Safer Seas ever to have restrictions lifted?

  • I’ve been playing a long time on and off. Well. Since the beginning. And I used have my topics drop anchored on so much. And it was all over having non-pvp servers and now we have those and I have no reason to play them because of the restrictions. I’m not new. I’m way beyond what SS was made for but I hate people. Most of the time they shoot first and say nothing. Take your hard work and ruin your fun. I have no friends that play this game but I love the physics of the water. The beauty of the game is amazing. I’d like to work on my Athena’s rep. But never get to turn in anything before my serious lack of PvP ability gets my ship sunk and me logged off and angry.

Maybe, Make a third type of server where the AI is much stronger but matches HS in rewards and rep gain but no other players.

    Just a thought.

And what are all you veterans afraid of? Really anything that increases players playing the game. Right? It’s a game that’s 6 years old now. Stop being so selfish.

I will say thank you Rare for giving you pvp fanatics something to do rather than just hunt for us. That hourglass thing does seem cool. Never used it at all. But it’s not my thing.

  • Rare has decided to go this route with their product. The community doesn't really have a say in it and just as we've seen before Rare can change their mind if the winds favor removing the restrictions.

Don't bother wasting your time arguing with people on the internet about it or for any other topic in general. Your desire for a certain product is shared by many. Rare knows and understands this but they have simply chosen a different route. Whether it is truly an artistic decision or a business one we'll never know.

  • Between the way they word things about Safer Seas in their messaging on the forums and how high seas have become it seems to me that Safer Seas is the "avoid the possible inappropriate stuff/mics in the multiplayer game" spot and high seas/cheese is the higher reward for lower risk spot now.

Someone could easily just mute other crews and leave servers sometimes and pretty much turn high seas into a very profitable version of safer seas, and that's without all the cheesing and exploiting that some have done all season.

Even organically high seas has become very safer seasesque a lot of the time.

Around 90% of my sinks in season 11 are entirely bug related and I play solo, a lot, and with higher encounters than most. High seas just aren't something that people should avoid if they want reward. Different experience than it once was.

Pve is nerfed down to being more of a prop than a threat and the pvp pressure just isn't there as much.

If people play the controller servers it's even less non-organic pvp because most of the streamers/streamer communities aren't hopping around on the controller servers.

  • It's PvPvE not pve it's not selfish for people to want the game to stay the way it was designed to be and sold as but it is selfish to demand the game change to suit your needs

  • @blue-sfumato thank you for responding. Glad there are some like minded pirates out there. Really. Thanks

  • It’s not about the veterans saying no, it’s Rare.

  • The reasoning behind the "restrictions" in safer seas, is because that is not the game proper. The incentive to get more gold, fly emissary flags, or have access to Athena Stuff is there to entice players to go to the High Seas.

Remember, the intent of the game is to be a PVPVE game, its about the immersion, the trepidation on whether that ship on the horizon is friend or foe... that is part of what the game was designed for.

Part of the fun of this game, is that adrenaline rush... where you know that something could happen and it keeps you on edge.

  • Safer Seas is limited like that to push players to take the plunge into High Seas.

All things considered: Safer Seas is pretty generous when it comes to its limitations and the content that you're restricted to. Sure, 30% of rep and gold can suck, but all of the events in Sea of Thieves reward players under the assumption that other players can show up at any moment. So to prevent players from abusing the lack of players, Rare just cuts the profits earned rather than taking out loot or removing the event entirely. Rare even lets players earn all of the associated commendations and cosmetics provided that they don't require the presence of another player.

The only real loss then is Pirate Legend and access to the Athena's Fortune trading company, but even then it's pretty fair. Pirate Legend is supposed to be a bit of an achievement, so I get why they don't let you claim it or do voyages for the Athena's Fortune. Especially when you consider that it's the closes that this game has to "end game" content that revolves around being a high profile target on the seas. There's very little you can do for the trading company that doesn't explicitly invite players to PvP you. You're pretty much limited to the basic voyage and Sea Fort raids without raising emissary if you want to grind Athena's Fortune in peace.

I get that you don't like PvP, but Safer Seas is literally right there for you. If you want to play the end game content or earn enough gold and rep to get cool cosmetics, you'll just have to accept that other players exist. It's not like you even have to be good at pvp to avoid them anyways.

People should play HS because they like HS. Not because they were 'pushed towards it'.
Instead, the devs have taken the stance of "You don't like having your fun be at the mercy of every sociopath or CoD screecher with a mic? Take a 70% slap in the face!"
Which is even worse with the recent treasure nerfs. It really feels like the time of those who don't wish to be ganked non-stop is just not respected; Play for 3 hours, make MAYBE 1000G.
The price to not be a punching bag is 70%. Yay. 🙄

  • The game design and intent for Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure, and it always will be. Those who wish to play in the confines of Safer Seas will always have the option but we will not bring the rewards and activities in line with those of High Seas when many of the restrictions are in place due to the risk vs reward factor that is inherent in Sea of Thieves - removing any risk means rewards must be balanced accordingly.

Safer Seas will act not only as a safe space for our Tall Tale players but also for families with children who just want to pirate, for people who want to play the game but learn the ropes and it will organically feed into Adventure mode, keeping the player pool there healthy and upskilled as they've learned the mechanics.

This is not only useful for new players but also families and players with accessibility needs - the whole game suddenly becomes available in a way it hasn't before, letting them naturally progress to High Seas and become a Pirate Legend. SoT has grown a huge amount in 5 years and it can be fairly overwhelming.

The borders put in Safer Seas mean that to experience the full depth and breadth of the game you will have to hit the high seas BUT if you're playing with your family you don't have to, you can just enjoy the game and have fun as a family.
