For God's sake, Sea of Thieves in third person.

  • For God's sake, when are you going to put this game in third person? This game has skins, and I can't even see them! What's wrong with you guys? Did you see the release of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora in third person? Sales skyrocketed! Sea of Thieves makes me nauseous and gives me a stomach ache. It's a maritime adventure game where the boat rocks all the time! You have no game vision. First-person games are FPS, but Sea of Thieves is an adventure game, not an FPS. A tip: if you want to see Sea of Thieves boom, put the game in third person, give it a try, learn how to make money, or Sea of Thieves will die, and it's all your fault for only seeing your own noses.

  • @organiki I really wish I could play this game all day, but I can't because I start getting nauseous and headaches. The game is great! When I go out on a boat with a friend, I have to make my character dance because that way it's in third person and doesn't make my stomach churn so much. The game is in third person when you sit or dance, what would it cost you to put it in third person?

  • This game has skins, and I can't even see them!

    Emote.

Did you see the release of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora in third person? Sales skyrocketed!

checks game Yeah doesnt look fun, or a good comparason.

Sea of Thieves makes me nauseous and gives me a stomach ache.

Try changing some settings, there a few lots I hear for such issues.

    You have no game vision.

    8+ years...

First-person games are FPS, but Sea of Thieves is an adventure game, not an FPS.

Gears of War, The Division, Fortnite...all third person and FPS :p

A tip: if you want to see Sea of Thieves boom, put the game in third person

    8 years...

give it a try, learn how to make money, or Sea of Thieves will die,

Well..how long it been? 5 months? Yup...where my drink because SoT has been marked for death.
    again.

So, in third person. Where the camera gonna go when your:

    • a small area such as below deck?
    • Tight tiny cave entrance with no hint of open area?
    • Able to look around forward, left, right, and behind you...(not fun)

If you have such issues. I suggest you look at the settings as they have made many changes and adds to reduce effects of such motions. You could also send Support a Ticket discussing this and see if they can pass this along, or they can give you abetter run down on certain settings to calm your nerves.

    1. It would make sneaking up to somebody almost useless cuz you'd see much more around you
    2. I would love to see you manoeuvre when fighting below deck in 3rd person camera, or any tight space. So I can laugh 😂

This isn't an RPG even though it's revolving around unlocking/buying cosmetics. Like it or not, the combat and gameplay is just more suited for 1st person. If you can't make you peace with it, go play Arc Raiders. That's another extraction shooter (SoT is best described as an extraction shooter with some melee elements) that has combat suitable for 3rd person camera. Or Star Wars Battlefront.

There's no point in losing time and resources implementing something that can only be occasionally used, for what.. screenshots and some self-glazing.

But even then, it still goes against sneaking mechanic, which is now a core part of the game.

  • People said the field of view made them nauseous and gave them headaches. Rare increases it. Now they're demanding 3rd person PoV due to having nausea and headaches.

  • With third person view stealth play basically dies.

  • @organiki
The idea is you ARE a pirate, not you're controlling a pirate. First person makes the game much more immersive and realistic anyway. If you are nauseous, chew some ginger gum.

  • @r3vanns Let's take Assassin's Creed Black Flag as an example: when you're on deck, focus the camera, which zooms in when you're in tight spaces. How does this eliminate stealth and put the game in third person? Just climb the mast and dance or wave, and the camera switches to third person. And you can see from afar, so why would I spend money on skins or buy something if I can't see it? What's the point of that, so I can see skins in the lobby?

  • @burnbacon So do this: include both first-person and third-person perspectives; those who want to play in first-person can play, and those who want to play in third-person can also play; that would be fair.

  • @blazebeard2313 I don't know what world you live in? What stealth mode? The one where you use a scope that can see up to 800 km/h? What kind of stealth is that?Just climb the mast and use the telescope.

You're actually comparing a single player game with a competitive PvP(vE) multiplayer? 😂 At this point I just can't take you seriously at all lol.

Again, as several of us already explained, if you have an option to switch to a 3rd person on a whim - that means much higher field of view (and around you) whenever you want, which negates the stealth mechanic.

If you can't comprehend that, than I don't know what else can we tell you. 😅

PS. also, if you don't wanna waste money on skins, then don't. Entirely your choice, and nobody expects of you to do so. If you wanna support devs, you do.

That's pretty much all there is to it.

  • Assassin's Creed Black Flag as an example: when you're on deck, focus the camera, which zooms in when you're in tight spaces.

Bad example. Different type of game compared to SoT.

How does this eliminate stealth and put the game in third person?

because as you said, "Use the mast and wave" Well...if 3rd person all the time..you dont need to do that anymore. You can see all around you at all times.

so why would I spend money on skins or buy something if I can't see it?

