Players griefing and toxic players

  • I full heartily LOVE SoT! I am glad they had made Safer Seas but it makes it at a stalemate when you can't push rep past 30 and unable to do a lot of the fun stuff on High Seas. It is a HUGE difference, Don't get me wrong I understand High Seas is meant for PVP but before they made Safer Seas people who didn't want to fight and deal with toxic players who do nothing but grief and troll, eta. then Safer Seas came out but Safer Seas is limited to progression and halts at a point. What fun is that? I am not against when I step onto High Seas I will come a crossed a few PVP players who want to steal and thieve my bounty of treasure I have dug up, which is apart of the risk in playing in high seas. But what I have seen as of lately in the Seasonal 16 for Reaper's bones has seriously brought out of serious amount of toxic, griefing players in High Seas. I used to be able to play for hours and not have many issues with griefing, toxic players who want to do nothing but get on the mic and talk trash, foul language to people. I have been chased for quite awhile with nothing on my ship, get boarded no one sinks my ship but they keep killing repeated to the point of just logging out. I play High Seas to progress in the game to earn titles and get ship decor and many other things which safe seas if again limited to what you can earn and you can't decorate your ship really and enjoy seeing the time you've put into the game to show it on your ship.

Again I am NOT against PVP, I will PVP from time to time but there is a point when enough is enough and stop the dang griefing and harassing when someone doesn't have anything on the ship or just loaded in and trying to gather everything. Then you turn around and snap of a fingers there are the griefing players who want to do nothing but harass and more. I will not full heartedly say Streamers are the HUGE part to blame but they are part of the player base being toxic and harassing other players who want to play high seas and not be constantly harassed.

  • The game design and intent for Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure, and it always will be. Those who wish to play in the confines of Safer Seas will always have the option but we will not bring the rewards and activities in line with those of High Seas when many of the restrictions are in place due to the risk vs reward factor that is inherent in Sea of Thieves - removing any risk means rewards must be balanced accordingly.

Safer Seas will act not only as a safe space for our Tall Tale players but also for families with children who just want to pirate, for people who want to play the game but learn the ropes and it will organically feed into Adventure mode, keeping the player pool there healthy and upskilled as they've learned the mechanics.

This is not only useful for new players but also families and players with accessibility needs - the whole game suddenly becomes available in a way it hasn't before, letting them naturally progress to High Seas and become a Pirate Legend. SoT has grown a huge amount in 5 years and it can be fairly overwhelming.

The borders put in Safer Seas mean that to experience the full depth and breadth of the game you will have to hit the high seas BUT if you're playing with your family you don't have to, you can just enjoy the game and have fun as a family.
