I agree on both counts.
Let us decide when the lunge should kick.
Let us cancel the lunge if we no longer need it or the stun.
Another piece I would like to add, is why does a sword lunge land-to-land do the normal jump forward but when I'm trying to lunge land-to-water, it kills my forward momentum instantly?
It's like the game knows I'm trying to lunge land-to-water but if there's even an inch of land in front of me, it punishes me for not being perfectly set up for the water lunge.
When a normal lunge would be sufficient for what I need.
Aaaaarrrrgghhhhh...frustrating!!!
I heard when I started the game about a month after it was released that the lunge (going a distance off of ships, heights, etc) is actually an unintended mechanic. It is sort of like a bug that rare was going to fix. But the players wanted to keep it because it was useful to board people and tactically attack from different directions.
I know what you're saying. If you're on a shoreline. You need to have a perfect jump where the lunge will launch you into the water. Sometimes you hit the top of the water and you don't go anywhere.
So, because it is a bug per sey they haven't really addressed it. I think only 1 update addressed a bug where you would fall straight down on a lunge. Or if you lunged through the water you would stop all of the sudden.
