[IDEA] Kill Cam Feature for Improved Player Reporting

  • After being killed and sent to the Ferry of the Damned, players can approach the Flames of Fate and press a button to view a kill cam from the perspective of the player who killed them. This would allow players to see the events leading up to their death and help identify any suspicious activity.

This feature would streamline the reporting process. Players could quickly report suspicious or unfair behavior by pressing a "Report Player" button, sending the kill cam video directly to a mod team for faster review. This would improve the speed and accuracy of player reports, reducing the time moderators need to investigate cases. With video evidence, the mod team can more easily detect cheating, hacks, or toxic behavior, resulting in a quicker response and more effective moderation.

By providing players with transparency, the kill cam feature enhances the overall experience, helping players understand how they were killed. This could reduce frustration over unclear or seemingly unfair deaths, leading to a more positive gaming environment. Additionally, seeing how a death occurred can highlight moments of skill or clever gameplay, fostering a better appreciation for the game's mechanics.

  • Had a similar idea some months back. If it's something the devs can code and the servers can handle, I think it would benefit the playerbase as well as the security team that has to constantly sift through hacksusations.

  • Kind of also removed the fun of tucking or being sneaky. If you kill a player from a hiding spot. Now the kill cam reveals it.

  • Great idea but my guess is there is not enough cpu memory space.

  • I think this is one of those ideas that becomes a better idea as time goes on.

Years ago I wouldn't want it because so much of SoT was organic and mysterious during encounters/steals/etc. I wouldn't want it to interfere with that.

Lot different game now so I think it fits in more to what exists.

Add it to the shrouded ghost too so players can get a good clip of the encounter.

I've captured footage for years and it can be a pain sometimes. Would make it way easier and more reliable for SoT to help players out with that in some scenarios.

  • @uluckyhitreg I support this idea. It would indeed make reporting so much easier

  • @uluckyhitreg I love this idea and it would be great. We don't all stream so it sucks when rare ask for proof. It's like catching cheaters is our job and if we don't have film of it then we are just some A hole or something. Kill cam is needed and should be send with report 100%

  • I don't support kill cam, unless it's a delayed download of the kill cam. For example you can download a video file of you being killed a day later or after your gaming session.

Having a kill cam can show too much information and give away information that can affect game outcome.

Maybe the killcam gets unlocked in the game menu after a certain amount of time etc, then you can view it.

Having a kill cam can show too much information and give away information that can affect game outcome.

What kind of information do you think a kill cam would reveal that could affect the game outcome?

I don’t think it would have as much impact as some may think. Players who are killed already have a good sense of where the attack came from, and those who rely on stealth will likely adapt and move to new spots once they know a kill cam exists.

The kill cam could actually help players understand the context of their death, learn from different strategies, and reduce frustration by clarifying that it wasn’t a bug or cheating. Ultimately, it would help both sides evolve their gameplay. Additionally, it could reduce the number of false reports claiming a player is cheating when, in fact, they are just new to the game and don’t fully understand its mechanics.

I wasn’t thinking of allowing players to download the kill cam footage. Instead, players would have the option to watch it right there on the Ferry of the Damned and could press "Report" if they felt the need to. Once they exit the Ferry, the video would either be deleted or stored for devs to review.

    Other benefits
If kill cams were ever added, the data could also be used to train an AI cheat detection system. The AI could analyze footage for suspicious behavior, reducing the workload on moderators. Players' reports would provide valuable data to help train and refine the AI, making it better at detecting issues over time. Even after the system reaches a certain level, continued player reports would be necessary to keep it accurate and up-to-date. If a player feels the AI flagged something incorrectly, a mod could review it to confirm whether it was a false positive.

This system would allow players to focus on gameplay while the AI checks kill cams for suspicious activity, helping with both fairness and reporting.
