Tweak to the Sword Lunge

  • This idea is pretty simple.

Hold to charge a sword lunge. But, it won't actually lunge until you let go of the left mouse or the Xbox trigger (I don't play on controller so whatever that button is for it).

    AND

While holding down the charge. Give players the option to hold F or a button on the controller to cancel the lunge. This way accidental sword lunges won't happen. And, this will improve some of the tactics involved with swordplay. So, you can fake people out. Or, get that perfect strike if patient.

I agree with sword cancel being a good idea, but infinite holding would make it really OP.

There is many times I have wanted to cancel my sword lunge but instead of flying way off target.

  • Ye, sword cancel for sure that would be super useful

  • @man-o-war-meche

Yeah they should maybe make it a 5-10 second hold or until your trigger is let go. Cause you don't want people camping doorways and tight areas all day until someone walks through to get double lunged or something.

  • I agree on both counts.

Let us decide when the lunge should kick.
Let us cancel the lunge if we no longer need it or the stun.

Another piece I would like to add, is why does a sword lunge land-to-land do the normal jump forward but when I'm trying to lunge land-to-water, it kills my forward momentum instantly?

It's like the game knows I'm trying to lunge land-to-water but if there's even an inch of land in front of me, it punishes me for not being perfectly set up for the water lunge.

When a normal lunge would be sufficient for what I need.

    Aaaaarrrrgghhhhh...frustrating!!!

I heard when I started the game about a month after it was released that the lunge (going a distance off of ships, heights, etc) is actually an unintended mechanic. It is sort of like a bug that rare was going to fix. But the players wanted to keep it because it was useful to board people and tactically attack from different directions.

I know what you're saying. If you're on a shoreline. You need to have a perfect jump where the lunge will launch you into the water. Sometimes you hit the top of the water and you don't go anywhere.

So, because it is a bug per sey they haven't really addressed it. I think only 1 update addressed a bug where you would fall straight down on a lunge. Or if you lunged through the water you would stop all of the sudden.

  • @lord-szarvas
    LOL
It's definitely the best bug in the game.
I love that it's there and I use it as often as possible.
I hope that it's a bug that remains and is improved.
I haven't quite perfected the lunge-jump, can do it better on console than on PC, but it too is a fantastic accident.

I think I might have hastily commented with what causes it to happen. I will do some more tests and see if there are ways to prevent the land-to-water lunge from stopping so suddenly.

    Peace, M'Lord.

  • They should make it so you can hold for a few seconds then you will have to release.

  • @qabic Keep it as is just allow players to cancel it so they can feign a lunge.
