Grateful? People purchased a game and are providing their thoughts on a new feature that was announced. We are talking about a VIDEO GAME we purchased nobody needs to be "grateful" about anything.

Sounds like you guys are just upset you won't be able to bully the guy chilling in his fishing spot.

You are asking devs to change a fundamental aspect of it despite, as you said, purchasing a game with specific dynamics.

Not remotely upset, will be using safe seas myself to chill as well. On the contrary to some I do accept and welcome the differences of risk vs rewards that will accompany both modes, instead of demanding more, more, more.

All I stated was the population would double and they are losing out on a maximizing this feature with its current reward track.

For me I'd be fine with the 8x lower payouts and rep if I could still use my own ship and even join a guild in Safer seas.

A normal player can go out have fun for 3 hours but it can all be ruined in 5 min by some troll. They won't remember the three hours but the 5 min that ruined their game.

A lot of games similar to SOT have private servers and pve only servers and do just fine. Why do you guys think SOT wouldn't be able to do fine with those items? Are you saying SOT is a bad game without harassing and trolling players that don't want pvp?

  • Am I the only person who heard them say that the point of Safer Seas was to make you want to play High Seas?

  • No, thanks.

Any proof of that? Yeah didn't think so.

What is the point of having your named ship on a server with only you and your crew to appreciate it? Seems utterly pointless. Same with a guild, why have a social feature when you are playing in the unsociable pool?

A normal player can go out have fun for 3 hours but it can all be ruined in 5 min by some troll. They won't remember the three hours but the 5 min that ruined their game.

Sounds more like a player problem than a game issue. Easy solution that is ALWAYS ignored in posts like this - TURN IN MORE OFTEN and do not carry more than you can stand to lose.

A lot of games similar to SOT have private servers and pve only servers and do just fine. Why do you guys think SOT wouldn't be able to do fine with those items? Are you saying SOT is a bad game without harassing and trolling players that don't want pvp?

This is NOT other games and the main point of the design is to encourage differing interaction from players with DIFFERENT GOALS. Also PVP is NOT harassing or trolling other players...it is called PLAYING THE GAME as it was intended.

Because PvP in a PvP game is bullying. Don't be so toxic/such a sore loser.

Hunting down another ship that is doing tall tales or fishing is bullying/trolling. Doesn't matter if it's a pvp game. Other similar games to SOT have private servers and pve servers and are fine some even way more popular. Why does it seem you guys are afraid of this feature?

No it is not. It may be cheap or unsporting, but we are playing as pirates and since when did "sportsmanship" or fair play figure into that sort of role-playing?

It is only bullying if they are participating in toxic speech, they are actively stalking the same players continuously, or spawn camping with no intent to sink or claim treasure. Anything else is fair game, whether you like it or not. You consented to the possibility of PVP as soon as you selected "Set Sail" on the menu.

Just stop with the slander of other players who play the game AS INTENDED.

You are not guaranteed safety, even in such passive activities. You want that, wait and play in the Safer Seas where the rewards are scaled appropriately for the risk involved (even though I feel they are much too generous and should have been limited further in terms of progression). LOL, Steam numbers. Proves nothing as that is the smallest install base. And exactly how does that prove the population would "double" as you think? There is absolutely nothing to infer that. There is absolutely no direct correlation between those games mentioned and private/PVE servers. It is almost like you are inferring that these games' success was because of the existence of private servers instead of their own game design - preposterous! In case you didn't know, the game has remained in the top 40 most played games in Xbox Live SINCE LAUNCH. It has only recently dropped past #30 which can be attributed to the long season 9 and little content since then. But it has since rebounded also, moving back up the charts after this season was released...and not even a full week of counting either!

Hyperbole also does nothing to help your case, especially since there is no proof of that. But hey, seems like that is your modus operandi - make stuff up and hope no one calls you out on it.

Nothing I said was remotely slanderous, but factual. You would do well to learn the difference as you seem to have problems with that.

Also please stop with the slander.

More slandeish gibberish from you. You claim that steam numbers don't matter then proceed to claim sot has been #30 on the smallest gaming platform out right now. Not bashing Xbox just stating a fact when compared to pc, ps and Nintendo.

Grateful? People purchased a game and are providing their thoughts on a new feature that was announced. We are talking about a VIDEO GAME we purchased nobody needs to be "grateful" about anything.

Sounds like you guys are just upset you won't be able to bully the guy chilling in his fishing spot.

It's clear those so afraid of giving SOT the same features other more popular games like it have feel this way because they wouldn't be able to participate in what you described here.

