It would be nice to be able to challenge a crew mate to a duel, be it for ego or practice.

Agreed. Make it an Emote (or series of them) like the "Make Friends" ones. Pirates in the same Crew who do that Emote near each other within a certain amount of time (couple seconds) can engage in friendly fire. Could even have a complimentary "Truce" one that disables it immediately once done. Can have a free version of each, and then variants on the Emporium and make some coin with it.
Or it could just be a Vote option in the My Crew menu. Less interesting but would still work and still be opt in.
I think it could be implemented in a way that maximizes the pros and minimizes the cons.
Even solely as a tool to get a crewmate out of a tree with a sword or a bullet would be worth the investment imo. Right there it would be a significant qol feature.
I've suggested a few times that there be a practice type of mode, I believe I've called it tally mode where people can shoot each other for scores but not deaths, This allows practice without unnecessary inconvenience.
