The Recent Rare Dev Video

  • And I quote

"2 man sloop is a good stepping stone to move up to the Galleon"

Listen... The devs are trying their best to be nice about it... Subtly telling you, that they mean for you to play as a Crew... Please stop all the

I want this single player game and easy mode for the love of god.

  • @jdge439 I mean the game even says it when you select solo sloup, what more do they have to say to get the point across

  • Imma huge battlefield fan from the oldones.. 1942 and 2.. and the sloop only players remind me of the renegade Snipers off on the side of a hill.. who think they are doing something other than getting a random artillery barrage on their position. you arent a sniper, you are supposed to be marking enemies at a distance so the TEAM knows where they are.

You do have a job to do and its not lie around waiting on someone to come into view.

Sloop crews, much the same, have a contract with someone, and their job is to complete it. But they must realize... that its harder to do with only 1-2 people and potentially dangerous.

  • Simply put, you can choose to hop in a ship that has sails, anchors, hull damage, navigating, steering, buckets of water, pig feeding and scouting for danger all by yourself. That said you MUST be aware there are ships 4 times your size in both Hull and Crew all on headset looking for trouble.

I solo Sloop a lot, when I get killed, I move on. Hard to be upset when your already agreeing to such a risky play style and had the option for a full crew.

  • L**o, wow.. This is too good. A dose of reality to the forums I hope.

  • yeah they cant get more clear in that video

"you have to be careful where you park"

"you have to be looking out for sails on the hroizon"

    "Shared world experience"

"Multiplayer is a core part of that experience"

They are tryiong so hard not to bash their heads into a desk while every other thread is PVE HURR DURRR

  • I swear... if I e'er hear a dev say pirates just need to git gud I may need to burn me console...

  • There is a reason small fish don't swim alone in the ocean... Swim alone and become someone's lunch.

I for one love solo slooping because I enjoy pestering galleons. If I manage to kill 2+ I call it a win and end up loling in the ferry of the damned =)

  • @largestgordon thats fantastic.. And its great to enjoy it like you do. But you seem to honestly understand the risk of it and you didnt come here to complain that 4 v 1 is unfair...

How could anyone complain that point with any leverage. That is what gets me about the constant complaints on this forum. Bringing a knife to a gun fight when you had the option for the latter is your choice right?

  • @xxxrookxxx exactly, if you arent taking it as a challenge you are doing it wrong.

You should be thinking " Im gonna go out there and beat the odds"

Not "the devs should make it easier for me"

  • Well. Even devs themself say thing play out different then they originaly intended.
Either in how people do things or use game mechanics in totaly different ways then intended.

Fact is that there is a huge mass of players that love the game playing Solo. with the risks it involves.
    Why should they be ignored?
Devs themself say thet they watch the comunity closely to see what the players want in the future.
There is no reason why not full crews share the seas with solo players on the same terms in the future.
I dont mind Solo slooping being hardcore..as long as they dont make it impossible to be able to lvl up du to the quest balance when it comes to length and power of skellies ;)

  • @gloog it will not. Even now there are more pve only threads popping up.

It's getting old. We get it, you don't like other players. This has other players.... move on.

Listen.. guys. The game you are all looking for is called

The legend of Zelda.. Wind Waker

  • I wouldn't mind if multiplayer with randoms was less haphazard or toxic.

  • @largestgordon Haha me too, I was on my own yesterday and waited for a galleon of three to turn in the treasure. I have the video on my profile, unfortunately it doesn’t show the 3rd kill but yes I won hahaha you just have to be sneaky when solo playing and use rocks and manoeuvrability to your advantage .

  • @mmountain use the sea of thieves discord.. off 10,000 players looking for like minded crew members

  • Why do they keep showing flags near the crow's nest and different sails if we can't use them yet?

  • It seems like there's an awful lot to read between the lines in this video. I got the sense that they may be backtracking on the 4 person sloop idea.

They went to such great lengths to talk about the reasoning behind crafting the sloop as a one or two person experience. Coupled with Joe's talk about having a reason for bringing in new ship types it seems like they may be aiming for a mid-sized ship option.

I could see something like: Sloop: 1-2; New Ship: 2-4; Galleon: 4-6

  • “It’s better to play with other people, but I don’t mean that mechanically. It makes sense in the world,” he said. “If I have a bigger group, I can control a bigger ship. I can man more cannons. I can repair at the same time that someone is on the wheel. You’re gonna be a little bit more limited when you’re on your own, but not because we’re limiting players.”

Instead, Rare wants to empower people who play together with a different experience that is more complex and rewarding because you can do more when working in unison.

    Cite.. https://venturebeat.com/2016/06/14/sea-of-thieves-lets-you-captain-your-pirate-ship-solo-but-at-a-cost/

Theyve been saying this for 2 + years guys, get with the program.

  • the youtube comments toxicity is mad ...

  • @largestgordon I agree with you, I too am a fan of the solo sloop, I pick on galleons that bully other sloops, taking down a galleon with a sloop is much more rewarding than blowing sloops away with a galleon.