Others can see it. Shows you off, what you bought, wanna appear as. Others will know of your greatness or spending habits.
Besides that, Can you see "Yourself" from 3rd person? Why do you bother wearing clothes if you cant see them....

again, I say send this message to Support and let them send it to Rare team so they can "think" about adding a feature for players such as yourself. Maybe they will make adjustments to help with motions or visibility that causes MS.
One Fix they done recently, FOV. Try that. also disable any blurry items, and do some monitor tinkering on your end, sometimes that is issues. Along with, Well lit room, taking breaks, drinking water/chew gum. "Ginger" is good.
Also, sit up straight and further away from your screen.

Core game: You are the pirate, hence 1st person.

  • I don't know what world you live in? What stealth mode?

Think they meant "Sneaking" or Tucking. You know, trying to be sneaky while swimming in the water, or coming up behind players while they are busy with what in front of them?

The one where you use a scope that can see up to 800 km/h?

shrugs no clue what you got sneaking and scoping.

Just climb the mast and use the telescope.

and you missed the guy on the mast who been sleeping, and while your using your telescope, someone boarded your ship. :P Dont do that.

  • Play an emote if you want to see your skin.

A couple things: I've been to the ocean (Atlantic, if you were wondering), and it's pretty much like that. Being on a boat sucks and makes you nauseous; that's just a thing that happens. You get used to it. As for vision, the average human can see (if I remember my med text correctly) 140 degrees. I once joked to my friend that being on helm gives me tunnel vision. Giving a 1st person/3rd person option creates an issue not in terms of player comfort, but game size on disc, as you're effectively creating 2 games (well, more like 1.5 games). So rather than add that option, they add content.

  • Do an emote.

Uhhh, no. Moving the camera from a ViewModel Component to a SpringArm Component in Unreal is not "effectively creating 2 games" what are you talking about.

Well, I asked someone about this, so I'll give you their answer:

"...using 3rd person perspective can affect the game's size on disc, as it requires more resources to render the game world and character model from the player's viewpoint. In 3rd person, the game has to render both the player's character and the environment, which can increase the game's size on disc.

In contrast, using 1st person perspective can actually reduce the game's size on disc, as the game only needs to render the game world from the player's viewpoint, without the need to render the character model. This can be beneficial for games with a large open world or complex environments, as it can reduce the game's size and improve performance.

However, it's worth noting that the impact on disc size is not the only factor to consider when choosing between 1st and 3rd person perspectives. Other factors, such as gameplay mechanics, immersion, and player experience, an also play a significant role in the decision-making process." - My phone A.I

Well, I asked someone about this, so I'll give you their answer:

    • My phone A.I

AI is not "someone" it is a thing moreover, based on that response you prompt engineered for an answer that sounds correct for a layman, but is incorrect for someone who actually knows.

So umm Hi, I am Unreal Engine developer

"Size on disk" has nothing to do with what Component the camera is attached to on a PlayerPawn.

In the case of Third Person, we attatch it to a component called the SpringArm, in FirstPerson it is part of a unique PlayerPawn Component called the ViewModel, usually consisting of just the characters arms, each with a socket and target that make it possible to "hold" things like weapons or to 'fake' visual interactactions with the environment.

In a multiplayer (replicated) environment like Sea of Thieves, a player's ViewModel and PlayerModel are always rendered, even to yourself. This solution is what casts your shadow, allows other players to see you, interact with you (ie; shoot you), and allows you to seamlessly see yourself when you use an emote. This is in contrast to a non replicated environment (single player) which would not render a PlayerModel.

However, in a 3rd person projects, render costs are actually significantly lower. A player does not look at objects as closely. Textures are not viewed at high angles of parallax, so virtualization (like normal, specular maps, etc) does not have as much technical-overhead since it is not viewed close up from extreme angles. Likewise, it also means texture artists can use lower resolution textures that still look believable despite being stretched out cartoonishly in first person.

  • @wrstplyerusw

That a lot of AI typing..... xD

    ANYWAYS
    As the OP requested.

Having Third person. At first, it seem to be a sick and nauseous request but seem to turn into a "I cant see my costume" reason.

As mentioned, send this sorta information to Support and allow them to tell you what settings the game offers to help relief you or they will send it to the Dev team and they will "see" what they can do.

But if its to see the world around you, pretty much making the FOV change worthless now. yeah, No.

  • @BurnBacon

    It's not AI

You can view relevant documentation here:

  • 3rd person would break this game to a serious degree. Can you imagine how bad 3rd person would be inside ships? Those places are so tight that a 3rd person camera would never work. Try doing an emote inside the sloop hold, the lines of sight are atrocious. They also said they have specific reasoning for 1st person. They want you to be the eyes watching the experiences, not a camera floating behind someone else who is having those experiences.

  • @organiki raise your fov and thank me latter
