TLDR: I’m sick of sinking people that have nothing to lose.
Regarding emissary flags, I propose that players should be able to turn in broken emissary flags to the faction of their choosing, not just at Reaper’s Hideout. If I'm sailing around as a Grade V emissary, and a Grade I emissary is headed towards me, I know 2 things. 1) They probably don't have any loot onboard...2) If I emerge victorious, I’m about to be inconvenienced.
In this scenario, let’s say I am Grave V and I encounter a hostile Grade I emissary and sink them. When I am ready to turn in, I now need to go sell my loot at an outpost, lower my emissary, optionally raise Reaper emissary, waste 10+ minutes and sail all the way over to Reaper’s Hideout just to get a measly 1600-2400 gold for that Grade I flag…whoop-de-doo…I’ll just leave it in the water. But, if I could turn in my opponent’s broken flag and get my Grade V multiplier, that would be better. Who knows, maybe you’d see less crews running away from fights (probably not, but we can hope) if there was a reward and not an inconvenience.
I’m all for the “nothing to lose” playstyle, but it just feels like there should be some sort of reward for the victorious crew outside of a measly Grade I flag with no emissary bonus.
That goes to my next point regarding a sort of Ship Sunk Reward. Nothing crazy here, but something with a small value that every ship drops once it’s sunk. Maybe it’s a piece of your mast, or a fragment of your bowsprit, or a piece of the voyage table. Similar to emissary flags, it wouldn’t be worth anything if it’s yours, but to other crews it would have a value of maybe 1,000 gold, and can be turned in at any Shipwright Shop or Reaper’s Hideout (Reaper’s get emissary bonus in this instance).
This ties into the “nothing to lose” playstyle. I get it, I respect it, but it’s an inconvenience more than anything. Especially when people are constantly server hopping to find Reapers to fight and don’t bother raising an emissary of their own.
This would also probably help to alleviate everyone (myself included) complaining about the same ship coming back and getting sunk over and over and over again to contest a world event.