  • @m4dkraut Aint gonna lie, a few of the toxic people are mad at me for pointing this out to them

  • @hf-infeman the logic is actually pretty simple. Who has the most fun at the arcade?? you + 3 friends shooting at 1 helpless target, or you alone shooting at 4 targets? it's far more challenging and engaging to solo =)

  • @vipeness said in The Recent Rare Dev Video:

"That's only 20% of the final ship"

  • In all honesty, for those of us who enjoy what rare gave us, their intentions and envisions of what this would be, it's important for those of us who enjoy what it is, to say so.

Rare is getting yelled at every other thread about how to change the game into a pve 1 player experience. But the silent majority are enjoying the game.

  • @jdge439 Don't worry to much about the yelling and screaming on the forums, people that are unhappy are just voicing their opinion about how the game should be, as they are allowed to. It is pretty annoying to see constant "change X or I'll leave the game" threads though.

These forums aren't a great representation of the community though since it only contains a small percentage of players. Within these players you have mostly two sides, the ones that want/demand change and the ones that want to know more about it and help grow the game. The majority however is probably the third kind of people, the players that just play and enjoy the game, but don't even know these forums exist.

I'm sure Rare employees can filter these forums just as well as most people have learned to do by now. Good suggestions, stories and content seem to stick around a lot longer than the complaints though. Apart from that, Rare knows people love their game because they can actually see the number of players playing it.

  • @Greaseman85 did they delete the game yet and remake it?

  • @fishst1ck I really hope so. I really enjoy the game the way it is. I love the fact that I gotta stay on the ship and be a look out. I love the fact that we almost got sunk because I took a quick break to use the bathroom and that just happened to be when a galleon rolled up.

I love the hunt, the looking to see what ships are doing. not just going after empty boats. ?ya know cuz Pirate.

I enjoy the tense battles and the reward from them.

I even enjoy stealing every last cannon ball from a sloop cuz, chances are, we are gonna need them.

    It very fun.

Toxicity in its self it mad, think about it.

People play, there mad, they comment, there mad, they continue to play.....madness!

  • I don't see why people would want a singleplayer mode. The game doesn't have enough content for it, but at the same time sailing solo in the sea is the most relaxing and enjoyable thing ever... 'til you have to start feeling paranoid and worried about every ship you spot.

That's what Rare really needs to address is the encounter rate and consider some actual consequences for aggressors and/or incentive to not just have a fight/flight response to other pirate ships on the sea. If they could add some real threats out at sea beyond just player ships, then there would be more reason to not always engage in combat with other players and perhaps help each other out.

As I've been saying recently, PvP isn't a problem in and of itself, it's player behavior around PvP that becomes a problem.

The legend of Zelda.. Wind Waker

    That's not available on Xbox.

  • The gist here is that Rare is telling the customer how they have to play their game vs. the customer having a legitimate choice on how they WANT to play their game.

That sort of backwards thinking worked really well in the 80's and 90's. It became decidedly less a good business decision in the 2000's. Today, it's downright archaic thinking. Video games in 2018 basically REQUIRE the ability for the customer to decide how they are going to - effectively - play the game, to give them options. Especially when you have basically created an open world sandbox of sorts. Hey, it's "their" game - they have every right to pull a Henry Ford and say you can have your ship in any color you want so long as it's brown. Just like it's the public's right to tell them they're free to go bankrupt because the company isn't aware of the real world and how it works. This studio's ship is sinking, and they're going to be completely oblivious as to why it is it's happening, because they stubbornly refuse to listen to the majority of their customers.

  • @satandotcom that so dumb,

Im not playing mario odyssey until It has open world pvp and nintendo is stupid for not letting me have that.

Im not play COD until the put pilotable choppers in the game....

Its like they said 2 years ago what the game was.. I hate having to dig stuff up more than once for people who wont read it anyway but.....

Sea of Thieves lead designer Mike Chapman explained:
“The goal for us was to create a rich pirate world,” he said. “When you look at the cinematic trailer and see all the familiar pirate tropes, your mind kinda fills with the possible quests. For us, we want to allow people to be the pirate they want to be. If you want to be the solitary pirate who sales around on a small, one-man ship, we want to allow you to do that.”

At the same time, Rare isn’t going to fudge things to help a single-person vessel take on a larger opponent.

“It’s better to play with other people, but I don’t mean that mechanically. It makes sense in the world,” he said. “If I have a bigger group, I can control a bigger ship. I can man more cannons. I can repair at the same time that someone is on the wheel. You’re gonna be a little bit more limited when you’re on your own, but not because we’re limiting players.”

They want you to use the sloop to learn the mechanics and move on. You are the one upset at them, Im just pointing out that they are trying to point out they arent bending their game because people dont wanna play the way it was designed to be played.

I can only assume ou are a millennial.. Cuz this right here... "I want it my way and I deserve it my way and whoever created it and sold it to me as such was wrong", Mentality is exactly why everyone gets mad about yall...

    that and avocado toast..
