This is based on my experience, watching youtube/Doing the quest. Noticed a trend in people that are just waiting to yoink this Fort. Ill start by telling a story, then offer some of my own thoughts about the matter.
Recently while doing FoTD, we encountered tuckers (go figure). Being smart to such things, we held a man back to keep the ship. So we dicovered them fairly quickly, and dispatched them, (Them being a Sloop team in the distance island camping). 2nd time they was discovered, they came back with their ship and circled around the island, after killing them another few times, they managed to get a keg kill that wiped the team. Of course our ship is sunk before we can get back. Now this is where the story takes a dive. The game in all its glory spawns us golden sands, with wind agaisnt us in a gally,. So by the time we get back, they've cannoned our boss and stolen the key. Ok, no biggie,. we can sink a sloop. Thus begins the 2 hour back and forth across the map chasing them,. Now im not sure if these was randos that happened to be in the way, but a new spawned gally shows up and helps the sloop escape the one time we about had it pinned on the edge of the map. So was this random? or discord hoppers that came to help their friends? Doesnt matter much in the end. S after ditching our ship to sit on FoTD for them to come back to use the key,. another hour. I finally have to go, because i work early morning and this has already pushed my play time way way over. I checked ship map after spawning,. they're sitting stopped above Devils Roar, in the lane most people use to go to golden shores. Ok,. story times over.
Why is this allowed to be a meta? I mean, we spent the time doing everything upto the point. These guys show up, fail theyre way into being lucky,. and our 1 mistake or unluck whatever you wanna call it, punishes only us. Comes down to a fundamental problem with the mix of long pve elements, and a pvp style that is spawn and go. They can make 100 mistakes and keep trying over and over. While we have to stay put for a extended period of time, and deal with them repeatedly. Only to have them steal the key and Sloop run the map for hours. This whole deal is grimey and anyone that does it, or approves of it, well, i got words for it. promise.
Personally i believe the key itself should despawn after a period of time after being dropped., or a distance removed from the Fort. Allowing people to steal the key, and then wait you out all Real Night, is beyond unfair in any game sense. Mean for all i know, these guys are from a timezone where it might be untill 6am in the morning before they give up., In every situation, we lose., they win.
Being since this topic is prolly been talked about to death, i only wanna add my 2cents to the pot on how, pvpers can fail-repeat-fail-repeat. PvEers only get a chance or 2 to make time on what theyre doing.
