Suggestion for SOT so Players can have fun again

    1. Only Adventure mode (No PvP, cause I dont want to deal with PvE and PvP at the same time and really want to do a world Event without getting "outplayed")

    2. Starting help for Solo players (I dont get why 3-4 man crews get more stuff then solo players, I feel like its a disadvantage playing solo)

    3. Regional Server (How am I supposed to communicate with e.g Russians)

    4. Either every Player has to activate Mic or no one (Kinda similar to 3. but how am I supposed to tell others to maybe put the alliance flag up if they can't hear me or read my messages)

    5. Let me play the game like it's supposed to be played (There are cannons in the game, and you need them to shoot other ships, but ur not allowed because you get killed by other players, shot by other cannons and maybe they hit you with peaceball, oh! and forgot, you have to bucket the water and repair at the same time.)... Yeah that's not how this game is supposed to be played.

    6. The most common response to people like me is:"try open crew"... yeah just to have a crew that I: 1.) Don't understand 2.) Who are new 3.) Trolling or 4.) Kicking you

I think you get the point
Let me know if there are are any ways to bypass one of the 6 Problems!

Join a discord and join alliance servers.

    1. Starting help for Solo players (I dont get why 3-4 man crews get more stuff then solo players, I feel like its a disadvantage playing solo)

I'm not sure what more starting help you want that isn't in the Maiden Voyage. Except shooting cannons, but that's more of a practice thing.

    1. Regional Server (How am I supposed to communicate with e.g Russians)

I mean, this one is fair.

    1. Either every Player has to activate Mic or no one (Kinda similar to 3. but how am I supposed to tell others to maybe put the alliance flag up if they can't hear me or read my messages)

Yes and no. I prefer hearing people, but if people type that's okay too. HOWEVER, I'd like the chat window to have 'life', so that I can scroll back and see missed/old messages. It's a useless chat box atm imo.

Not really sure what your point is here, might need a bit more of an explanation. Solo life is hard, I solo sloop all the time. Eyes on the horizon near constantly, and I stop by outposts after every 1/2 island to sell up if I see ships nearby/there's a Reaper on the server.

    1. The most common response to people like me is:"try open crew"... yeah just to have a crew that I: 1.) Don't understand 2.) Who are new 3.) Trolling or 4.) Kicking you

Never tried open crew tbh, no comment!

  • The game is meant to be PvP and PvE. It’s part of the game and it’s not changing.

Join the Sea of Thieves official discord here. There’s 30,000 people there so you’ll find someone. Also what advantages do 3-4 man crews get. Yes, they can get things done more efficiently, but playing solo is a choice.

For talking to other people, if they have their languages switched, the game will auto translate. I don’t know if it does this with any message, but it does auto translate the phrases in the pirate chat.

About not being able to play the game properly, repairing and bailing is part of the game. If you don’t want to do it, try finding people to play with in the discord I linked.

About open crew, yes it’s horrible sometimes, but there are also times where you’ll find really good people. Just find some good people in open crew, and join a new game with just them.

Pirates are a natural threat in the world, the developers themselves have stated they are a key part in the difficulty of the game. World events are a prime example of content created to be contested, that cloud is there for a reason.

Watch the horizon, be prepared and respond as you please.

    1. Starting help for Solo players (I dont get why 3-4 man crews get more stuff then solo players, I feel like its a disadvantage playing solo)

Crews have an easier time due to them having more people, but they don't get more stuff than anyone else. Maybe it is time to recruit a crew of your own? Nobody stated that being a solo sloop would be easy.

    1. Regional Server (How am I supposed to communicate with e.g Russians)

Use the chat wheel for instance, welcome to online gaming. The servers are regionally selected, in the EU we just have many different languages being spoken.

    1. Either every Player has to activate Mic or no one (Kinda similar to 3. but how am I supposed to tell others to maybe put the alliance flag up if they can't hear me or read my messages)

Everyone can read your messages, audio with people on PC also always works. There is a limitation of people on Xbox in party chat on voice coms.

