REVIEWS - SEA OF THIEVES

  • Everyone is a CRITIC.

But let me tell you all that this game while it is bare bones right now and does only offer a lot of repetition will grow and grow as needed. What Rare has accomplished is amazing, the sea and boat mechanics are a lot of fun and more and more content will come.

This is a true PvP'rs game, it's not for the faint at heart. There are no 'tea parties' here, it's all WAR and MONEY. It's an incredible experience. The player vs player encounters make for a new experience each time... so wait til there is more content!

  • I can say, I do love the PvP in this game. I love The Division-style Dark Zone being omnipresent in the world; it feels like the Dark Zone done right.

My main gripe on the PvP aspect is that ships are often rare to find and even more rare to find a separate ship to one that you do find.

Other than that, I thoroughly enjoy the PvP; I just wish it was more common.

  • @jjblackhat I tried to throw a tea party with a crew at a skele fort yesterday. Only wanted to help them out. They tried to sink me! Ungrateful pirates! So I stole the skeleton fort chest while they weren't looking. I'll show you to ignore my tea party invites!

Yea I played The Division in beta, and at release for a while. The Dark Zone was also my favorite, but the game suffered harshly from unbalanced gear.

I agree, which is why I feel like this game did that right. The Division's beta was great due to not having a huge disparity in gear and was god awful in the full game for that reason. Sea of Thieves having no vertical progression makes makes it all work just like the Dark Zone of old.

  • I could not agree more, I'm not gonna argue this game had a rocky start. But I love this game and am excited to see what comes next, I have been more then let down by some fame reviews I have read, it's almost like not one of them gave this game a fair shot.

Yea I really dig that about SoT. I think statistical advantages cause problems, but they could add other advantages to gear other than just cosmetics to give it a little more oomph.

  • It is almost as if the reviewers have been in these forums since the Alpha. The aspects of the game they are praising are the aspects that are praised here. The nuances of the game that are a downer, are the same here as well. I ran across this REVIEW the other day. As much as I love and enjoy this game...I have to wonder where it will be one month from now.

I can't stand that review, because the war between pirate/players is the best part of the game right now.

  • @jjblackhat Whether either of us "like' a review or not really doesn't matter. It is still a bad review. I enjoy the ship battles as well (most of the time). But, the reviewer makes some valid points. The game was literally being sold on the premise of "best online community". This review and many others like it are showing a drastic contrast to that original marketing point. I still enjoy the heck out of this game! But I am also smart enough to realize that there will be changes. We both have been around these forums long enough to know that the community is just about 50/50 split on PvP issues. That's gotta make it rough on Rare to make decisions. Stick with your vision Rare, at this point what do you have to lose?

  • Read a couple of reviews and the messages go from "worst game of the decade" to "best game of the century".
I honestly think that Rare delivered exactly what they promised, nothing more and nothing less.
If you expected to do voyages without being attacked, no trolls whatsoever that keep killing you, or an imense amount of different types of tasks and quests, you haven't been paying attention to the game before launch at all.

I for one enjoy the game as it is right now. Wether I play solo or with friends I enjoyed every minute so far (exept for one time where I got a bit bored of the grind for the merchant alliance, personal opinion though).

That's where you're wrong, kiddo! We may not be in Boston but I'm dumpin all British tea overboard!

Not a kid - 38 years old here partner.

  • @jjblackhat I wasn't actually assuming you're a kid. It's just a saying :)
    EDIT: correction, it's a meme ;)
