What is the best gaming laptop for Sea of Thieves?

  • So, my Dell Inspiron 5558 Signature Edition has way too low for specs, and I am trying to save up for a new gaming laptop. I did find a few I might consider, but I wanna ask you guys if these computers would play the game with 40-60 fps and on good graphics.

Idk much about computer specs, so.... yeah would either of these run the game fine? And if not, what gaming laptop would you guys prefer me to use?

  • Any reason a laptop? IMO youd get better value for money buying a desktop

  • @cheatingpirate That should run it just fine. The game is very well optimized.

  • @uvg-reign I got no place to put a desktop and I move around a lot

  • @liquickmetal Alrighty, Thanks!

  • I did have gtx 980m ROG laptop and that didn't run the alpha too good. On lowest settings you'd be looking at the 60 fps while running at 1080p. My new laptop has GTX 1080 and a i7 6700hq and runs it all maxed out at 1080p well over 60fps most of the time but sometimes (really just once while the sun was setting near a big island) it can drop slightly under 60. That said, if I was to buy such an expensive laptop again, I'd go for a i7 with a K at the end. As that lets you overclock it and it's something that slows this pc down.
I'm guessing that with gtx 1060 and a good enough cpu with it, you'd get where you wanna be!

  • @retto-elbaroda @CheatingPirate
I don't think you'll have the necessary cooling to OC a laptop for any significant gains.
That being said, in my test sessions I've monitored my usage and the game utilizes the GPU way over the CPU. In my case 100% GPU and 30% CPU. AMD 290x / i74790K, which is great because the GPU should be doing the heavy lifting.

  • @liquickmetal From what I've seen on YT you can actually reach quite a good boost with the new i7 CPUs. Obviously you can't go crazy high, but it gave 5-10% boost in some cases I've seen. But more importantly. The K processors tend to be at the higher end of the spectrum and it simply is something you need for Gtx 1080. It's sad to see such a beast being slowed down by a c****y cpu.
That being said, games like Witcher 3, PUBG, SoT run rather well. But if you try to run Crysis 1 with that cpu, it will make you cry.

  • @retto-elbaroda OOOOOOoooooooooo what is your new laptop? And how much does it cost? (Trying to find a job and trying to get the laptop before launch.)

  • @cheatingpirate It's one of the GT73VR 6RF Titan Pro. You already know the CPU and GPU and the last thing you can choose was the monitor. I went for a 120HZ G-Sync but you can also pick a 4K 60hz G-sync

    And it was about 2.2K Pounds ;_;

  • @retto-elbaroda 0_0 that is extremely expensive but worth it at the same time.... I think i'll just stick to the GL703DV-DB74 that I posted.

  • @cheatingpirate Yea. It was a lot of money but I gave it to myself like a present for staying so far from home for so long :D
Another thing is btw, that as I said, the fps was liek that in alpha. That can get better with the release...

  • I have an ASUS just like that and it is amazing power and graphics

  • @baddad82 Ooooo what model?

    @Retto-Elbaroda As in... low fps?

  • @cheatingpirate Not necessarily. But in most games it tends to be the case. That after the final release the game will get a boost in fps.

  • @retto-elbaroda So, this $2,500 laptop you posted has low fps on most games? dang

  • @cheatingpirate Not most games and not "low fps". All I'm saying is, it can p**s one off when while I can run a modern 2017 game on max settings, there is still a 2007 game that simply needs more CPU power. Which I simply don't have. And a computer built for 1/3 the price can run it better. The thing is that if you spend so much money, you expect everything to be flawless maxed out. When it's not, it just isn't great :D.

  • @cheatingpirate it’s the strix got 16 go of ram and 4 gab video card and I get over 150 FPS on gta

Got a ROG Strix laptop with a 1060 (6gb version) and i7-6700HQ with 16gb of RAM..
It'll be enough to get good quality and normal fps.

But I play it on my desktop because it's actually a rocketship xD

@CheatingPirate if you really want to play high quality, don't buy a laptop, but if you wish, just go with the top of the midrange, it'll be enough.

  • @vitix88 I myself much prefer ROG to MSI. Sadly a 1080 rog was out of reach for me...

  • @retto-elbaroda same here! I'm so happy with my ROG stuff I built my new desktop with ROG (MB and GTX 1080Ti).

Never been this satisfied with MSI, but thats personal

  • @vitix88 The MSI laptop I have is great tbh. It has some smart cooling solutions and lots of other cool stuff. But compared to ROG it still isn't quite there in support, updates, overall feel. But at the same time, ROG gets much more pricy. You get what you pay for in both cases. Other than that we had one MSI laptop years ago and it was decent... nothing special. This one feels very sturdy, it's all well fitted, great performance (except for that CPU which is my fault) and really it is a good laptop. Screen has no light leaks and stuff. Still. If I could afford a ROG, I'd go for that :D

  • Buy a Mac, boot camp windows for free... done.

  • @retto-elbaroda I understand what you say. For long I didn't have enough money to buy a decent (high-end) computer either. (I've played on an old desktop, a medium-quality from back in 2011 and on a mediocre laptop from the same year).

So last year I had some luck in life and bought the laptop and half a year later I bought my desktop, and really, the desktop I made was intented so I could participate in the Alpha of SoT and render it in full glory xD

@RoughMonkey0 I don't understand the advantage of that move, here in the EU those macbooks cost more than a high-end gaming laptop, which obliterates anything from Apple, performance based.

@CheatingPirate lol, I've only just clicked your link, the laptop you are proposing is almost the same as the one I have here at home. Only thing is I have the 1060 (6gb) version, rest is exactly the same (I have the 15" screen because I hate 17" laptops). It is a very decent laptop and can run most games on high/ultra (PUBG/GTA V/BF1/The Division/Witcher 3/Destiny 2..almost anything new I can render at 80%~maxed at 60fps). Most important, It's as strong (or stonger) as my mate's $2k+ desktop...

  • @vitix88 Unfortunately I don't have room for a desktop, so I am kinda restricted to a laptop...

  • @cheatingpirate in that case I would recommend a ROG strix laptop (like the one you posted in this thread) ;)

  • @baddad82 Hold up, what laptop? Strix?

  • @vitix88 Ohhhhhh ok that makes more sense. Thanks!

  • @cheatingpirate When you say restricted for space for a desktop, do you mean in the sense of an office desk, monitor, chair and all that?

Reason I say is because my desktop is plugged into my tele in the living room with my mouse mat on my sofa arm and wireless keyboard on my lap with my feet up on a coffee table. Thats how I roll ...

I used to say the same stuff before I went 100% Mac, it was the best move I ever made. Most people do not understand that Mac is also Windows. Windows 10 is free, and OSX is free. There is no reason to not have both in this new world of free operating systems.

  • Since Intel f.... up with Spectre/Meltdown you may prefer an Ryzen based Laptop

  • You can get a used alienware with a 1070 in it for around 1400.

  • Alien ware are top notch for gaming on both pc and laptop

  • @g0th1chunt3r Yeah, i bought my 1070 laptop used for 1400. I dont even use my 1080ti main desktop anymore. the 1070 laptop runs everything i throw at it. And a 1080ti right now is going for 1200-1500 bucks. Better to currently get the laptop. Even the 1060 laptop is a good deal. I personally wouldnt get the 1050 or 1050ti model tho.
