in fights hitting shots on enemies feels meaningless as they can just break line of sight and heal back up to full (or sometimes just heal up in front of your face). It makes me feel like the only way to kill someone is by getting close to them. They have as many bananas as we have shots and we have to reload after every shot so assuming we hit every shot (which won't happen) we cannot kill anyone from range with any degree of consistency. Even when I get a near-fatal shot with my blunderbuss players can sprint away and heal to full while I chase them.

Some possible solutions would be to nerf the healing, but it's annoying enough as it is to collect bananas so I don't like that. I think just making them take longer to eat or forcing you to stand still while eating could be good solutions. I could see how using a bunch of time to heal could be a good punishment for getting tagged by a ranged shot. Let me know if you think bananas are a problem and any solutions you have or if you think they're fine as is.

  • Actually I find bananas pretty balanced. It takes 4 bananas to fully heal from null health but 3 to get back to a formidable state. Each banana takes a second so it's 3 seconds of vulnerability. For me, my weapon choices are Pistol and sword. All you have to do is knock them back with a pistol shot and charge at them with the sword, or vice versa. The combo takes time to practice but it's incredibly powerful when mastered. Trust me, bananas are fine as of right now. It's bullet spread on the blunder and damage value on the sniper they need to change now, which is what they're currently doing.

  • Bananas are fine. Equipping 2 pistols is a risk though if you can't kill them before ammo runs out.

  • @xyspacetatoryx idk, I guess I feel like the problem is if you don't 1shot someone with a combo they can just heal to full super quickly. Which means if you don't 1shot someone they can get away like nothing happened a decent amount of the time. I think that was a contributing factor to why the blunder was overpowered, its ability to reliably 1shot people. I don't even think being able to 1shot people from point blank is a bad thing, just that it was the only reliable option. Just my opinion though.

  • @flaxxseed I get that but you've gotta remember that weapons in every game have a purpose. The shotgun is meant to one shot, you can't use it to hit someone from far away like you can with the sniper. It's got ups and downs, that's what make weapons balanced. Regarding of people thinking if a weapon is overpowered when it's simply doing it's job is asinine to an entire post about it. I mean half the fun of the game is finding different ways to use weapons and make them useful yourself, good games don't hand you a gun and say "Here ya go, this'll do all the work for ya!" Make yourself feel good about the combo, trust me, it's worth. :^)

  • It's because they haven't designed other food sources, or methods of healing. It all goes back to content being a thousand miles wide, but only an inch deep.
