Please add a true 1 player ship.

  • The sloop was nice for a while, but it still has problems. Primarily the sloop is too large to bail, drive, and shoot with a single player. I recommend adding a new ship called the "Dinghy".

This ship would lack barrels and instead start with 3 non-refundable crates onboard - 1 for each type of consumable. This would allow the player to stock up supplies without having to deal with carrying only a single handful of items.

This ship would have no need for a jail.

This ship would lack a cooking station. The player would instead utilize the cooking stations on islands.

This ship would lack the customization stations (armory, vanity, clothes, equipment). This would make it so the player needs to seek out outposts to change weapons and clothes.

This ship would lack a crow's nest, but the flag box would replace the ladder at the bottom.

There would be stairs leading to the lower deck at the back of the ship and the main area would be below the top deck. the wheel would be on a platform in between these stairs allowing the driver's head to peer just barely over the top of the deck.

The sail, anchor, wheel, cannons, and bailing would all happen at the back of the ship. only the harpoon would be at the front and the flag box in the middle of the ship.

the solo player would be protected by a small window while firing cannons due to the back of the ship being lower than the front of the ship. If the player were to get hit with a cannon causing knockback the walls would keep the player from being thrown off the ship.

The ship would only have 1 layer of water level. once the water reached the lower upper deck the ship would sink.

The ship would be 3/5 the size of the sloop and be slightly faster.

Hits the the lower part of the upper deck would not cause flooding.

The capstan would be a winch instead of a capstan for thematic purposes. The handle would break upon being shot and require repairs to use.

The wheel and sail adjustments would be the same as a sloop in function just located in different locations.

Map table and quest table would be stored in the lower deck with a grate above it so that it can be viewed from the wheel.

I've included a sort of blueprint for the ship.

  • @wydyadoit Hilarious idea, but no 😂

  • @wydyadoit they have rowboats. even all the barrels are condensed on that one.

  • The sloop IS a true 1 player ship.
It is fundamentally designed around being manned by a single player.

Too large to bail, drive, and shoot with a single player?
    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Amateur. 😏

  • It is no more difficult than it is for a brig or galleon crew to manage everything on board the larger ships. On each it is a matter of allocating player attention at the expense of other tasks. You just need to learn the situations you can handle with the crew and ship size you have to reach your goals. Do not attempt to trade broadsides with a bigger ship and crew. Make them play your game and use the sloop’s advantages against them while avoiding theirs.

  • the pushback against this is weird. I guess no one else wants more ship types.

It's a 1.5 person ship. For the purpose of game balance it was designed so that 1 person could drive the ship without any aid. The ship is not designed to be fully functioning as a single player ship. The video you provided proves that.

My proposed ship would be fully functioning as a solo player ship and balanced for that purpose. The ship would be smaller and faster than the sloop with all the important interactions sat down inside of a trench on the ship. The ship would be super easy to sink though as it only has 1 water layer and any hits to the main hull would open a leak and require the player to bail on top deck. It encourages attacking players to ignore the pirate on the ship and instead target the oversized front of the ship. This would give the solo player an opportunity to counter attack safely. The winch crank speed could be adjusted for a solo player just as the other capstans have been adjusted for their ship's respective crews.

It's no more fair to say the Sloop is designed for 1 player than it is to say that the Brigantine is designed for 2 or the Galleon is designed for 3. In fact the brig was designed for exactly 3 and the galleon was actually designed for 5 players initially, however, players are far better at taking control of the galleon than the devs expected so the crew number was reduced. The Sloop is toted as a ship for solo players simply because a lot of people are against the idea for players to be able to play this game on their own as it's a game that's meant to be played cooperatively.

I personally don't see the issue and am advocating for more types of ships to keep the experience feeling fun and rewarding for all types of players. Just the same as people want a "man o' war" and "frigate" I want a dinghy.

