Molten Sands Sink Spawn Point.

  • I'm not entirely sure on the rules here, but I went to show a friend of mine the new Molten Sands content last night. Unfortunately, the boat ended up sinking after I got one-shot by a falling volcanic rock while trying to bucket the first rock that hit (The volcano really had it out for me I guess, it was basically back to back hits). I told my friend to keep going with the Fort, and hitch the mermaid to get our ship back.

It spawned me allllll the way over at Salty Sands in Shores of Plenty. I'm not sure if my reading of the map was correct, but this was roughly 18 nautical miles away(?), basically on the other side of the map. Luckily my friend pulled out clutch and managed to stay alive the entire time, but the sail back was absolutely brutal and I felt miserable the whole time.

Part of me understands this as a necessary buffer to allow other people to steal/intercept or, assuming you're the aggressor, give the defenders time to breath. But wow. For it being a Fort we activated, and the sink being from the volcano, that respawn feels bitter. Does anyone have any knowledge on how spawn distances are determined?

Side note: Every time I've done Molten Sands so far it's been uncontested. Am I just lucky, or do people really not find it worth it?

Yup. Nobody wants to fight over it if your gonna
    A) Spawn far away
    B) Forced off the server if sunk to many times
    C) Just not worth it after completing all commendations.

So that huge spawn distance is on purpose, yeah? Does it follow some sort of logic that you know of?

  • Yeah to be honest, I've only seen maybe 3 active Molton Sands forts so far. I've done quite a number of them, not a single player has come over to contest us.

  • @xdreegan

Well. You be surprised people often complain that when sunk that other players down spawn far enough away.
So maybe it been tweaked but now. Nobody likes spawning away from Stuff. It a strange thing.

Either you aren’t spawning close enough or your spawning not far enough. Nobody is happy

Sometimes the game absolutely decides you’re done having fun and yeets your ship to the opposite side of the map. Volcano sinks are especially brutal because you didn’t lose a fight, you just got unlucky. Back-to-back rocks happen, and there’s basically nothing you can do once the island chooses violence.

From what I’ve seen, respawn distance isn’t really about why you sank. The game just looks for a “safe” spawn that isn’t near active players or events, and sometimes that means Shores of Plenty for no good reason. Fort ownership doesn’t really protect you there, which sucks, but it’s consistent with how the system’s always worked. Fair? Not really. Predictable? Also no.

As for Molten Sands being uncontested, you’re not imagining it. A lot of crews just don’t want to deal with volcano RNG, especially now that there are easier ways to make gold without having the island try to delete you every 30 seconds. High risk, mid annoyance, and not everyone’s into that. You either get lucky, or you get bullied by rocks.

So yeah, brutal spawn, not a bug, just classic Rare moment. Your friend clutching it is honestly the real win here.

  • @shadowfox327533 Appreciate you actually answering. Thanks.

    Us?
What are you sailing? Brig or Galleon?
That may be why you are not getting contested if so. Duo Sloop?

Always makes me laugh when folk bemoan a lack of contest in the event when I have had multiple events taken off me as solo.

I started off solo, decided to do one. After I did it, I went to sell. Nobody came. So I started another, and invited a friend to join me to make it go faster. We were able to complete it twice without anyone coming over. We sold, I got tired, logged out for the night. Three nights ago we had a FotD up. Instead of that, we (on a brig) decided to chase this galleon-crewed Burning Blade all over the map, another ship joined in the fun, and the BB kept trying to sail out far, then speed back to Reapers to lower. Didn't work out that way for them. They got sunk, we split up the loot with the other ship, all were happy and we parted ways. The FotD was still up, so we decided to go over and do it. Not a single ship came over to us either.

According to XBox, I have just under 500 days played. In all that time, I've never seen the Shrouded Ghost, yet I've seen new players have the title and ask me, "Wait, is it rare or something?" Everything and anything happens in this game.
