Lacklustre Herald of the Flame

  • So the big adventure in the Roar. How dull. Whoever thought it was a good idea to turn off all the volcanoes in the Roar made a bad decision imo. I understand you didn't want molten lava balls raining down on peoples heads whilst they searched for clues, but all volcanoes off? There are plenty of non island volcanoes, leave them on. Sailing from one end of the Roar to the other in a brown dead fog adds no drama. No spectacle. No ROAR! Not even cry from a kitten.

  • The Herald broke the Roar. What a jerk.

I agree. Very strange out there with no volcanoes.

  • I'd say the bigger issue (and one I hope we don't have to wait until the end of the adventure to get repaired) is that world events are rarely up and many servers have no world events for hours and hours

and I'm pretty sure once again fleets are broken (not spawning) which is very unfortunate

  • They had done something similar before where they made the roar like 20% its normal activity so you actually had time to do a voyage on an island instead of yo-yoing in and out because there was no cool down between eruptions. A few people complained about it being too calm so the reset it to normal then very few people would play their mostly players who knew no one else would want to deal with the area. So basically it was an extremely unused space. Not once did they attempt to retune it to make it a more reasonable place to play. The value of the treasures are double because its supposed to be a risk vs reward system but the loot needs to be even more valuable than that because risk vs reward and annoyance vs reward are 2 different things.

They also messed up the whole concept of the zone. Their concept was, part your ship a safe way from the islands then you would row in... But the volcanoes aim bot you and would just kill your rowboat and they had the stand alone volcanoes that aren't islands because they wanted to increase the danger zone coverage of the map making it even harder to have a good parking spot.

Not sure how much data they will be able to collect since the adventure is so short. Unless the dormancy is going to linger for a bit until the next adventure. But they can use this time to collect lots of data on how many more people are actually doing roar content when the volcanoes don't erupt every 5 minutes and maybe actually try to tune the place a bit. Before the ship damage change it was easy to just weather the storm but now with the big ship holes & fire makes it much easier for things to get out of control not to mention the amount of planks you go through now is insane.

Seeing how this is seemingly only for the 2 week event though kinda silly to assume this is a permanent change... If you like the eruptions cool.... Come back at the end of the month. More than anything seems like another complaint about oh no people can make money faster and easier. Who cares? It's all relative and meaningless as to how fast someone unlocks a cosmetic that is worse than anything in the cash shop. Though also funny how history keeps repeating itself with these adventures forcing players to the same play spaces so now all the PvPers know where the easy prey is. So the PvErs who liked to hide in the roar knowing no one wants to deal with that place have to take a break from their grind.

  • @wolfmanbush I think more often than not the world even bug is kraken related. Kraken is a world event and from way too many hours of testing I can confirm the Kraken event will never cycle out. Like the current forts, fleet if no one engages then they made it cycle to the next event. If you recall this was because no one care about the fleet event because the reward was so bad on its original addition. This lead to people doing forts until the fleet came up now that server is useless because its fleet time and no ones going to clear it.

When its Kraken time it waits for the first available ship it can grab. I was on an server with all ships in an alliance and we tried to wait out the kraken to see how long it would take. No world events were up the entire time, we gave up after waiting 5 hours. The second one of us left the island BAM kraken. So the kraken HAS to grab a ship. Once it spawns then leaving or getting sunk will allow the kraken to despawn but it needs to spawn in the first place or it never goes cycles out. So It seems more likely that the kraken gets bugged so once the world events cycle through to the kraken then you stop seeing world events.

You can see from the many times they have made additions to the game IE the new sea forts. Since krakens have a rule of not spawning if theres' stuff in the way like rocks or if you're too close to an island all the new stuff they have added all over the map had been obstruction the krakens ability to spawn. You may have noticed krakens are now grabbing us closer to islands than they have in a long time. If i recall the had increased the no spawn radius some time after launch. I remember some issue about the tentacles spawning in rocks so we couldn't kill them.

  • You say that. But I know for a fact people who complain. Trying to do the adventure and volcanos annoying them

  • What's weird is that with the volcanoes off, it seems like they cranked the heck out of the PvE on islands in the roar...at least during voyages.

We decided to speed run an Ashen Athena after our Veil Voyage today to see what it's like without all the island eruptions/quakes/geysers... We were having phantoms, skeletons and crawlers spawning endlessly and often two different mob types simultaneously... Honestly much prefer the equations/quakes/geysers to that stuff 😂

  • Sorry for a bit of off topic,

But what do we need to do on liars backbone? I went there, half the server was around me, one ship bailed as soon as I approached them (They were doing GH quests and I told them im friendly).

I hopped off on the island. Saw the Belles buoy, and had no idea what to do next. What am I missing here :D?

  • @zig-zag-ltu At Liars Backbone, you need to open Stitchers hide out and talk with Belle in the cave. If you are on the beach you'll see two paths going up the hill. Take the right path. At the end you'll find a lever. Flip it. Then the cave will open and you can go inside to find Belle.

Ohhhh I see. Since I have not done most of the tall tales, I stumble across these levers randomly and only know a few in the game. Thank you for this, I will try again today if half the server wont be in that island :D

  • I loved the adventure part of the quest, finding clues, fighting the increased spawns. It was great.

As a solo player, facing the Herald was such a let down. I was so "excited" to find out the whole server can see I'm running the adventure. Not only was there a red tornado, but it had special green lightning, so everyone knew exactly where I was and exactly what I was doing. Sure enough, I was half way through the fight and a Brig AND Sloop decided I was unworthy of the treasure. I didn't even want the loot. I just wanted the Momento. I'm not a strong PvPer, I admit that and accept that, but I also know I couldn't possibly fight the PvE NPCs AND 4-5 players. Heck I actually thought I would have gotten credit for the adventure once the other crews finished it, since I did quite a bit of damage to Stitcher, but no dice.

So in all honesty, these 2-week adventures.....if they are going to continue being set up as world events for all to see....well I'm done with them. They are not fun. Well, great fun for larger crews. Not so much for solo'ists.

  • @qu1etone

Did you think that the volcanos were turned off for a reason?

The energy of a volcano doesn’t just disappear. It’s been redirected! The Herald of the Flame is preparing for the rebirth of Flameheart. I would imagine that takes a lot of energy, volcanic energy!

The fact that the Devils Roar is silent is a bad omen and is foreshadowing impending doom. DOOM!!!

I’m sure the silent volcanos is a Lore aspect of the adventure

It could be the same just that there are no volcanoes killing off most of the PvE now :D