Seems clear to me that you are putting out tired stereotypes on players to promote your own agenda because you have nothing of substance or factual to back up your claims, such as the ridiculous claim that the population would "double" if they did what you wanted. You are not guaranteed safety, even in such passive activities. You want that, wait and play in the Safer Seas where the rewards are scaled appropriately for the risk involved (even though I feel they are much too generous and should have been limited further in terms of progression). Live includes Xbox AND Win10 numbers, both having a larger install base for this game than Steam since it was released on that platform TWO PLUS YEARS LATER. Not to mention many of those Steam purchases were ALSO second purchases of the game for some who preferred Steam for whatever reason. You also seem to forget about one other significant detail in the numbers that does not factor in Steam - Game Pass. Facts - you should learn what they look like, but you'd rather not be bothered by that inconvenience since it counters what you are trying to say.

So in other words, you made a baseless claim with your click-bait title. You have nothing to back up your absurd claim so now retreat and say it was just your "prediction". Sounds to me like you have no conviction in your claims when the slightest wind blows and knocks down your house of cards. • @cp-felons sagte

I am sorry, I dont want to sound demeaning or provoking (rly not), but I am of the honest opinion you have not yet understood how the game works.
If fun for you is only optained in gathering/selling loot and making progress, then you are missinterpreting the game. I can understand it is much to ask to like getting sunk, but, the truth is that is supposed to be half the fun: The always ever present dynamic of "prey" and "hunter". THAT is what this game is about. If you manage to embrace that, then those "5 minutes troll encounters" are not ruining your game anymore. They become part of the fun. Many long time players state that this dynamic is in fact the most exciting thing about the game, and even though i have to admit I am nowhere near this level of "enlightenment" (lol), I think I can understand it.
Ofc its not meant for everybody. But that is what makes SoT special, imho.

If you only enjoy the looting and selling, then ofc. you want to argue for PvE only. But, thats not how SoT is intended, and, imho, its also not how it works. Because PvE alone gets pretty boring pretty fast.
You have to embrace the prey/hunter dynamic. Only then your path to piracy will be completed my friend ;)

If your suggestion would "double" the population, then where are all these people supporting your idea, hmmmm? If that was remotely true, shouldn't there be at least 28 people supporting your idea and claim? Yet crickets.....

So it is ok to call PvPers in a PvP game bullies?

    /facepalm

  • The whole grateful thing makes sense if you’ve followed SoT for a length of time. They have always said PVE servers will never be a thing because they want to encourage player interactions. So I think people absolutely should be grateful they have changed their stance a bit to appease the PVE only crowd.

Using an example of buying a burger without the bun isn’t it. You bought a full burger, you just want some add ons that they don’t carry. You are at the Burger King drive through window asking them to put Mcdonald’s big mac sauce on your whopper because that other burger place does it so why don’t you?

At the end of the day SoT is a game filled with all sorts of unique people brought together to sail on the high seas together. Yep, you run into each other, and the game is designed that way. Yep, some people are toxic but not all. What I think people need to understand is that decisions made about SoT do effect the entire player base like it or not because we’re all in the same sandbox. Rare wants people to have to work for some of the achievements and skins and what not so they retain their meaning. This is why there was such an argument about the PvP curses when they came out. People wanted to cheese the curses any way they could, and Rare wanted them to have some sort of meaning. Now when you look at someone with the golden ghost curse you don’t have to know anything about them and you already know they are at least somewhat familiar with PvP mechanics.

Pirate Legend etc will be the same, you’ll know going forward that person has spent at least some time on the High Seas. Take Safe Seas for what it is. A little haven away from things that takes all the risk out and some of the reward. I’m a definite pvpver I do everything from hourglass to fishing. I don’t target weak players or become toxic at all whatsoever. I personally enjoy the thrill of knowing at any moment I might be attacked, and if so I have the opportunity to use my creativity and skills to protect what’s mine. Alot of times, I lose it all, and then…. i just start over. No big deal, as you said this is a video game, and on top of that you earn nothing but skins. This game is meant to be enjoyed while grinding through skins/achievements.

One of the big draws for SoT is that there is a danger element to everything. Want the maximum rewards you can get? Go do Fort of the damned and become a shining beacon for all PVPers to see. Want the best emissary bang for your buck? Fly reaper and reveal your location to all of the server. This game is all about risk and reward. Why should SoT abandon their vision and make this game just like every other game? Some games are meant to be different.

No surprise you pick a click-bait, biased article based on your own title and claims made within the thread. Funnier still you try (and fail) to dismiss the FACTS that Xbox & Win 10 are the largest install base of the game and try to discount the Game Pass effect (again with no proof to back any of it up).

If Microsoft was going to give it up like you infer, then explain this article posted TODAY:

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment/gaming/microsoft-to-begin-doubling-down-on-games-following-acquisition-of-activision-ceo-says/ar-AA1iKMHh

Doubling down on gaming sure doesn't sound like they have any plans to exit the business or shutter Game Pass now does it.
