Help low FPS

  • Hello,
I recently install SOT and my pc really struggles to get 30 fps. I have to be full CURSED to get 15 - 25 fps (sea - earth)...
Accounting to Rare's declaration, I think I could get 30 or 60 fps (Rare graphics 1080p) with my setup ?

    W10, i5-6300HQ, GTX 950M, 8GB RAM

I tried a lot of settings which didn't work (Vsync off, lots of NVIDIA settings...), I don't know what to do anymore
    Thx in advance

  • @enyalipsa try cleaning all your files out that are old out of your pc and then restart it, the main reasons is you should probably get an Ethernet cable or upgrade your GPU and graphics card also, I run on gtx 1060 and I get a solid 80 frames on full legendary, but that’s just because of the graphics card...

  • Hey man - sadly I have to tell you that the minimum requierment for 30fps@1080p@medium settings (however even low will not work good) is way higher than your computer can perform.
Main problem is you are on a laptop and the gpu needed for this (1050TI) is actually arround 130% faster than your gpu is. (thats alot)
The CPU is also slightly (30%) below minimum requierments.

You shoud be able to run it at 30fps with low settings on 720p. Or you need to get a new machine.

    Sry.

Cleaning wont help since machine is way to weak for what he wants to do.
He cant upgrade GPU cause he uses a mobile plattform.
Ethernet cable will not higher fps - it will prevent lag spikes - thats all.

  • Thanks for answers @HolySchick05 @Kazmor

It seems that I can sometimes play 20-30/40 fps (in fact 25-30 fps the first half-hour and then 15-20)
I tried cleaning my pc but I'm not sure that's related. I can't try with ethernet because it never works when I need it.
I'll continue playing this way, I bought this pc only 3 years ago.

  • @enyalipsa woops
While the performance in general isnt great - and it wont get better unless you get better hardware (or you scale down to 720p - wich is the better thing to do if you ask me) - you maybe get rid of the drops after the first half-hour. This is defently related to downclocking your cpu/gpu based on heat wich is common on laptops.
However, you need to look at the problem while playing. And look at tempreature and stuff to identify the problem (most likly cpu/gpu) and then somehow fix it. Maybe you can set the fan speed higher - so your computer will get louder but you will get rid of the low performance. External cooler might be a try aswell - usually works surprisingly well.
If you need assistence in finding out about the problem you can open a chat with me. Can tell you exactly what to do. Forum only will take ages for short question and repeat.

I think you're right, I always find my pc very warm when I'm playing (not only SOT - I plug the pc in to AC power when i'm playing) and I always notice a drop of performances. I hesitated to buy a notebook cooler some months ago but I didn't do it. I'm going to try to see if I can act on the fan's speed.
I'll come back if I have questions about this. Thanks a lot for this track.

My boyfriend also has a GTX1060 (and i7-6700HQ) and he turns 50fps max. He believes it isn't maximized and tries to find a solution (he thinks he could get 80fps).

  • @enyalipsa
Problem is you both use mobile devices wich are weaker then the PC counterparts cause in such a little case you allways have to deal with heat - therefore the stuffs clocks lower.
So you cant compare your boyfriends gtx1060 to the one holyshick05 uses. Cause usually the PC versions are not underclocked out of the box, they are overclocked at that.
So its not underclocked vs. normal we see here - its underclocked vs. overclocked (in the case of the 1060 massivly sometimes).
You can tell your friend that windowed/borderless/full-screen has no relevant performance impact anymore, so thats not his problem. It was like this some years ago but even there oyu wont reach a 30fps difference. Its very minor usually.

I ordered an external cooler yesterday. I hope it will change something.
CPU's and GPU's temperature playing SOT (plugged) without it : 90°C (195°F) (both).

As for my boyfriend, his pc is overclocked, compatible VR and can run GTA5 60fps (MSI GE72VR). He found the issue and now he got 60fps in Mythical on SOT.

  • @enyalipsa
Yeah 90C is to high - specally for the GPU. CPU's and GPU's are save to operate up to 100-105C - however it will shut down then.
Usually a Intel cpu wont downclock at 90C in a desktop - might still happen on a laptop. The GPU will defently downclock - Nvidia gpu's usually downclock to hold temperature in the range of 84-92C. Thats probably what happens to you.

Yeah 60fps seems to be reasonable for a 1060 on a mobile plattform - I was more wondering about the expected 80fps. Thats hella difference.

    Greetings.

  • @enyalipsa 80 C ? Thats like 360 Farenheight

  • @HolySchick05

I don't know, I used the google converter
