Sanctuary at Ports of Call

  • I love this game, but there is one thing that makes me not want to play. After spending some time out on the open seas, collecting treasures and rewards, there is NOTHING more frustrating that stopping at an Outpost and getting attacked by another group. Then, as one person continually kills you upon spawning, the other steals all your bounty, and for good measure, sinks your ship just to prove that a Galleon can indeed destroy a Sloop.

A player ought to be safe to unload their loot, sell it, and restock without having to worry about another ship threatening to take your stuff. The Port of Call should not allow a ship to attack another ship while it is docked or within the boundaries of the Port.

Out on the open seas, it's all fair game, but the game should have a defense mechanism built in for those seeking refuge.

  • Loot is not yours until it is turned in.
Rare looked into making outposts safe during devopment. They felt it didnt fit with this game. There is no safe places, unless you make them safe.

If outposts were safe zones they would be abused. Players would camp the safe line and you would never get to turn in.

Keep an eye on your surroundings and sail away with your loot if you have to.

But dont take my word on this. Look into the old dev vids and hear it from Rare in their own words

  • @rpgreg
Yeah, its a no from me too. It would be just as frustrating for pvpers to stalk you for hours, just to have you run to a safe zone. Another tip is to sell whenever possible. This way, you won't lose as much if you sink.

  • @blazedrake100 Well, I have zero effs to give about PVPers. As another person posted, "Isn't that why the Arena was created?" @NWO-Azcrack It would be a whole lot easier to get past a barricade of ships than to try to Sell one item at a time, defend your ship, get killed over and over, etc. If I'm in a Sloop, how exactly do I make an area safe? If I sail away from a Galleon, I'm going to be overrun.

  • @rpgreg
The arena was created for a condensed, stream able version of sea of thieves. It's actually more pve than pvp. Also, if you don't care about pvpers, why should they care about you? The suggestions we made were just us trying to help you.

  • @rpgreg
Sail into the wind to get away from a galleon. They will never catch you. I sink galleons all day on my duo sloop. Each ship has its advantages over the others.

You say you give zero effs about pvpers?
You are the one who bought a shared open world pvpve game. Prolly should have done a little research.

Rare is never going to make outpost safe. Like i said, dont take my word for it. Go watch the old dev vids and see for urself

  • This game is called Sea of Thieves for a reason until you press the sell button at the trader everything you have on your ship and everyone elses ship is fair game. If you think that a sloop is outmatched. Go to LFGs and find a good crew to roll with that will help secure your loot.

  • @nwo-azcrack I don't mind them out on the open sea, but for a bunch of dbags to roll up while you are in Port is a coward move. Yes, there are ways to avoid it, but it seems that there should be an ounce of protection for ALL Players.

  • @rpgreg
Learn how to do sail bys.
Grab your most worth it piece of loot, sail close enough to jump off and swim over, turn in your loot and mermaid back.
    Rinse and repeat lol.

  • How do you set it up so your loot can't be picked up by other crews while at said safe outpost? Sure you can't be killed, but you can't even try to defend your loot with PvP disabled outposts.

  • One of the things that keeps bringing me back to SoT is the adrenaline rush I get whenever I have loot and I see another ship. The reason I get that rush is precicely because nowhere is safe. If they introduced safe zones as you suggest, that would kill the thrill.

SoT can't afford to kill any more thrill, imo.

  • @rpgreg
I agree its a coward move. I dont do it.
But there should be no safe zones. Any and all pvp can be avoided if u keep a good look out.

  • @nwo-azcrack
The strategy in of itself, isn't really that effective. Except in certain scenarios, its not worth the effort and really easy to counter. My crew and I fell for an outpost ambush once, never again. A lesson was learned that day. I will never call people outsmarting me cowards, I just face the reality of the situation and admit to being outplayed.

    @RPGreg
Their is a dead giveaway for island campers, just look for the mermaid. No mermaid means no people present. Its easier learning the signs of an ambush rather than asking Rare to fix a non-problem easily countered with a little spacial awareness.

  • Thank you all for your input.

  • @rpgreg wow fella, you got into dark waters with this thread...

Let's make outpost a safe zone... So no one could steal any longer, cause as soon as someone'd see a ship around, they will fly to the OP...

But sorry to say, thieves always get new and interesting ways to steal loot. They would ambush you while on an island, or surround the outpost to make sure you won't pass.

Besides, they could grab your loot, and... since there's no way to kill them, they would ended turning a big part of your booty in your face.

So... deal with it, learn how to act in these situations. Admit you will lose sometime. You can always rob someone else :p

Camping in the OP is for cowards? Umm... Might be... Fun? A lot!!
