How about a way to change servers?

  • I'm thinking you could put a whirlpool somewhere in the world that when you enter it, it changes the server that your on without destroying your ship. I know that server changes happen when player count gets too low, but there currently isnt a way to change servers without leaving the game and joining back in.

  • That brings nothing to the game other than a safety net for people running with a ship load of loot and pvpers hopping with resources

  • Way to switch servers. Up and it’s already ingame.

    Quit and start new session.

  • Others have beat me to it, all this does is create a system in which players can flee from pvp. It also adds a way to add a safety net to players digging up high value items like a Chest of Legend. If I know someone is on to me and where my progress is at when finishing an Athena voyage, why would I risk being on the server with them when the option to swap servers exists. Now while on a new server I have to added protection of anonymity where no one knows what my current voyage is.

I've actually just thought of this and haven't really had time to figure out how exactly it'll be exploited so I might come back and say its a horrible idea and call myself an idiot.

What if a ship who has a reaper 5 flag has already sunk all the ships on the server and then gets an option to merge to another server but drops any loot they might have? This way you can't hop with the loot. An option pops up saying you have sunk all the ships would you like to migrate.

Thought of it because I'm tired of having to find the one ship on the server that I already sunk that is keeping me from server merging.

Actually no, nevermind. Thinking of the logistics of my idea, its stupid. If the option doesn't pop then you know a new ship has loaded in or that you haven't found one. Thats too much information, players shouldn't know if and/or if there are any new or old ships on the server.

    Sorry bout that.

Just to point out something, my argument doesn't rely on actually carrying loot. The Athena Chest example is more for the maps in their inventory. I may not have explained it well, but the crew would swap servers prior to digging up the chest. Digging up a chest while having the anonymity of no one knowing what you are doing, is quite the safety net.

One might make an argument that players would lose the voyage and Emissary status, but now you still have created a way to allow hoppers to have fully stocked ships. The current state of the game, one of the few disadvantages of hopping was a lack of supplies. I am neutral on that stance, but I've seen people get up in arms about hoppers as is.

Maybe it might solve the issue Reapers deal with now with empty non-Emissary servers. I've experienced it quite a lot where we go Reaper, sink the server, and are now left with an empty server without new Emissaries being created. Nomadic Reaper's might be the way to go. I'm pretty sure most won't care having to reapply Reaper status, if it means they can have new targets and have the benefit of carrying over supplies.

  • @nabberwar

Yeah no no, I gotcha. I was just pitching my version and then realized its still stupid lololol.

As I started typing I started thinking of different ways it could be abused and exploited. Way too many benefits in one direction too few in another. So I recanted my idea.

I wasn't disagreeing with you at all, just throwing my hat in the ring because I REALLY hate that single ship keeping me from server merging lol.

  • @sixthsoultodie maybe a way for you to change servers is if you are wanting pvp go to arena

I think it would just be easier to remove the map presence of both emissaries and reapers and figure out some other Reaper Grade 5 bonus rather than to mess around with server merge mechanics. At least then there might be a chance of new emissaries organically starting up on the server, but the emissary table minis would still be a problem.

The kind of information you get from both the tables and the map makes playing on a server as an emissary way too meta-gamey. The only problem would be that Reaper's depend on finding emissaries for most of their progress, so it kind of sucks to sail around and never find one. They could alleviate this by adding a "crystal ball" that illuminates when there is at least one other emissary on the server. It wouldn't show which ones or how many, just a yes or no state. I would place this at the Hideout so that people hopping solely for emissaries would at least have to travel to the center of the map first.

Hopping would still be possible, but no longer as efficient for locating emissaries and servers would be able to organically fill up with new emissaries because they don't immediately want to leave the server or not fly the emissary flag because there is a mini on the Reaper table. It would be a return back to when you used to have to actively hunt for ships.

Could change it up that only Grade 4/5s get to know if they are Reaper's or not. This at least doesn't give players the reason to jump ship early.
