Rare, The devils roar is TOO EASY! (Proof)

  • Dear Rare @S0nicbob @MikeTheMutinous @resident-veg @TakuBoto @C3DPO The devils roar is now ridiculously easy, nothing hits you 99.9% of the time and the region has become flat out boring as there is zero danger there. Yesterday, I conducted a test where I sailed into active volcanoes to see if I would get hit and I didn’t get hit even once, I recorded it and will link them with this post (these recordings aren’t from insiders they are from retail version of game)

  • This is just a minute and a half of luck not proof.

I’ve been in a Brig and got hit 10 times sailing past one. I got unlucky.

If you were going slower you would of been hit by one of them, if you were in a bigger ship you would of been hit by a couple of them.

As I stated before the aim bot volcanos were stupid. They are balanced now.

  • Last night we parked the boat at Roaring Traders and the local volcano went off. Our galley didnt get hit once, just sat there while we fished.

  • Why do you put this in Insiders forum, go and post this in the Feedback+Suggestions forum (where it belongs)

  • @Cpt-FlameBeard

Found a video I had saved of the old volcanoes.

You couldn't park at the island with an active volcano or this would happen. You would have to just sit on the outskirts and wait for it to stop erupting. Was a waste of time. You can now park at them and take the risk. It's now balanced.

  • maybe devil's roar is skill based and it thinks your level just isn't up to par so it made it easy for ya.

You just uploaded this video today but clearly it was before the anniversary update since I see non of the ship destruction being dispersed and it seems that video is when the roar first released, since then rare has nerfed it 3 times, 3 times too many. You shouldn’t be able to park next to a volcano while it’s erupting because that takes the whole point out of the roar and there is no danger. The way it was originally designed was to make your crew panic when a you saw the black smoke and quickly get back to your ship to evacuate and come back in with a rowboat hence there introduction with forsaken shores.

And you also say that there is a risk of parking next to one, what risk? There is non since the volcanoes don’t hit your ship!

  • @cpt-flamebeard if you read what he posted, he said this is of the old volcanoes......

  • TheDevil's Roar has been downtuned at least 2 times and is very easy now...Today i go there to sail in ease and solitude since the Devil's Roar's former reputation still scares a lot of Pirates but it is true ...The Devil's Roar is losing it's fear...They never should have listened to the first wave of complaints because we are humans and humans are the most adaptive race on this planet...After a week our crew had developed a way to survive the Roar...Alas,it became unneeded since everything became tuned down ...sadly.

  • @Cpt-FlameBeard

I don't know what version of the game you are playing but I still get hit by them.

I just uploaded it to show you what they were like as you clearly forgot. It was before the anniversary update when the volcanoes had aimbot.

If you go back in the Insider Feedback Archive to when we were testing the Devils Roar arena map you'll see there that the volcanoes were broken and that's why we don't have that Arena map anymore. I remember seeing 4 Galleons with all the masks down as everyone was just getting hit by them.

Would like to see that map added back with the new Balanced Volcanoes.

  • Are you seriously still on about this?

  • I still get sunk over there too. It's certainly not too easy, imo. It's better balanced. And parking at roaring traders should trigger the volcanoe. Maybe it glitched?

  • It might be time to let this go, man.

  • @cpt-flamebeard I haven't been over there since the nerfs so I can't comment on the difficulty but I have heard lots of people echoing the same thing.

I'm all for making the DR a challenging place. But I really hate the auto lock-on volcanoes. If they can increase the difficulty without that crummy mechanic I would be very happy.

It also is way too easy on the Galleon in my opinion. The difficulty does not scale well but I guess it's impossible to have the same level of difficulty for crews of 4 and crews of 1. Unless they tied the volcano activity to the number of players in the area? Kind of like how people can trigger landslides? More people near a volcano makes it more active kind of thing?

  • @cpt-flamebeard yep. It is going to be a kids / family game.

  • Your opinion is your own. Went there yesterday and proceeded to sink 4 times within an hour not to mention the number of deaths. Devil’s Roar is not only extremely ugly but also the most annoying part of the game.

