I've looked around (not particularly throughout though) and I've found no complains about the forsaken ashes set's visuals at night.
My friend and I are both experiencing the same issue with it: not a bug, on the contrary, visuals work perfectly as intended. If you look into a bright light source at night, it obscures the vision for a short while after looking back to the dark. This happens to be true with the aforementioned Forsaken Ashes tools & weapons (and sometimes gloves). Whenever I pick up a glowy-red item, it continuously obscures the vision. So yea, use a different weapon, sure. But I love the Forsaken Ashes set, and I intent to use it for a good while for sure, but whenever there's a risk of a fight - be it skellies, monsters or players - I immediately need to switch the weapons and tools (bucket and telescope in particular), for if I don't, my screen is going to black out, whenever I pick either of them up.
