An Alternative Burning Blade Running Reaper fix

  • I'm aware that Rare have a fix on the way. Just thought I'd make an alternative suggestion for fun.

Imho the issue with Burning Blade Running Reapers is that there is no defined end to the World Event for the Burning Blade's crew since the Burning Blade crew can end the event when they like they get to define when the World Event ends.

I would suggest that a minimum number of rituals need to be completed by the Burning Blade crew to satisfy Flameheart (I suggest 3). When that number has been reached any crew member can remove the sword from the statue. Without the sword the Burning Blade cannot spawn more Skeletons and gains additional holes in the hull every 10 seconds on average.

Instead of the crew having to vote to hand in the Burning Blade, they literally hand the sword to Flameheart.

This keeps the Burning Blade in play as a ship until 3 camps have been visited and varies the dynamic at the end of the event. The crew of the Burning Blade can choose to sink the ship at the end of three camps, bring their old ship back and then transport the ship aboard the faster vessel or simply sail the Burning Blade straight to Reapers. Ambushing the crew of the burning blade during hand in would be a stronger tactic than it is presently, but they'd have a fancy sword to skewer the ambushers with.

  • @drnukelear eh, this just makes it easier to hand in as you only need 1 crew member to deal with it.

Personally I think the bigger issue is that there isn't an incentive to fight other crews. I think sinking an enemy ship should add to the burning blade's treasure stack, or be tracked as kills. Perhaps a track for rituals and a tracker for sinks.

  • The reason that this event is likely gonna drop off significantly is that people are just accepting that frustrated pvpers/hoppers means that there is an actual problem.

The "issue" isn't about balance, it's not about the sandbox, it's what it always is, accepting that upset hoppers/streamers/pvpers means we need to make it more likely that they will win. Cherry picking win conditions in favor of people with a louder voice.

That has happened time and time again in SoT and it's never been what has improved anything. Every improvement made in SoT was based on making content more appealing for those that play organically. And every time content has dropped off it's because of patches that made things less appealing to players that play organically.

"Runner" is not an issue because the "running" is the boat surviving to the point of turn in. Literally the design of the content, time consuming pve and then lowering after surviving the attacks.

People should have a 1 ritual requirement to lower, perhaps the BB is too buff and needs tinkering but the content has no appeal if they approach it from "streamers/non-organic style players are right because they are frustrated".

Good luck getting people to actually spend the time to do this if it gets more difficult to turn it in after all that pve and all that defending. It'll be mid season, people will just play other games and content that is less frustrating and less imbalanced for their experience.

  • Should be no limit to the number of rituals, rather no enemy ships should be within Reapers to lower.
