I was doing hunters call today and had been filling a storage crate with all the fish i caught in a 5 hour session. I am a long time player but have been playing a great deal less because, let's face it, this game has been struggling for the last year or two. Things are getting better (and I really like this update so far) but prior to now I've felt very little motivation to play. So I diddn't realize that along with all the container changes that have come since captancy, that now that storage crates are sellable too, they changes made in captancy where the contents are sold seperatly from the container itself, doesn't apply to storage crates too! Save to say I had 50 plus fish in that crate. Assuming they they would work the same way all other chest containers which you can place sellable items in do, I sold it..... for 250 gold and no rep. It was FULL! HOURS of work I will never get back because these containers inexplicably do not work like every other container you can place sellable items in in this game. This experience absolutely ruined my day. It was SOOOOOO much better when you couldn't sell these. 250 gold is not even close to an amount that is worth having the possibility of losing this ,much work in an instant. It doesn't even make sense as an amount! 5000 to buy the crate empty, which has ALWAYS been a preposterous amount, and the only 250 when sold chock full? Plus the game in no way takes into account the value of anything in the crate?
I've been playing since 2021 and this makes me want to stop. the reality that I could lose an entire 5 hour session like this and have no way to recover. This is so much worse than being sunk. There is no winner here, and it's simply due to a terrible design oversight. PLEASE, make these unsellable again or make them no longer take fish or something. It's far worse than just the gold loss too. I lost the gold, the rep, the achievement progression and the time. Everything. Layers and layers of loss.
SO many people will lose loot this way by making a simple, rational assumption that containers all work the same way. There really is no reason for this from a design standpoint. All I can do at this point is point out the problem and hope Rare understands.
I'm sure rare knows they have made a very very time-consuming game here and it is a big ask to expect people to commit the hours it takes to do some of these tasks. It's disrespectful of that time commitment made by players to allow for a no win scenario like this. I've been sunk and had hours of loot stolen in this game, so many times, but at least in those situations I could fight back and recover. And if I couldn't, the other crew gets the loot. But I wasn't sunk, In 5 hours I wasn't sunk, and when I go to claim the rewards they are stolen from me be bad game design. In this storage crate scenario, I lose, No other player wins, and Rare loses too, because if I didn't have all the time in this game that I do, this would be it. I'd be done.
