Please give jumping a cooldown...

  • People jumping so much is cheap, and it's making the game not enjoyable. With how much sword and gun fighting in the game, the game is slowly becoming unfun, which is a downer because I really like it, until people jump around.

My suggestion is allowing people to jump 3 times, before having a cooldown. That way people can still jump to dodge, but it's not constant. It's ridiculous and makes the game not fun.

    Please

  • @spartanmatt0x You know what would be absolutely and utterly trash? Having a stupid jump cooldown that keeps making you not able to jump on other people ship or anywhere at all

  • This forum also needs a search functon. I remember seeing this exact same request yesterday.

  • How inconsiderate of people to jump and dodge attacks instead of standing still for others to shoot them!

    Damn pesky moving targets!

  • @bloodybil Can you tell me who to believe? Now it's jumping that's to blame, I've read many times about hitboxes being too lare and missing is impossible.

How about removing combat alltogether. That would solve everything!

  • Their seems to a faction so against bunny-hopping, they are crusading to remove it. All this is, is being a hard target to hit. If crouching or going prone was an option in the game, they would just use that to avoid getting hit. Bunny-hopping is a common feature in Shooters, while not all, this is quite embraced by some of the fastest paced shooters to hit the market. Its quite easily counterable, it just takes adjustments like any other game.

Adapting is much easier then Rare having to rework features in a game.

We should settle all fights with dance offs.

  • Please, remove the ability to run, it's so annoying to see pirates running everyday. NO ONE actualy NO ONE in the world run 24h/24h.

  • @nabberwar exactly, imagine playing quake 2 wihout bunny hopping or rocket jumping.

  • @spartanmatt0x Oh my... another one of THESE threads. First of all, adding a cool down would completely ruin the atmosphere of the game. Imagine if you were say trying to jump a gap between cliffs, only to realize your jump was on cool down. You would literally fall to your death. There is also the fact that adding a cool down would make jumping tedious. I could only imagine having to stop every THREE jumps, that’s an abysmally small amount. Second of all, jumping during PvP encounters is something that is present in almost all games. It’s not a new, exclusive tactic to Sea of Thieves, there are hundreds of PVP games (such as Overwatch and CS:GO) that allow bunny hopping. If they don’t have a problem with it I don’t see why RARE should. People need to stop looking to developers for PVP balance and start practicing. The more you fight, the better you will get, there is no magic update that will fix your problems in PVP.

  • And why not blank shoot instand of real bullets? This way, i couldn't die from pvp

  • @exeternautical I think this is the first time I've agreed with something you've said.

  • @spartanmatt0x Here's the solution to all your problems. When people jump, they are now in a set path; you can't easily change directions when you are in the air. Wait for someone to jump, and it's an easy shot if you can learn to look for these types of things. I'm sorry but this post screams, "I'm bad at PvP and instead of trying to get better I'm going to complain about how this game is so unbalanced and the devs need to fix it!"

  • @hynieth that pesky gold earning and ranking system ought to go too. Doubloons? No thanks. Cosmetics? Throw ‘em out the window. Gamertags? We should all have the same GT, “Bob”. Just one big pesky Bob sailing towards... get rid of those darn islands already!

  • Other games have jump abuse penalties, why not here.

  • A rule of threes would be in-line with the sword mechanics. I can't for the life of me imagine jumping more than three times in quick succession, be it while traversing an isle or having a respectable duel.

Let me ask: When would a triple-jump penalty negatively affect you (anyone) and what is the most specific case you can imagine? I'm obviously out of the loop here, so fill me in!

  • @xxcaptmichaelxx
Other games embrace bunny-hopping without penalties, we seem to be at an impasse. Maybe this is just one of those games.

  • I'm not a fan of jumping players, but neither am I a fan of limiting it - staying mobile is key to combat success, which is why people do it. Blocking certainly doesn't work anymore...

    Avoiding skeletons
    Avoiding powderkegs
    Avoiding pirates
    Jumping around islands
    Jumping around on my boat
    Jumping around on others boats
Jumping on others people's dead bodies
Jumping for help when the kraken strikes

    To name a few...

  • Im all for a change, all these smart a responses like the combat bunny hopping or not is worth defending? Have you guys used a cutlass lately? The guns are ok but that is unarguably in a terrible unfun sticky bunny hoppy garbage place and to mock this guy is kinda pathetic lol..

Maybe make Jumping with weapons out work like a smaller sword evade and then when you sprint you jump normal again? This keeps mobility unhampered but makes sword fights less vertically bunny hoppy and more strategic imo.

So from the sound of it, and feel free to prove me wrong, jumping is preferred over running by some. I understand some of your points are in jest, but boats have stair cases and I've never needed to jump over more than one rock to escape a powder skelly. All these can be done in less than three jumps without consequence.

Again, I don't want to sound argumentative, but jumping works great avoiding gunfire, sword attacks, etc; but after you've dodged one attack it's a good idea to either run for cover or return fire.

I'd like to give both sides the benefit of the doubt, as the length of cooldown and frequency of jumping required to trigger it haven't been discussed. I haven't taken a side yet, but I'd be grateful if both could be both polite and critical.

  • @hisdarkestfear meh... I will agree that unlimited jumping is not a necessary mechanic. However, I would argue that fatigue is far more unnecessary.

It's a pointless limitation that would only slow gameplay, for the sake of those who feel that others jumping is the reason they die. It's just a lame excuse for losing.

Blame the mechanics instead of their poor use of them.

  • For sake of argument let’s say a change was implemented. I’d go with small hops that are half the normal jump height only when a weapon is drawn.

    Just my thoughts

  • @lordsupocrypha don't remove jumps, silly, just have a cooldown so people can't spam jump

  • @bloodybil they could perhaps just run around. Spamming jump and attack is a cheap tactic

  • @nabberwar what other games?

  • This is the second post I see that you @SpartanMatt0x requesting silly things. First this and then the sword lunge...

How many hours have you played this game dude? You don't need to answer, I know you have less than 20 hours. You don't need to request changes to things that are BASIC in this game. This game has not powerups, perks or something like that because only the skill will determine the result of the combat. You just need to get better in this game, the devs don't need to remove or change anything

  • @spartanmatt0x
Some of the fastest paced shooters to hit the market have had zero jump cooldown. Unreal tournament, TF2, Quake, any Counter Strike game to just name the fast paced ones. However, Overwatch has no jump cool down as well as Fortnite and Sea of Thieves respectively.

Maybe its just a PC thing, but the amount of people who complain about bunny-hopping in PC gaming is quite small. We just got used to it and adapted. What comes up must come down. Shoot where they land, its quite easy to do.

  • Agreed but when Optional cross-play comes turn it off. Xbox players don't naturally bunny hop as much

You want them to run straight at you or is running in zig-zags allowed?
