Speculation on the Cap'n

  • Does anyone have any knowledge or theories on who the Cap'n could be? Captain Falcore mentioned it could be Captain Hook from Peter Pan considering the ending of the 5th pirate's life tall tale and the scratchmarks on the left arm of the Cap'n's chair in the 4th Pirate's Life tall tale after the dark breathen holds a meeting. (I'm not gonna bother mentioning that Jack Sparrow said he'd be back to the sea of thieves eventually but that's off topic.)

  • Cap’n is a skeleton lord and the former BB captain. I don’t think that works

  • Well, it depends on the timeline. From what I know (which is kind of a lot) about Captain Hook and Neverland, people can’t (or don’t) age when within its borders, and there are a number of magical materials, creatures, and treasures. Given that there is not a definite year that Sea of Thieves takes place in, but is set sometime within the Golden Age of Piracy, according to my sources, it is possible; here’s why.

Captain Hook’s ship, the Jolly Roger, is (in most depictions) a Spanish galleon, likely of mid-late 1600s design. Because of this, if Sea of Thieves takes place in the very late 1600s or the early 1700, as much as 60 or so years could have passed, during which Hook could very well have been afflicted with a curse, or left Neverland and been afflicted with one elsewhere. Captain Hook is a learned man, perhaps even a gentleman, as far as ruthless child-hunting pirates go. According to Sea of Thieves lore, the Chalice which gives people the Skeleton ‘Curse’ was locked in an obsidian casket, meaning the Cap’n would have done his research and try to contain the threat. It is very well possible that, upon finding or stealing the Chalice, Hook stored it away.

So, let’s presume that Hook defeats or gives up on Peter Pan. He leaves Neverland for more piratical pursuits, only to be plagued by the Grand Maritime Union. He searches and searches for good waters, and finally comes to find the Sea of Thieves. He enters, with young Flameheart as part of his crew, on a new ship better suited for the Sea of Thieves; a ship we now know as the Burning Blade. He discovers a chalice, but learns it is cursed, so he locks it away. But then, Flameheart mutinies, tossing the good Cap’n overboard and taking the Chalice for himself. With the Sea of Thieves being full of Skeleton Curse-afflicting treasure, he succumbs to the same fate, but growing to hate his flesh-less state, as evidenced by his having the Chalice locked. And, of course, perhaps this second item is also a chalice, one which provided him with infinite water, as was stated in the Tales of the Sea of Thieves book, which was written by the Servant of the Flame, Flameheart Jr.

So I’d say it’s possible, though not likely due to one thing: Return to Neverland.

There is a sequel to the original Peter Pan movie, called Return to Neverland, in which sees Wendy’s daughter go to Neverland…. During the Blitz of London. Which proves that, without some form of time-warping or shifting effect, it’s not possible because Captain Hook is still in Neverland, aboard the Jolly Roger, fighting Peter Pan, long after the end of the Golden Age of Piracy.

    So possible but VERY unlikely.

  • @sirpebble323 I really wish they'd reveal who the Cap'n is already though, because we literally don't even know that much about him lol

  • @thunderdrago205

Perhaps it’s Captain Hook from Peter Pan.

  • @thunderdrago205 Old-fashioned opinion, I’d think, but I’d personally like to have an in-game drip-feed like the days of old, when NPCs got new dialogue, and islands had small clues, unknown to the common swabbie, for attentive folks and Lore enthusiasts such as myself to find. It’s been too long…
