i personally thing a crew/clan system could be a great addition to the game with customizable flags and sails for your crew/clan to really stand out from other pirates. A crew could have a max of 50 people and it would just allow for people to be recognized as a clan. It would just add a sense of unity between you and your friends and allow for you to seperate them from the random people on your friends list
As for the customizable sails/flags, i believe this should be a purchasable cosmetic and you could buy different colors to go onto your sail ect. You would then be able to draw your sail/flag from scratch. Once finished it would act like any other sail/ flag and be equippable through the same means as normal sails. This could potentially add a new community made section where you could purchase other peoples creations that they have uploaded