  • I wasn't noticing it before (after sinking several times I'm just leaving volcano area), but after you said that... Well, I've tried to travel through the dangerous zone several times and I wasn't hit at all. That can't be just a luck. That's just isn't right!
The Devil's Roar was my favorite region. Twice more money, but a very high risk of sinking and I'm forced to wait a lot of times. And what's now? Just a good-for-grind region, especially for skelly coz the are dying on their own.
I remember an old times, when we could get a lot of loot, lose it, and a half hour later find a lot of loot floating in a ocean.

  • @diamondrdx how long ago did you sail past?

Since the last nerf we see fireballs literally on a path to our ship and divert last minute.

The roar gives such a big payout that it needs to be dangerous and it just isnt anymore.

  • @cpt-flamebeard
Cherry picking 3 videos of you not getting hit for 30seconds isnt proof of anything

I could do the same of me getting hit.

    @Captain-Coel
The vulcano near the sea post has 2 outbreaks, one short range which doesnt hit the sea post and one which hits the sea post.
You might have been lucky and got the one which doesnt reach the sea post.

  • I don't know if I'm unlucky but since the last update to the volcanoes, the volcano aimbot me like hell! I had no problem with the volcanoes before update, just moved away from it and was safe. But lately, it aimbot me like crazy, near all rocks falling in my direction hit me... But not other crews or my crewmates.... Don't know why. I found the frequency of eruption is perfect now because it's no more that often, but the falling rocks love me too much!
I didn't want the Roar to be nerfed because I liked how it was and never had a problem ( not sank from it more than 2 times since the introduction of the Roar) ... but in my case it's more like a buff...

That said, I will adapt.... like always.

  • This is getting sad. The 30 second clips as "proof" is beyond parody

  • Listen everyone, I made this post/feedback so rare could look into the data themselves decide wether or not it it should be made harder, imo it should be made harder because since last update I haven’t seen a ship get hit, I even saw a video where someone was parked at a shore with an active volcano and didn’t get hit. Some people say It was luck, it wasn’t I have other clips showing the ship not getting hit and also plenty of replies on this thread saying that they haven’t been hit either. I think that everyone should have an equal experience when by an active volcano and that is by getting hit by them.

  • "I made this post/feedback so rare could look into the data themselves decide wether or not it it should be made harder"
They already did that, and you've been making posts and threads about it like a broken record ever since because what they decided wasnt what you wanted.

  • Thanks @Cpt-FlameBeard for this.

I've found I've always 100% agreed with you when it comes to Rare's consistent nerfing of anything that provides a semblance of a challenge within this game.

I think one of the reasons I've been drifting more and more away from this game is that it's simply not engaging when there isn't a single PvE threat that can even come close to being an actual threat.

Features that were exciting and engaging are now just a complete bore.

The fact that you can literally park next to an active volcano on a sloop, and only get hit once during the entire eruption cycle (from my own testing) is absolutely ridiculous.

At this point, why not remove the volcanoes altogether? They're basically just for visual spectacle now.

  • The volcanos have always been annoying and a contributing factor in not bothering to go there, due to how much time you burn waiting for volcanos to stop or sailing away from an island while it starts exploding, which I'm sure shows up in Rare's telemetry. There is no challenge there with that mechanic; any one with slight experience in the area figures it out pretty fast.

The real challenge is, and always will be, other players. Going to the roar when it's empty is likely easier.

  • I am all for random. A volcano shouldn’t target you, however it shouldn’t avoid you either. We spent some time in a brig there this week and only received one minor hit.

Felt like snipping the volcano to see if it would attack us like a Meg.

It was designed (or at least advertised) as a difficult area which would require loading up on supplies before heading there. Now it’s just the shores of plenty with a blue screen showing volcanos. If anything it’s actually the easiest part of the map as you can kill entire skeleton OoS waves without using a weapon

  • Just a heads up... I am moving this out of the Insider category - as it really doesn't need to be in there!

Continue as you are. Just a warning for those veering to Insider discussions!

