[Game Idea] Parley!

  • So during the scale test I met some pirates who eventually I bumped into 4 or 5 times in one play through. They had commandeered my ship after killing me twice and eventually we came to an agreement that I would allow them to borrow my one my sloop, to hold their treasure until their four man Galleon (which I had somehow sunk on my own through sheer luck) returned to our location to retrieve the treasure and the crew. After that, every time I bumped into them I was still somewhat nervous of being shot and robbed of my hard earned treasure. But they were friendly to me and wished me luck on all occasions. This gave me an idea.

    Parley!

    The idea is that in a menu similar to you're crew menu, where you can vote to lock a crew mate in the brig etc. There could be a vote to parley with another crew. But what would that entail you might ask. It's simple. The crews that invoke and agree upon a parley, can't kill each other. Yes they can still sink your ship, and could steal your treasure as any other time. But do you really want to have to go back to the ferry of the damned each time?

    Now obviously this isn't without risk. You could parley and the other crew could steal your treasure and you can't kill them to make them drop it, which is why you'd only be advised to parley under confident circumstances. But to avoid this matter slightly, the act of a parley can be broken instantly, unlike the imprisoning of a crew mate where you have to wait a certain amount of time to release them. Parleys should be as quickly revoked as they are to evoke in the first place. To help avoid those untrustworthy scallywags that wish to parley only to backstab you and steal from under your noses.

    Edit: As mentioned in a comment below this would also help with boss battles to avoid accidental deaths if you're more concerned about concentrating fire on a boss and wanting to help gain that massive share of loot.

  • How is it we have the same idea threads all pop up at the same time every day? Some are literally two line below a thread saying the same thing lol.

  • @misterdoomed I'll be honest I began writing it, got halfway through and was thinking "surely someone has thought of this and I should have read earlier posts" but I also think that with multiple posts the devs are more likely to consider cos we will all describe the process differently and some in more detail so I think it'll be taken into consideration and all ideas will be gathered to find a compromise of them all :)

  • @n8cst I have no quarrels with the pvp element. I fought a few ships in the stress test. I love it. But when events such as the kraken come into play I think there needs to be an element to bring crews together to bring it down and share in the glory because they've stated that one crew alone won't be able to kill the kraken without help necessarily.

    It'll be hard enough to survive the attack let alone kill the beast. So if the time comes I think it'd be best to avoid accidently killing those trying to help you.

    Plus the devs wanted to give a "full pirate experience" and I think parleys are a big part of that. It's not to avoid pvp, more so to bring a factor of having a fleet of ships rather than just one ship. For bigger teams who want to all share in an experience and have larger pvp and pve battles.

  • @i-cyberwolf-i In some of the videos they've stated that boss drops are going to drop a significant amount of loot, too much for 1 crew to take. There's your answer, swoop in, get some swag and [mod edit] while you still can.

    Simple...Some folks believe they say it better than the guy two lines up did. Again here is the MEGA-THREAD

    Does everyone believe that rare is not aware of all of this? Does anyone think they have not discussed this in studio meetings? Do you all not think they have ideas and possible solutions in mind? Do you (the royal you, not anyone in particular) honestly believe they are ignoring the player base? I promise you, NO ONE wants this game to succeed more than the developers do!

    There are constructive, positive conversations going on in the forums (ship tactics, people helping each other with technical issues, fan creations, guild recruitments, etc.) All getting buried under a heaping pile of "PVE vs. PVP" Safe Space, I cancelled my preorder, and my personal favorite genre...what rare can do to make this game succeed advice to the developers thread from an armchair game developer. It is all narcissism. Use the Mega Threads people...quit cluttering an otherwise enjoyable forum with the same nonsense over and over again.
