Tall Tale Grind.

  • So I decided to take a peek at what you can earn from the new tall tales added to the game and one reward stood out to me. "The Gold Hoarders Curse" is a vanity item that you can earn in the final tall tale "The Shores of Gold" and it must be the most difficult item to obtain in the game as of right now.

complete each tale 5 times and obtain 5 (or more) journals.

Your average legend is going to be able to complete one of these tales in 3 hours or less depending on their skill level. For all of the commendations on one tale you are going spend around 20 hours on each tale. The result of completing every tale would take around 180 hours minimum.

Basically i'm complaining about grind in a game that already is a serious grind, but not having much cash reward in between is really disappointing. These tales are cool the first go around, but after 4 additional repeats the script gets old. It is very likely I'll grind my little heart out to get that amazing cosmetic item, but I don't like remembering this amazing game as being a heavy grind.

The Journey to pirate legend did not make me feel as annoyed because I was getting money and making my own adventures along the way. The tall tales are awesome but they really are not fun when you are replaying the same thing over and over with little reward.

    Summary
The overall problem with tall tales in my opinion is the grind, if that grind is not fixed I feel like in the future more players are going to grow tired of it also due to those final rewards "the best rewards" being so far out of reach

Granted it will take a fair time to complete the Tall Tales completely for all the commendations.

Tall Tales remember is in the game forever.....
All commendations will stay in game, you have as long as you wish to complete. It's only a grind if you choose to make it so.

I would admit that doing an event 5 times ( which seems the new standard ) is not ideal, I personally would prefer 3 times.

However with that said, I will ( in time ), complete Tall Tales in my own good time, and enjoy the journey it takes me on.

  • Nah man, I disagree. Once you know the flow of a tall tale you'll be able to do them in an hour or less.
I'm almost at my 5x shroudbreaker achievement because every time I set sail there's another person in my crew who hasn't started it yet. And even with having them figure it out themselves (I just set sail to the destination untill he/she figures it out) It doesn't take more then an hour.

The Tall tales are here to stay so you don't have to do them all before the next update or bilgerat adventure drops so you'll have plenty of oppurtunity to do them.

  • @doggedmocha i genuinly dont get parts of this community...

Lets go back to the release of the hungering deep:

“There is no replay value, why should i help other crews do this questline if there is nothing in it for me... rebel rebel rebel rebel”

Fast forward a little less then a year:

“Why is there replay value ? Why cant i just haz the extra cosmetics once i have done everything once.... rebel rebel rebel rebel”

Tall tales are not for gaining large sums of gold, but that might not be apparant to people not actually listening to the dialogs/reading them... its about an old story that we have to get to the botom of.

3k per tall tale 10k for the last one is about 34k in gold whilst being able to fish and other voyages, because you can put other voyages down at the same time. And thats not even taking into account all the other cosmetics you receive.

If you want some cosmetics, play it once, if you want all cosmetics play multiple times, hey maybe with different crews to help people. Each experience will be different

  • Grind? What are you talking about? This is far from a grind. Go play an MMO and tell me again how much of a grind this is. Good lord.

  • It's a long term reward. This curse cosmetic being the "ultimate" reward. Should we just let everyone hit athena 10 by turning in one chest? I'm really enjoying these stories, and I've played some of them a number of times. Take it slow, if you grind it out you'll go crazy.