  • I want them to put the roar back into the Devil's Roar too. I hate that they keep nerfing the volcanoes. They are a natural threat like the storm. They are there to force your boat away from the erupting island, putting you at risk of kracken attacks, attracting a megalodon, and other ships. It is a nuisance? YES! That's the point! It is like the storm traveling around the map. When we see the storm on the horizon we have to decide if we want to risk going through it while being hit by lightning and slowly taking on water, or do we go around it/wait it out. The volcanoes should be viewed in that same light. The point of the flaming rocks is not to give you a skill challenge in dodging them. It is to force you to make difficult risk/reward decisions concerning your ship and your voyage progress. The auto-aim (if it is truly occurring) is probably a practical decision since drawing every rock needed to make it reasonably challenging could be resource intensive and could impact graphic performance. Either the Roar difficulty needs to be buffed or the rewards should be leveled with the other zones.

  • @MikeTheMutinous most of the people in this thread agree that the devils roar needs to be made harder, without it being hard it doesn’t make the area stand out from the rest and the volcanoes become glorified scenery rather than an actual threat to the player or ship. You guys pitched the region as being a “perilous and dangerous region” there is nothing perilous or dangerous when I’m parked next to a volcano and don’t get hit at all, I hope you take this feedback into consideration and decide to buff it back up.

  • I don't know.
I've heard from many people that the Roar was a joke now, but when I finally made it over there to check out the new balance, I didn't find it to be nerfed. I'd say I noticed less hits and maybe smaller/less holes on my sloop than what I expected (and I noticed a blast of magma that hit near our helm did NOT bring down the mast).

The individual's subjective experience, of the randomness and chaos in this game, can skew people's perceptions into thinking their findings are universal absolutes. So, I'm not going to fall prey to that, but I'm wary of others who may be.

I'm very experienced in the game and within the Roar (but hadn't been there much in the past month or so). I never felt like it NEEDED a reduction in danger - not even from the initial balance on the Roar's launch. I loved it's danger.
That being said, I haven't found the reductions to make it a joke or to be overly nerfed. Just because something is adjusted towards the easier side, doesn't mean they completely nerfed it. I've been impressed with the dev team, because I tend to cringe whenever I read patch notes about reducing difficulty on something - but I've found they often are only making a mild adjustment (skeleton accuracy comes to mind). Even the new sloop steering in a storm doesn't seem to be much different (I've only tested it a tiny bit - I need to check more into it, but I went through the outskirts of a storm and the steering was still a significant factor). I bring that one up, because I've always LOVED how crazy a storm can get, trying to solo sail through, and I don't want to see that lost.

Anyway, I heard second hand reports that the Roar was a joke, but I've visited a couple of times since and I can't say my findings match those secondhand accounts. I rarely ever let my sloop sink, and I did lose it to the new Roar once (I blame my partner more on that one, LOL, but it still sank QUICKLY to Ashen Reaches erupting).

    shrugs
Maybe it's too easy. maybe it isn't. I haven't seen definitive proof and I know people sometimes make a bigger deal about things than the reality of things.

    De omnibus dubitandum

  • Rare, can you please code the volcanoes to be ruthless but only to @Cpt-FlameBeard, that would also make a nice easter egg! 😂

  • Isn't the PvE just a supplement to make PvP even more interesting? Imagine a player conflict in DR during an active eruption. I'm pretty sure you'll have your hands full

  • Thank all the whiny "regular" players for this.

  • I would like to point out that I’m not against making the game harder.

I agree that the aggressive skeletons ships should make a return along with a more challenging Megalodon.

I’m just against the aimbot volcanoes.

I’m on PC with a pretty powerful rig, but you gotta remember the Xbox players with the original console from 2013 will have much longer loading times. Getting killed by one and sinking because the game didn’t load fast enough must blow.

Rare know what they are doing, and will have a reason for changing them.

One thing they could do is increase the amount of rocks that are thrown out with the random spread. Higher's the chance to get hit but they don’t have aimbot.

Personally though, right now they feel much better and less annoying.

  • @reapinglegion a dit dans Rare, The devils roar is TOO EASY! (Proof) :
