PC Edition (Physical/Download)

  • Hi,
Is there only being a Download Edition of the PC edition?
I found if correct on Amazon UK (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-5050013391171-Sea-of-Thieves/d*/B00ZFNLTO8)
It says that it is a DVD-ROM, so guess it is a physical edition?
I am old fashioned and still prefer physical over download.
If anyone can confirm that there is a physical PC edition being released would be great.
    Cheers
    Will

  • I would like to know this too, i would prefer a physical release for PC for sure, but so far there doesnt seem to be any, while you can pre order the xbox physical release on every online store by now :s

I would love to pre order this game but i am holding of with the hope that we still get a physical release for PC, to be honest i dont see why we would not, its a big game id imagine they want to sell it to as much people as possible.

If there will be one, would be nice if we could pre order that one too, for the bonuses :)

  • @dodgywill @NivekBe

This seems to be the way of the world very much nowadays, PC releases very Rarely get a boxed release and just get downloaded via the stores.

It is a very sad thing indeed as I loved all my cardboard PC game boxes.... ahhh the smell of them!

I haven't heard anything yet about a boxed retail PC version yet and that Amazon page and image hasn't changed in a while.

  • @musicmee @NivekBe
Thanks for replying. Yep I love the physical copies also. I asked Amazon UK Live Chat and the customer service rep said that it was physical.
Hopefully Rare can confirm for us soon :)

  • @dodgywill last I saw, the PC DVD version on Amazon specified it was for Windows 7....which is incorrect as it is only Windows 10

  • @triheadedmonkey I did see that also... I think they have their facts wrong there!

  • @dodgywill Can I ask a question?
Do you think we're being charged too much for it on PC?
I've never paid more than £40 for a PC game before and I'm really put off by the fact it's £15 MORE than the xbox edition.
Wanted to know what others think about that

  • @amymunch AAA titles are always at the same price point when launched, no matter what the game is. So I would say no. It will drop in price when time passes.

  • @amymunch
I don't want to disparage the devs because I think they have created a masterpiece, but yea I think $80 CAD for a digital version with no physical production costs like the box, manual, dvd doesn't sounds quite right. I'll probably still buy in if/when it comes down, till then I'm going to enjoy helping make it the best it can be.

  • @liquickmetal Yeah I think that's what I'll end up doing.
See how release goes and decide then. I'll just play the hell out of the beta cause it's the only taste I'll get for a few months. Just upset cause I was getting it as a birthday present but I wouldn't pay for it at that price, don't want someone else to spend that amount either!

  • @lucky-monkee I paid £35 for Fallout 4 the day it came out so I have to disagree with what you say.
I'm just going to wait it out and see how release goes

  • @amymunch How did you pull that off? it's currently 26 pounds. So its highly unlikely it was available to everybody at 35. Fallout 4 VR is currently 59.99 eur on steam, so its suspicious.

If it was a physical release its quite possible, almost all PC games releasing digital on Steam etc are indeed 59,99 on release, however for some reason in local stores the physical version is always cheaper, waaay cheaper :/ i paid 39,99 for Fallout 4 on release in my local gaming store, physical version, while on consoles it was a 60 game even physical.

I always prefer physical releases on PC, and the fact that for some reason they are always cheaper is a nice bonus :P

  • You probably will only be able to download.

  • hey,
Video games practically only have CD keys in box now. I also love having boxes, but times change.

  • @amymunch Um my thought is it is normal price for me digital or physical (as I am in Australia) so digital is $99.95 AUD.
Have to try and help them somewhere with dev cost's I'd say.

  • @muuds Well, you still have boxes. Just not the game in it :D
