Automatic Custom Ship on Start

  • I'd like to suggest that we retain our custom ship cosmetics between sessions.

Of course this would only apply if you are the initiator of session with a new ship at dock.

It's not like it takes a long time to reset your ship. I just think it would be a nice touch and remove a bit of the boring parts of starting a session.

    Again, small thing, but nice.

ALSO: This could be a treat associated with high rep levels too.

ALSO: Maybe allow legends to change their ships at sea.

  • The only time I really mind entering the game with "plain jane" ship cosmetics is on the rare occasion when I spawn on a deserted island rather than an outpost. It doesn't happen often, but when it does I'm forced to captain a boring ship until I can get to an outpost. Otherwise, I really don't mind the moment it takes to change my ship.

  • @genuine-heather I do. Most of the time I forget it. At least give me the option to change these things on my ship, not only at the shipwright.

  • @x1-two This happens to me too, especially when I don't have a lot of game time and I'm trying to squeeze in a quick, solo voyage. Then you're stuck out there with a plain "come get the noob" ship.

  • that's why they need to add the customization at the model ship in the captains quarters

  • Aye, just spawning with a default setting sounds like a fine shanty to my ears.
Changing the ship away from the Shipwright doesn't feel right. I rather have the options to name my ship, as far as persistence goes.

  • @lt-swag-johnson Agreed, changing out at sea just seems wrong. Naming ships and adding a few more cosmetic items would be cool:

OoS ships have skulls and weapons lying around
GH ships have empty chests and shovels
    MA has crates and nets

Honestly though, my wife and I choose a different hull, sail, and outfit almost every time we play. So a default setting wouldn't really add much for us anyways. It is a cool thought though.

  • @fenderbendur Since I haven't reached the point of ship customization yet, I assumed it was already as the OP suggested. I'm shocked it's not implemented that way. Must be something to do with the game and how it manages sessions, but this seems like a feature that should already be in game.

  • Sails should be able to be changed at sea like the flag. Hull paint at the shipright still. And let us change the flag at the base of the mast instead of the crows nest please.

  • @m1sterpunch Having the flag box at the base of the mast would create the same issue that they had with the bell, much frustration when climbing the ladder in a hurry was the intended action.

  • @m1sterpunch How can you hoist a flag from all the way down there?

Have you ever climbed to the top of a flag pole to raise a flag? You know there is an invention that's called a pulley right?

Put the bell on the bow on a small post next to the bowsprit and not on the mast. There is a bell in the crows nest already so having another at the bottom next to the ladder is silly when anyone on the lookout on deck is probably at the bow.

  • @m1sterpunch Harsh. No need for the 'tude. I was just commenting on the anatomy of the ships. It just wouldn't make sense for a tiny flag like that to be hoisted from the deck. It would get in the way of the main sails.

not trying to cause an argument, it was just an observation.

  • @fenderbendur It came out more snarky than I intended for sure and I'm sorry. It's just that when you raise a flag it's from the base of the pole so having it at the deck is just common sense to me. And it's a pain to go to the crows nest at spawn or to try and change it while approaching another ship to show your intent (honourable or otherwise)

  • @m1sterpunch Agreed, and apology accepted! Running up to change the flag is a bit of a pain, but not everything should be so quick and easy. When I play solo I just fly the banana flag, but with a crew I usually have people all over the ship, so it seems natural to have a scout up there who can spot ships and then change flags accordingly. I guess we'll see what happens!

  • @fenderbendur Might fix things if they add a gunboat. A boat with one sail (catboat or dinghy) that has one cannon that swivels all around and a sail the can be raised and angled from one control. Seems OP maybe but also an open deck so a hit from enemy cannons will most likely kill you or throw you off making repairing impossible and not having anywhere to hide (you or your loot)

I think this would be a great addition for solo players as this small boat would be easier to hide when questing too.

I like this idea! We're getting the three man brig soon. A one man catboat would be awesome. One that you could actually take the mast down on and pull ashore. One small, swivel cannon. Fastest in a crosswind. All about hiding and evading. This would really add balanced depth to the game.

  • @captain-arcanic Thanks, maybe I'll draw a sketch up and put it in it's own thread. I've fantasized about this boat for awhile.

  • I'd love for there to be a chest with the player customization on the ship for your ship as well.

  • @danomite07 Then put it on the other side of the mast

Yes mate, all of the above!
