Kraken spawn rate and scaling?

    TL:DR is there any scaling for crew/ship size and kraken spawns?

    I've played SoT a lot in the last week to complete all Tall Tales 5 times. I noticed that the boss fights for the tales scale with crew size, not ship size and that made me wonder: does the spawn rate for krakens scale with anything?

    I often (no, make that always) solo-sail galleons. In all that time, I managed to escape from a kraken twice. I never killed it. I think the kraken's attacks scale with ship size, which I am absolutely fine with (I have no illusions that I will ever beat one unless there is another ship fighting it too).

    But this means that whenever I encounter a kraken, I will sink. And I have been seeing a lot of them. In maybe 8 hours of play, I encountered 5 of them. And seeing how they only spawn between other major events, that strikes me as a lot.

    So, can you get more than 1 kraken at the same time, on different parts of the map? Do krakens attack galleons more often than sloops? Or did I just have a lot of bad luck?

    @caudipteryxzoui Yes, kraken and megalodons scale with the ship type. In sloop you only need to kill 3/4 tentacles (5 cannonballs each), and in galleon to kill a tentacle is 10+ cannonbals (didn't count exactly). Also yes, only one kraken can spawn in the same time

    As far as I know there is some scaling depending on ship type but the spawn rate has nothing to do with it. It looks like on a sloop you only need to defeat 2 "normal" tentacles to defeat the Kraken.

    There is only one Kraken at every given time. So, bad luck for the most part.
    Since the Kraken only spawns on ships that are in open water it's possible that sometimes you are the only valid option.

    Why do you solo a galleon?

    @caudipteryxzoui only sail into open waters when there is a cloud event such as an active fort or skeleton ships. Kraken only spawns when there is no active event, so keep an eye on the sky.

    @d-jaguar I heard they only spawn when there is no active event, but sticking to shores is not always possible (though I could of course anchor at an island and do some fishing while waiting. Might do that in the future).

    More than once, I've been krakened right after sailing away from an island, when I was still very close and not what I'd call 'in open water'.

    Edit: and I solo galleons because I find it the most interesting ship to solo. It's the right kind of gameplay for me. (I started doing it because of the advantage in the Devil's Roar)

    I have been playing this game since it came out, admittedly a lot less than I used to and had quite a period of not playing and I still have never seen a Krakken. Some would say i'm lucky but I want to meet one.

    Are we sure anything scales to crew size? Is this mentioned anywhere.

    I only ask because we had 3 Xbox in the same room sharing a hub. We changed crew size many times over the weekend and it appeared to make no difference to skeleton waves.

    We had an issue with three Krakens attacking in succession (obviously a glitch) so wouldn’t know how they would be affected. Meg’s also appeared to be the same regardless of crew size.

    Be interesting if the devs would cast some light on this. Experiences as a player can be misleading.

    Its not crew size its ship size.

    Some misinformation.

    Kraken tentacles die after 8 hits with cannon balls. 8 is the magic numer.

    When you are on a sloop you have to kill 2 tentacles.

    Brig is 6 Tentacles

    Galleon is 8 Tentacles.

    Kraken is actually horribly easy if you know what you are doing. Why players who have run into the Kraken so many times are STILL afraid of it I won't understand.

    The tentacles have a high chance of dropping stronghold loot. I've gotten 2 bone dust, 2 stronghold chests and a strong hold skull from one encounter with the Kraken on a Galleon. Why run from it when it gives you such good loot?

    But yeah Kraken easy peasy lemon squeezy.

    @CaudipteryxZoui Both Tall Tales and encounters scale with ship size. Rare has stated that they do not have the ability to make it scale to crew sizes, only to the ships. I've soloed Graymarrow without taking any damage on a sloop, and then spent 4 hours trying to kill him again on a badly coordinated brigantine. Even after the rest of the crew left, it was a challenge, taking the 4th hour in it's entirety to kill him as compared to about 5-10 minutes on the sloop. The only thing is encounters are designed for full crew galleons and brigantines and solo sloops.

    If you want to avoid krakens, look at the clouds. Anchor when they go down, it doesn't attack you then. Being an event like the stronghold and fleet, only one will appear at a time.

    Also I too solo galleons, partially because of the Devil's Roar, partially because many ships leave them alone, and partially because they have more crew space and things to do on board.

    @EGGamer13 Kraken tentacles on a sloop need to be shot a few times (one if you hit the mouth, about 5 on the base, varied between), then they go under and come up elsewhere. Focus the same one again and it goes permanently and drops treasure. Only two need to be defeated, but through actually trying to waste the time and resource you can defeat 10, all 8 once and 2 twice.

    My crew beliefs when the game decides to spawn the Kraken and there is no eligible ship it will wait for some brief period of time and picks the first ship that gets to open water. This is backed up by anecdotal evidence only (hard to know where all the ships are if you are not in an alliance), so it's a guess at best, take it with a grain of salt.