  • @wydyadoit mate a two man brig is no biggie. Three man galleon has a bit of a stiff work around but can still be afloat, now a one man sloop. Piece of cake. I want a huge ship mate to fit all me crew mates on so we can play a jolly jig and and blow up the world.

  • @WestStormborn
you can check out the post I just made for a frigate then.

  • @wydyadoit Honestly, more ship types for the sake of more ship types is wasted money and man power. There is already a ship designed for solo players and this game is focused on team play not solo play.

atm it seems Rare is going another route and makes solo slooping the way to go. Its easy like hell in a sloop, there is no challenge getting a kraken or hunting megs solo.
If it is the way you say, help me to convince Rare they should incentivice to crew and team up instead to go solo because its 10 times easier.
The Solo Sloopers have only one threat.
    A PvP Crew!
And if you steamroll a solo slooper in PvP you have not challenge, no fun PvP, but a sour looser crying for balance.
And because PvE is scaled down to easy mode for sloops they don't see any need to team up and farm it easily solo.
But thats contradictionary to the PvP experience.

  • @bugaboo-bill Indeed a sad trend, this game is so much more fun with a crew.

  • @wydyadoit not neccesarily, it just means they don't like the idea of a single player ship. I don't understand why everyone wants a bigger ship, which would introduce even more unbalance between crew sizes, but not a single player one, but that seems to be the case.

As for your particular design, I like aspects of it like havimg to find places to change weapons and cook, but if they introduce a single player ship I think it should be more distinct from whats out there now. Personally I would like to see a slightlyarger rowboat that acts as a spawnpoint. No cannons, but with a mast that can be raised to sail or lowered so that you can be more stealthy. More nimble than a sloop, not as fast sailing on any point, but if you both sail and row faster against the wind. Small enough to get between rocks bigger ships cant and even to get into some islands interior streams. Something like this won't let you battle like on bigger ships, but it will play to a more stealthy playstyle if you want to avoid, or even steal from other players.

    Incorrect.
If you actually paid attention to what they were saying, they were explicitly clear that everything about the sloop was designed and balanced around "a lone player".

  • A latin-Sail kind of "Fisher" boat would be dope.
You get to see them most around Balearic Islands these days, but they are one of the most used boats through the ages.
Common names in spanish for them are Menorquinas, Lauds, Llauts, or vela latina.

I'd love for more ship variety as in means of different skinned sloops, brigs and gallys, without advantages or disadvantages over the "regular" versions.

  • Sloop.... too.... big????

I’ve been running solo since I first joined in the Cursed Sails event/update. It’s not hard if you’re capable of handling the ship.

Yes during PvP encounters it’s a little more difficult but again, if you’re capable you’ll survive no problem.

I’d say the sloop is a bit too crowded, to be frank. I’ve had numerous times when I’ve tried moving to a certain part of the ship, mostly below deck, and I get caught on the corner of something (clothing chest or something) because the little ‘walkway’ between them is so small, just enough to fit one person through. It can cause problems during PvP because you can easily be blocked by someone if you’re trying to go above deck, or in PvE if you’re rushing to fix the holes, and you get stuck on that teeny tiny corner, it takes a hot second to get yourself situated again which is wasting precious time if you’re under pressure (and nearly underwater).

  • @rip-chongy

Yeah. That's also why I barely post anymore. I thought I'd give it another go since they added a bunch of things that have been asked for since pre-alpha, but somewhere along the lines the community became very... stagnant.

  • @rip-chongy This is a place to discuss ideas. You can champion an idea while others provide their perspective. If you are just looking for a suggestion box then submit an email to Rare. If you post an opinion here then be prepared to have others weigh in. It is why the forums exist. Rare did not put this up because they wanted to hear just from you and those who agree with you. An idea with merit will survive scrutiny. I have not noticed any demands for random stuff to be blindly tossed into the game. Just because someone has an idea for a new boat does not mean it should be added without question. Seemingly small changes to the game can easily lead to unintended consequences. We have a right to discuss it.