It also might simply be that people are ignoring you? Maybe they do not want to be friendly?

Play the game as you wish, those killing you, shooting you with cannons and all that are doing the exact same. This is a pirate fantasy shared world adventure game where battle, stealing, etc. Are all part of the fun. Nothing you have stated indicates the game isn't being played as it supposed to be played.

    1. The most common response to people like me is:"try open crew"... yeah just to have a crew that I: 1.) Don't understand 2.) Who are new 3.) Trolling or 4.) Kicking you
    1. Then communicate better, take action, use the chat wheel or find another crew. You can simply hop till you find some comrades that you feel good with.
    2. What is wrong with being new, teach them a trick or two... you are now the captain.
    3. Brig them, record them, report them and move on.
    4. It is impossible to kick people from a crew, so... maybe showcase you actually tried something before you judge it.

You can also use alternatively discord servers, LFG or even the find a crew forum section.

I think you get the point
Let me know if there are are any ways to bypass one of the 6 Problems!

  • You mean to say after all this time I wasn't having fun?

    1. Its all ready been addressed and said, No.
    2. Smaller ship, less players, less resounces.
    3. Idk about you, I randomly find French and Russian players. Maybe open a LFG? Some "USA" players speak Russian and enjoy the company.
    4. You have a "wheel" of quotes/communication to tell people certain phrases.
    5. Do..you really know how this game is suppose to be played? 1-4 suggest otherwise...Cannons Yes, Shoot away. Of course player kills you..that how the game works.
    6. Its not the common response. 'LFG' Discord, Xbox Looking for group, make a post and wait for someone to join you BEFORE you start a game.

Open crew is a zombie apocalypse survival team simulator

when approached strategically you can make it a few seasons before they turn and turn on you

Become the clear leader with an objective and a plan and people follow
Don't be a jerk or bossy this will weaken the crew and build resentment when they need to be focused.
Anyone that can repair has value. Make people feel like they can and are contributing and they work more efficiently

Eventually one or more often get bored and apathetic and the dark arts take over but with efficiency and leadership you can take a lot of open crews into some form of victory before they turn

  • I believe the key solutions to your 1-6 suggestions is to avoid playing solo until you are skilled enough to be successful at it.

This game was designed as a multiplayer experience, both in co-op and PvP veins. If your plan is to play SoT solo exclusively, then the best you can hope for is to get lucky and start on a server with sparse population.

Open crew is a mixed bag of both razors and candy, and reaching into that bag can result in either pull. I've had more excellent experiences with open crews than toxic ones, but average meh forgettable experiences were most common. I only used open crew when I first began and nothing on the SoT Official Discord server was inviting to me.

I run an organization called the Navy Patrol whose purpose is to mentor new SoT players, assist the PvErs and soloists in their endeavors, and take the fight to the Reapers so unwilling combatants (as you seem to be) don't have to. It was created to assuage the bleeding out of (newer) players leaving the game in frustration and defeat.

It is also a place to find reliable and learned crew mates so that your voyages can be successful and memorably fun. It is a vetted microcosm of the Sea of Players, if you will, with the key focus of ensuring players are still having fun.

    Only dead pirates sail alone.

  • @wolfgang280203
Another good summary of issues with this game. As for how to fix them... Well, I've already suggested a few ideas on that in other threads. Namely the one asking for ways to make the game more fun.

Honestly, I will say again for the sake of repeating myself that extra modes with different styles/rules could help the first one.

The second could definitely be made a bit better with the a place (not a paid private server, mind you) where you were allowed to practice solo techniques against bots.

Number 3, the solution is obviously regional servers like every other game uses. Not sure why this isn't possible here, tbh.

