I usually play 2 player ships and if we encounter a 4 player ship there is very little we can do. Their speed is just as fast as us so we can't get away. We can't fight them, yes we can hit their ship but they can repair while still attacking us, board as and drive all at the same time. It's just incredibly broken having massively different sized boats matched against each other.
STOP Matching 2 player ships with 4 player ships! It's rediculously unbalanced and unfun!

If you're playing 2-player sloop, you should be taking out 50% of galleons you come across without breaking a sweat. The problem isn't balance. It's your skill level.
This.
Get better.
A good crew on a sloop can be just as devastating as a good crew on a galleon.
Me and my bud ended up winning a war with a galleon crew over a skeleton fort. 2 Hrs later and many sunken ships on both sides, we killed the remnant of their crew that were guarding the key, took it, and started loading up the treasure.
Luckily at the best possible moment, they got held up by our new friend the kraken :)
Thanks for the 10k boys. Next time when a truce is offered dont talk s**t!
Not true. Level 30 with every trading company and have used Sloops and Galleons vigorously with @jajaalex. Countless times we have used a Sloop and took out a 4 man Galleon. You need to fire the cannons in the right spot of a enemy ship.
Carry a powder keg or two on your ship. You can get them really reliably from unmanned forts. If a galleon chases you force them to chase you through a narrow area or around and island and throw a keg over board. If they hit it it will put 5-6 holes in them if placed well.
If they refuse to chase you that close have your buddy jump off with a keg and swim it out in front of them. Or jump of the boat grab their ladder and drop their anchor. If he does oh well he’s right back on your boat.
A friend and I sunk three galleons tonight while we were on a sloop. It really comes down to the skill of the crew.
Additionally the sloop is faster when sailing into the wind. The galleon is only faster if it is sailing with the wind in its sails. Just sail directly into the wind and they can’t catch you.
