Latest Update Issues on Console/Controller

  • There are a number of issues for console that came from this last update.

    1. Xbox deadzone at 0.1 is at least 10x what it should be. On high sensitivity, it's almost impossible to make small movements. Trying to aim in a circle results in drawing a box. The settings for deadzone need to be reduced by a large factor.

    2. The game seems to have more lag than before which gets worse over time. The longer the play session, the more frames that drop and everything becomes choppy. This is particularly noticeable when looking around quickly.

    3. Guild and owned boats won't load most of the time in the main menu.

  • I am also having this issue. It is impossible to accurately aim. It does not appear that PC players are having this issue from those I have asked to test. Appears to be an XBOX issue. I am on a Series X, have not tested other versions. PLEASE HELP! it is borderline unplayable.

  • LOL them problems are small potatoes I can't even play SoT the game keeps dashboarding me 15 seconds after the season 11 title screen. Redownloaded this game 3 times didn't fix it and all I got from SoT support so far is the sound of crickets.

  • Yeup im so glad its not just me, the controllers anolog sticks seem to be only able to go from side to side and up and down but they dont go diagonal in a smooth motion, i was worried it was just me cause ive done everything from uninstalling and factory resetting my xbox and nothing works, the controller works fine om other games too its just sea of thieves at the moment and i hope it gets fixed because i run eye of reach most the time and i can barely hit things at medium range and pretty much impossible at long range which is what its meant for

  • I submitted a ticket for this issue on Tuesday. The response I got was to uninstall/reinstall the game. Obviously, just a default response, but still very frustrating, especially after just downloading that huge patch.

(Yes, I tried that "fix". No, it didn't resolve the issue.)

  • @fast-420

Weird question: What processor are you using?

I recently built a new PC, and made the mistaking of using a 13th gen i9 Intel processor which has some issues with the Unreal Engine and DirectX 12. In BIOS I had to disable... can't remember the full name... some Overclock/Turbo 3.0 mode which was set to "Auto" and change the 55/58 for the main cores down to 54.

  • Give xbox players the ability to fine tune their preferred center + axial deadzones.

    The following is from Reddit.

“Center = need to move your thumb further away from center to register input

Axial = same thing but a cross (to help your vertical-only and horizontal-only movements stay steady). Basically if you're moving up and your thumb slides a little to the left it will ignore the left / right movement, and if you're moving to the right / left it will ignore some of the up / down movement (until you leave the deadzone).“

0.1, 0.2, 0.3, etc is not enough fine tuning.

Also the minimum speed after crossing the deadzone threshold is way to low. You practically never need to aim one pixel at a time. All the super low minimum speed does is cause players to over aim especially when you have to crossover the deadzone.

  • Im experiencing this exact issue on my series x as well

  • I had this answer from support for not being able to sail on my Captaincy or my Guild ships

"If you cannot enter the game using your own Captained or Guild ship, could enter the game using a 'Chartered' ship and return to the main menu? You should then be able to use your Captained/Guild ship."

I can confirm that this works

  • The controller deadzone thing is making it borderline unplayable (Series X). The deadzone is enormous since the update. I am glad I came here to see that other people are experiencing it because I was thinking that somehow I had just gotten much worse at the game over the weekend.

  • I haven't had a chance to hop on today...has anyone observed that this issue has been corrected with today's patch since there's no patch notes?

  • The issue has not been resolved.

  • @reverend-toast Lol What ever processor come in my Xbox series x that is hard wired to 500ms fiberoptic cable. This game can't run good on the system it's intended for with good internet. PS5 LOL

  • @sweetsandman the game is still broken unfortunately with community weekend here I have no hope my issues will get fixed. But good news April 30th might be my last day on an Xbox after 20 years of gaming on Xbox if this keeps up.

  • This community weekend is gonna suck looking around like this.

  • @fast-420 I got a chance to play yesterday and it feels like this was fixed. For reference, I play on max sens with the lowest deadzone.

  • @sweetsandman definitely not fixed, unless you found a way to trick it into working properly. The issue is not present on PC/controller, but is present on Xbox/controller.

  • Seems like when they switched to gdk there is now an axial deadzone by default when there wasn’t before and players do not have access to turn this off or adjust it within the settings.

An axial deadzone’s purpose is to make perfect horizontal/vertical scrolling easier by ignoring small inputs to the right stick.

You can really notice it when you’re trying to lead shots when you’re on a moving ship.

All in all I’ve pretty much adapted to it but I still wish I could turn it down a bit. I actually find an axial deadzone useful for precision accuracy when using a controller.

I never have played on 10 though. I prefer a main sens of 7 and then an eye of reach sens of 6, trident and flintlock at 7 and blunderbuss at 9.

    0.1 center deadzone

Sammy is the GOAT as usual.

  • @swapti0n fingers crossed it gets fixed soon.

I thought it had been corrected a couple days ago, but it may have been that I was messing about with the response curves on my elite controller that somewhat masked the problem.

Went back to my more preferred response curves and this problem is still very much in effect.

  • Are there any updates on when this will be fixed? It's making the game very much un-fun

  • im having this issue too i think. when i move myself around sometimes it doesnt respond to me stopping the movement or moving the other way and i spin out haha. sometimes it doesnt notice when i hit a button to grab/let go of helm or whatever. its pretty annoying but i guess its nice to hear they are working on it.

this has NEVER happened to me before that big update they did

  • The issue still persists and I can say I’ve submitted a request. The game is unplayable like this until it’s fixed. Feels extremely choppy and is just made worse by the dead zone issue.

  • Unfortunately, still a problem. Worryingly, it's not one that they (specifically) mentioned being addressed in the latest video.

The support team had me do some testing which, unfortunately, yielded no improvement. Also, worryingly enough, that latest ticket I had open while we were troubleshooting was marked as "solved" and not just "closed". I was assured in that closing ticket response that "resolving this is a priority for the team and we are aiming to have a full resolution published soon." I really hope that is the case as I can't play the game the way I normally would and it's getting quite stale playing how we're playing now.

  • @swapti0n Still not fixed. I am unable to reduce my deadzone to the point that I get stick drift which is the main problem. So much sensitivity is lost between .01 (SOT lowest setting) and the point where i start getting stick drift. This game plays completely different that any other shooter would because of this.

  • Idk with the elite series 2 pad i have in all fps games heavily stickdrifts on lowest deadzone ,same with the normal xbox pads.
