Shrouded Ghost Spawn rate

    We need much better chances of seeing The Shrouded Ghost. Although I appreciate their attempts at making this a truly rare sighting and battle, there comes a time when it’s a little TOO rare (I’m not kidding I’ve been playing this game for over 6 straight weeks....

    Wow! Six straight weeks!?!?! Rolls on deck laughing

    But we shouldn’t have to play for several weeks to wait for a creature to spawn

    Why not? Why not months? or years?

    And you played 3000hrs?
    That's ~60% including nighttime (24h/d).
    So you spent every day 60% of the whole time including night playing SoT?

    The spawnrate of the Shrouded Ghost and the Mysterious Box of Secrets is just fine!
    Having something ultra rare is what makes the title special.

    People who play to complete only are anyway taking a limited aproach playing the game.
    There is much more than just to complete and grind off commendations etc.

    Six straight weeks. I have ADHD and Sea of Thieves provides a lot of dopamine for me, that and I really love playing the game.

    Shouldn’t wait so long because then there comes a point where people won’t try anymore and they too will be annoyed with the extremely small spawn rate. Like the only reason I’m not giving up is again, dopamine, but also that I just want to be able to experience that fascinating creature with my best friend.

    I just wanted to say:

    Did you read Moby Di(c)k? The book would have been pretty lame if Achab found it as quickly as you wish to. And since this entity is based on good ol' Moby... Don't expect to find it like a japanese hunter would find a blue whale... THOUGH, I would be ok to find it more often ONLY if they make it a lot stronger... like, hard to kill and powerful enough to sink a galeon if the players are not as good as what it would take to deafeat it.

    I think it should remain just as rare as it is now. Mythical rarity for this beast is much more fun.

  • @surveyorpete Its not like you worked for the shrouded ghost spawn. You just sailed and sailed and it happened to spawn. I know people who downloaded the game 3 days before killing the shrouded ghost and I know people who have played every day since the update and still not seen a single one.

    It doesn't make you 'experienced' or 'good' or anything other than lucky. The only thing it gives you is a check mark on the shrouded spoils and a bit of athena rep for the first one.

    Is that a problem? If it wasnt so rare, there wouldn't be the same excitement over one, or the mystery and theories for summoning it. I do think the Pl comm shouldn't require 5 though, like I've said before.

  • @dislex-fx Its not about easy... you're missing the point. The shrouded ghost isn't hard. In fact, if it attacked more like they added in the update it would be more fun.

    Its about the fact that you can play 500000000000000000000000 hours and never see one

  • For those who doubt, as I once did, I played with a random through LFG about a week ago, dude said he'd killed it, I called him on it, so he put on the title. Wouldn't have believed if I hadn't seen it myself.

    Playing a game!

    If you dont see that, you aren't playing but working something off to compensate.
    And i don't tell people how or what, i only say its a limited aproach.
    They unlearned to play and therefore do only work it off.
    Winning, loosing, progressing...
    is all part of games, i'd say even important part of games, but it's not the main cause we play or should focus on.
    The main cause is having fun, relax, distraction and a social experience etc...
    But some cannot let go, fun and relaxation is seconded not to mention beeing social :P, but to perform is more important.
    They compensate and perform to show they are good, because it's not enough in RL for whatever reason and because we all live in a performance focussed society. higher, faster , further, optimize yourself, perform, get better or you arent worth anything, right?!
    Again do whatever you want i dont tell you anything i say its a limited aproach, focussed on the wrong end.
    Therefore people want constantly to shift the game, complain over and over and want more this, more that, change this, change that.
    As if they cant let go.
    Game doesn't suite you, why complaining, just leave it's just a game like Ludo or Monopoly.
    Game is not enough?
    Or has not enough content (after 500 hours playing in a few month) or is repetetive?
    Every game is repetetive!
    The difference is, if it's a fun gameloop you like to do it and call it playing a game and if you dont like to do it you call it repetetive grind.

    If you lack to immerse and not having fun digging treasure up although you are PLA10 you just dont like the gameloop.

