Day 1, and now uninstalling

  • I understand the aspect of pvp in the game as I at one time did indulge in it, but I’ve gotten to where I’m just trying to sail and relax after work and don’t enjoy ruining other players experiences. There needs to be a serious sit down about pve/pvp servers and about how the game targets you after you’ve done no pvp while looting or atleast a passive mode like a lot of other games have. I’m done with the game entirely after today and will be uninstalling it. There’s no reason why an entire server should be on 1 reaper galleon murdering anyone else who enters the lobby. It’s impossible to win against a crew of 8+ while slooping solo. I’ve been playing since day one and your player base has continuously gotten more and more toxic, especially towards the new players and younger players. This game can be amazing when you’re allowed to actually make progress and learn it. If I’m alone in a server leave me alone, don’t force me into a new one. If I’m not pvping leave me alone don’t force me into a new server with 3 reapers roaming the ocean. now it’s every other event or deed is promoting sinking players. Reapers Bones was the worse faction that could’ve been added to the game imo. Piracy was already a thing, all this did was create incentive to ruin every other players experience. New or old. This game has pushed more and more towards creating toxic players than it has towards improving player life. I’d happily pay for a private server like on fallout 76 if it meant me being able to actually progress within the game and enjoy playing the game like I use to.

  • This isn’t feedback. :(

It’s a complaint from a day 1 player. Not even giving it a month trial period to fully understand and learn the game.

It’s impossible to win against a crew of 8+ while slooping solo

For starters. No ship is 8 players. That alone tells me you don’t know what is going on. Second, solo sloop. Of course it’s difficult! Your alone on the open sea with other unknown factors of players.

Give it a month. Not a single day before you judge poorly

  • @burnbacon I think you may have misunderstood. The way I read it they haven't played the game for one day and then decided to uninstall it. They say they have played the game since it was released and now they are uninstalling it because the PvP mechanics of the game have changed so drastically that the game is no longer enjoyable to play. That's what I believe was meant.

  • Just another person that bought the game with zero research, and complains about PvP in a pirate game.

    And PvPing is not toxic!
If you encounter dumb players throwing slurs are you. Report them.

  • @cpt-sockmonster Again, I believe you misread. They said they have played the game since day 1 (as in its release) but feel it's changed so much as to now actively promote destroying everyone else's ships in the server that they feel it is no longer an enjoyable game to play.

  • @gebr1l Another person complaining about PvP and wanting some sort of PvE server?
    I don't think i did.

I get his frustration with PvP, but calling it toxic like all the others, just is hardly true. And if he does encounter them, he should record & report them.

  • @cpt-sockmonster I'm not talking about their issue with the game specifically. I more meant your comments that they bought the game and should have done more research, and someone else commented that they should give the game at least a month and not just a day before making judgements like this one. I was just pointing out that they have actually owned and played the game since day 1 so they don't need to do research as they have owned and played it long enough to see any changes they think have occurred and bring them up for discussion.

  • @gebr1l Looking at his achievements, he def doesn't look like a new player. [Mod on edit]

  • @waronpants2664 Be careful with the language you use to describe your fellow community members. I have removed the remark you made.

  • @waronpants2664 the whole feedback system seems oddly flawed to be honest. I have spent the past day on here as I raised some issues/queries myself. I have also been reading others posts in the forum too and one thing I have noticed is a common theme is that the same people (I know because I see their usernames repeatedly on different people's queries and my own) negatively comment and barrage any posts aimed at making changes to PvP in the game. This then leads to majority of the thread being negative (which has come from all of the people commenting) due to the people who are so quick to defend everything about every aspect of PvP. I then noticed that a lot of these posts have then also since been edited by a Rare employee saying that their query incites negative behaviour so it has then been locked.

