I just got into a scenario in which I was stuck in between a cluster of trees. Normally the game auto ports you back to your ship when it registers you have no ability to move. But I was able to slightly jump (more like hop), and as such the game did not port me out. I had a ship full of treasure so logging out was not an option. I managed to get out eventually but here are some tips I found while looking up how to get out of places like this. I gathered them all here in case someone else needs help getting out so they don't have to scour the entire internet as I did.
Tip 1: Dying: Obviously the most prudent solution. If you can kill yourself you can respawn on the ship. Unfortunately I could not find a suicide act in Sea of Thieves like ctrl+K. So the only way for you to die is to let something kill you. Hopefully skeletons or snakes. So when you're getting hacked or shot don't try to kill your attacker. Let it kill you. Then respawn and restart.
Tip 2: Sword lunging. Sword lunging is an attack used in Sea of Thieves. If your sword is equipped you can hold the attack button to charge up a lung attack that propels you forward. In some cases this will lunge you out of your current predicament.
Tip 3: Getting drunk. Yes you read correctly, and this is exactly how I got out of my little jam. Go into your inventory wheel, find your tankard, and c**g it all down. Your character will become inebriated, and wander himself out of trouble. In my case I combined tips 2 and 3 to escape, but I'm sure one or the other would've been good enough.
Those are all the solutions I found to answer my problem. But if all else fails you can simply go into your menu screen, and change the crew settings to "open". Then wait for a random to join your crew, and ask him to go cash your treasures in for you. Most people will be happy to take half your gold for little to no work. And half of something is better than the nothing you would have if you logged out just to get out of your jam.