    If people do not immerse and slightly roleplay their Pirate, they are barely playing, but work it off.
    That's all and thats a limited aproach imho.
    Like playing D&D without any fantasy RP story for your character. I called them the exel warriors back in my P&Per days.
    The one were roleplaying, the other were only calculating everything to make everything efficient and start to game the system.
    That is a limited aproach if you want to find fun within playing games, because games are meant to be played and not systems meant to be "gamed" or performed at.
    There are for sure e-Sport games to perform only!
    And every developer know that and push you to perform in their games. Make you compensate is a good way to make you addicted ^^ and keep you as a customer.
    SoT is not that much into it, because of their horizonal progression, its more for playing around in the sandbox.
    Progress and performing is still part of the game.
    I dont say its not needed. But its seconded!
    If you focus on playing and progression and performing is seconed then you have fun with this game.
    If you focus on performing and progressing you want to shift the game all day and complain for whatever, because the aproach of working of and performing all day needs endless progression to satisfy completionists.
    I mean completion has an end, playing has no end.
    If a copletionist is finished, he does what? Complain for the lack of content and ask for more. Thats unsatisfiable like someone craving (compensating).

    It's sad how majority of gamers arent players playing for fun, immersion and relaxing, but are gamers gaming systems to progress, complete and bragg with their effort they put into a game and spread elitism (compensation again) to grow their ePeens.

    But it is funny that i as a casual gamer who doesnt take it that serious and play only a fractiojj of time and manly for fun has all this already uncovered and completed while people exagerating and playing an unhealthy or lets say at least questionable amount of time every day have not :)

    And please dont become jealous over pixels and start talking it's unfair.
    I would fall from my chair laughing.
    It's random, not unfair.
    Randomness is always good for playing, it's of course not good to perform.
    But thats the difference some play a game others abuse it to perform and push their ego.

    I did read the book. Achab found the white whale and died by it. Obviously, I don’t plan to die by the shrouded ghost but he found the white whale because he put the effort into it.

    I feel the spawn rate should increase with the number of megs you killed. For example, someone who killed 50 hungering ones should find it easier than someone who only killed it once. If you killed the other 4 sharks 50 times, you should be able to find the shrouded ghost

  • There is good marketing behind this, Shrouded Ghost became a Meme in the SoT community and is causing widespread free promotion for the game on social media platforms. Same as Ruby Splashtails. There is none of Shrouded Ghost, gets everyone upset, also way too many Ruby Splashtails, still gets everyone upset. It's a trend, and I think it is fun, even tho I never got Shrouded Ghost yet... or ever

    As for the SG Meg, I'm fine with either decision. It will either continue to be hard to get and remain mythical or be slightly improved (which, BTW, it already has at least once) and more likely to show up.

    I don't know what the odds are of it showing up, but I have yet to see it myself - and I play every day. So, I imagine it's really low. Think of it this way - if you have a 1% chance of encountering it, then that's 1 out of 100 megs. Have you encountered and/or killed 100 megs yet? And if that's increased, let's say doubled, then it's only 2%, or 1 out of every 50 megs. Big difference there.

    This is something that has to be considered very, very carefully by the devs. I wish them the best of luck in this endeavor.

  • The rarity of it is why I continue to check each time I hear a meg approach instead of racing for the nearest island. If I ever do see it, I'm going to make sure I turn on recording and invite everyone who I know who plays it to jump on quickly to get a crack at it. It needs to stay rare and special.

  • they shouldn't make the spawn rate too high but they should maybe fix the commendation, nobody will ever kill it 50 times

  • I agree the spawn rate is way too low, if it spawns at all. Have never seen it. My mates and I did find a Box of Wondrous Secrets once, but have yet to spot this very cryptic sea creature. Like you said there is a five time commendation for taking it down. Would be nice do it at least once after sailing all the time many of us have.

    Yes 5 is too many. Once would be very appropriate. Still needs to be seen and encountered though.

    Unfortunately Rare’s answer to keep people sailing is to repeat everything a ridiculous number of times.

  • @fast-bike94 have you thought of the fact that most players spend about 60% to 75% on or near land and megs don't spawn near land think bout that!

    That doesn't make it harder it just takes longer + this redistributes the luck part.
    Well over 100 cannonballs (let's say 120, 3 times the amount you start with) isn't hard to stock up but at the same time it's very easy fast to use them up. Kraken, Players, skelly ships, other Megs

    "Look the Shrouded Ghost!"
    "Just sail away, we only have a full stack of cannonballs"

    Doesn't sound like fun.

    now i say make it harder by making it bite more circle faster bigger ship damage would keep everyone on their toes abit more to keep the ship stocked n save alot of these boring same old posted about it not being spawned enough