So basically if you have something you don't agree with on here, negatively barrage the query with comments because the Rare employees or moderstors won't do anything about the people adding the comments, instead they just lock the person's post entirely, which then causes it to lose traction as people can no longer comment on it and essentially just kills people's feedback/queries/concerns. I'm just surprised how Rare staff don't notice this trend and that it's literally the same people and usernames over and over again that add the negativity to people's posts in general, and this is because they know if they do it enough Rare will just stop someone's feedback dead in the water then and it progresses no further. Seems like a poor system and no wonder a bunch of changes probably don't come to the game when all it takes is negative people to continually comment until Rare essentially remove it from being interacted with and end the discussion on the topics.

That is why i dont play.
Too many sweats exploiting and cheating.
S'hopping, animations cancels and the FoV cheat is too much for me.
Also the community is either PvE or PvP only not many mixed PvEvP Players only salty PvE only and no challenge or sweaty trashtalking PvP what exploit and cheat and make you lose therefore. But even if you win against them its not fun because then they got extra salty and try to threaten you.

Not fun, thanks Rare falling for numbers and money instead for good gameplay, good PvP and good sportmanship.

  • @stundorn you know player encounter are rare in themselves and I see a lot of people who have played the game for like 1 day, say they hate it, and yet go through the effort to sign up to the forums just to whine about it. If you played for 1 day and don't like it, then go play a different game and stop focusing on how much you hate this

Thats the people here who play it all down.

Exploitusing is Skill Not Bad sportmanship
Cheats Like 120 FoV is Not a big Problem
    Animation cancels are fine.
Serverhopping is OK, when the game needs the randomness and uncertainty about almost everything to work properly.
But the Gamer culture is not playing, its gaming the system and feel proud about pixels and playing 10+ hours a day everyday.

Rare had the chance to have a great game and a great community.
They have decided other way imho.

  • @alphawolf123905 I'm sorry but I don't see how long someone has played the game is the deciding factor on whether they can sign up to a feedback forum. Whether someone has played for 1 day or 1 year they are still entitled to enter forums and offer their feedback/opinions on the game. That's kind of the whole point of forums, so that people who have played the game have a space where they can raise concerns, issues, bugs, feedback or simply the experience they faced in the game. There's no point in making a complaint to Rare about it because they just email you back basically saying "we have forums, why not use them for this specific issue" so why is it not fine for someone to use a forum just because their opinion differs from yours? It's supposed to raise a discussion, not a dismissal.

  • All I can say about this is to try not to make yourself too much of an appealing target by not raising an emissary and staying away from World Events if you are wanting a quiet experience, keeping an eye on the horizon and on the map for Reapers and other players in general also helps. You will get attacked from time to time no matter what you do, so getting a crew will help, but if you do take a loose just try to think of it as a learning experience and maybe you'll do better next time.

  • @stundorn said in Day 1, and now uninstalling:

Rare had the Chance to have a great Game and a great Community.

People aren't often compatible but that doesn't poison a community.

People of all types with all play styles in a pve/pvp enviornment aren't the problem.

People that don't like the game that stick around to poison the well with negative opinions over and over and over are the problem with the community.

Constructive criticism should be respected but that's not what the loudest do. They exaggerate and manipulate the dialogue because to them it's no longer about the game it's about the hobby of being negative towards their target.

  • @wolfmanbush Goes both ways bucko. People who defend this game and rare from any criticism get extremely toxic as well. They also get pref treatment from mods which increases tensions further.

Edit: the main problem in my estimations is Rares horrible communication(which is better than it was at the start tbf). They refuse to clarify or communicate intent and just leave the community to fight among themselves when all it would take is one statement.

  • I totally understand the feeling on this one. I too sometimes like to jump on a casual sail around the seas and maybe get some coin in the process. Some days its fine and some days you run into sweat lords all day long. When I first started I even had ships chase/sink/chase me again on the same server even though there was nothing for them to gain. Now at least I can put up a fight or even turn the tables on crews like that. The sad truth for newbies or casual folks is that there is no sanctuary once you join the seas. The game is designed to favor the experienced pvp crew over anything else.

  • While we understand your intention is to leave feedback and explain your reasons for leaving, this type of post draws negative reaction, and does not foster discussion in the community.