    1. I'm not sure how you fix this one, tbh.. O.o But I agree that there has to be a way to find a happy medium.

    2. The biggest problem with the game so far. Playing the game a certain way is either discouraged or outright prohibited by the actions of other players. Honestly, again, I feel that alternate modes could help with this problem to a degree. Though, I know they wouldn't completely solve it.

    3. Well, there we simply have a problem with the community itself. A community which has been fostered by Rare and sadly encouraged to be extremely selfish and unhelpful in many cases. The only way this one is going to be fixed is by implementing a clear set of rules regarding what is and isn't acceptable behavior rather than the nebulous guidelines we have now. Also... Perhaps not constantly catering to one particular playstyle while telling another to shut up and deal with it.

Edit: Also.. I'd like to point out that I've never seen a game so resistant to evolving as this one has become recently. Both from a community and a dev standpoint. Like, any time someone points out ways things can be made better, there's always a group of people who show up to say that nothing needs to change. And it's always the same people every time.
It's very at odds with the fact that the game HAS grown immensely since it first launched. And it really doesn't make sense when you think about how it could be even better.

    "Only dead pirates sail alone."
-i only see dead crews after attacking me (solo)

Hmmm..... How can i say this in a way i havent said this before?.... jazz hands No!

    1. Starting help for Solo players (I dont get why 3-4 man crews get more stuff then solo players, I feel like its a disadvantage playing solo)

The game is made for 4 players. Any less than that you are increasing the difficulty and Rare has stated this. Solo players got a ton of help when thry did a rebalance of the Kraken, Meg, and Skeleton ship spawning difficulty back in the day. Youre fine.

    1. Regional Server (How am I supposed to communicate with e.g Russians)

Bullets and cannonballs seem to communicate for me just fine.

    1. Either every Player has to activate Mic or no one (Kinda similar to 3. but how am I supposed to tell others to maybe put the alliance flag up if they can't hear me or read my messages)

In my experience, people can hear you, they just dont listen.
I was under the impression that by default these settings were enabled.

There is no way the game is supposed to be played (except not cheating of course). That is the beauty of it. I stealth onto people's ships and spawn kill them or pop their kegs. Its literally a blast for me. Why force people to stop doing what they like in the game just because it isnt what YOU want them to do?

    1. The most common response to people like me is:"try open crew"... yeah just to have a crew that I: 1.) Don't understand 2.) Who are new 3.) Trolling or 4.) Kicking you

    SOT discord lfg for that.

Git gud mainly. A lot of your problems go away after that. You can always outplay people no matter how good they are. You just have to either fight harder, or outsmart them.

  • @wolfgang280203

What did you think this game was when you bought it? Did you not do any research at all?

I'm sorry you're having a bad time. You've gotten answers to your questions and more. If you put yourself to developing those skills, you will see your enjoyment increase. If you choose not to, or don't feel up to it, that's OK too. It's possible the game isn't for you.

Just for the future, days at sea =/= time played or anything. On forums "Days at sea" only mean during how many days have you logged on to the forums so if you want to see how much they have actually played go to their profile on the xbox app, achievements, SoT, and time played.

How did this reply end up in here?

    Ah the post was deleted.

  • @shifty189 Please refrain from posting comments that suggest a player should leave, or posting in a derogatory fashion toward new players. Engaging in arguments is also inappropriate for our social spaces. We have removed several of your posts accordingly.

Am i allowed to post anything?

@wolfgang280203 If you happened to see my original post, I hope it was not taken as derogatory. If you did take it in a negative way, i sincerely apologize as that was not my intention, and of course I don't wish you to leave the forum or the game. I honestly don't see how anyone could take comments as such but am willing to say it may have been me that was in error.

They added it few months ago. As an example I got 74days and 10h ( so 1770h?) If I remember right. I can go check yours to and update it to this post.

  • @limend where did they add this? Where the achievements are, the stats there? I look pretty often in there, and the last time I checked, there was nothing like this

Never mind...I just looked into the xbox app on my phone...it's really in there...just AWESOME! Thanks for telling me this!
