  • @medschoolscan Lucky you are not my doctor then.
And even if I was, what’s wrong with being autistic? It seems it would be a better option than having an attitude like yours :)

@swimplatypus7 The elite controller allows you to remap existing buttons not add additional ones and any use of third party hardware will get you banned for breaking the Xbox TOS. Also an elite controller is exactly the same as a normal controller minus the paddles on the back, you are still restricted to using your thumbs on joysticks to aim rather than your arm on a mouse. There’s still no comparison.

Also your basically saying to get the game more balanced I should have to spend money on an SSD and an elite controller or M&K...
That’s an insane suggestion, why should I be forced to pay almost 3 times the price of the game if not more just so I can play on a even playing field, which even then is not guaranteed.

I personally think it’s up to the developers to balance the game so all players are on a close to equal footing as possible. No one should have to pay additional money for a fair game.
That’s litrally Pay-to-win, one thing mind Rare said SoT will never be.

I do believe you missed the point. The point I was making is that things are not even across the X-box platforms. Ignoring PC player entirely there is still disparity between players regarding hardware.

Regardless of this Rare is opening up M&K support so that argument put forth by a lot of people is now out outmoded because the support is coming.

I got the SSD and it's a massive advantage VS other X-box players, so again things are not even for X-box only players. Then factor in the other versions of X-box that are superior to the original 2013 base model and it's kinda obvious that there will never be equality no matter how much shouting people do.

  • @swimplatypus7 Ahh sorry, I did miss it. I’m half asleep, probably shouldn’t be trying to debate something at this moment in time. 😂

But you are right, I can agree we are never going to get perfect balance.

@swimplatypus7 why I should buy a faulty elite controller? It costs the same as xim apex. Brilliant m+k adapter. Elite is a waste of time. I broke 2 in 3 years, regret to buy 1st one. Shame on me for buying a second. NEVER BUY ELITE, BUY XIM. Best solution out there,

You're the second person to tell me the Elite dies.. Ill be repairing mine when it does; if it does.

As for Mouse and Keyboard, it's already in the cards for us on X-box by default come Feb 6th the game will support this by default. I welcome it, but I don't plan on using M&K because Sea of Thieves is a slow game that does not actually garner the advantage some like to make believe.

We all need to remember this is a VERY slow game, it's not even worthy of being called FPS because its so slow. That slowness is why controller play works and why even though you can use M&K it's not going to provide the improvement that some would like to imagine it will.

  • @swimplatypus7 I went through 2 in a year and gave up. They are truly awfully designed and way over priced! Seriously not worth the money in my honest opinion.

Don’t get me wrong the paddles really did help, but you need to be a millionaire to be able to keep up with the costs of them.

However I did have a friend who managed to get his repaired for free a couple of times on his Xbox’s warrenty, apparently it comes under the accessories bit. Although I never tried so cannot confirm.

  • @knifelife

What died on yours? I heard that the bumpers die; was this true for you as well?

  • @swimplatypus7 The first issues was the grips always came off that happened on both within about a month. (Can’t day my hands sweat much either so don’t know why they did) but that was nothing major just more anoying.
But for the first one it was the right trigger and the second one was the left joystick, it just decided to have a mind of its own and get stuck permanently moving forward.

  • @knifelife

Oh, now that's no good.. Thankfully a lot of the parts can be sourced from industrial electronics companies.. The problem with consumer grade stuff is that it's usually made of garbage.

Thankfully industrial quality components are not really that expensive, but massively upgrade your gear.

Hoarded 50 chests and you have the nerve to complain someone sunk you?
You have no actual idea if they were PC or not. You got your butt handed to you, so you assume the natural excuse.
Losing all the treasure after a 4 hour grind? Your own fault. I'm sure there were multiple outposts you had sailed by that you could have sold at.

You got pirated in a pirate game. Welcome to Sea of Theives. Next time, perhaps sell a little more often to mitigate the losses when you are sunk again?

How dare you tell someone how to play!, so it ok for a p.c twitch streamer to hijack the whole server on their side?, to go for the most amount of loot without the fear of being attacked because the whole server is helping?.

Cmon bud, you honestly can't be that dense.

If you are going to hoard 50 chests, you deserve what you get when you are sunk and lose it, as you would have had ,multiple opportunities to sell. Complaining about being pirated in a pirate game after that is pathetic.

Since when is that fact advocating for Streamers to take over servers, or even agreeing that such a strategy is acceptable? Oh, right......it isn't.

On top of that, you honestly think some players don't align and take over full servers and that it's just Twitch streamers? Think again.

Sounds like you have a major salt buildup from PC players and Twitch streamers in general.....do we need a doll so you can illustrate where the big bad PC streamer touched you?

Ok princess, you can tell if they or on p.c by the immature insults they type when they jump on your boat and double gun while jumping every second.

And does talking about dolls and touching places bring back childhood memories?.

  • Ahoy @medschoolscan!

You can't just go round throwing out comments like that matey, please remember to treat everyone here with the same amount of respect as you yourself would expect to be treated with.

I have edited your post as it does not comply with the forum rules, please remember to stick to these when posting in the future.

Name calling, personal attacks and using derogatory language against Community Members, Rare Employees, Global Moderators or Deckhands is not acceptable. Using such language will result in a warning, then temporary ban from the Forums and a final warning. If the action is persistent or increasingly aggressive, a permanent ban from the Forums will be issued.

  • @coffeemango9866 lots of replies. Not going to read all.
First. Why would you carry that many chests. Especially if you're afraid of PC players
Second. Did you stop to ask if they were PC players... that'll get you dead.
Third. Why do you have that many chests on your ship... Mostly for reiterating how bad an idea that was.
Pretty sure you could have handed in 10 times during that collection and lost maybe 5.

Edit For Clarification: This is the hugely censored pirate code friendly response that I'm not 100% sure you deserve.
HOW DO YOU KNOW THEY WERE ON PC?

  • @coffeemango9866 This thread has gone pretty much as I expected it would.

The same arguments, the same deadlock.

Today there will be some mention of crossplay in the Dev update video. Hopefully that will clarify Rare's official position.

I sincerely doubt it will end the discussion. There seems to be a lot of stubborness, intransigence and entrenched positions on both sides of this. Unless people are willing to climb down from their battlements I don't see this argument going away any time soon.

We can argue until the end of time, but we'll get nowhere. Better to sit down and have a real discussion. That real discussion cannot happen until we have established the facts. Currently we have opinions. There is an advantage, there is no advantage, both are only opinions until we have the data to prove or disprove them.

That's what I hope for from Rare's statement, clarity, does their data show an advantage or not? Once we know that, we'll know for sure whether there factually is a problem.

If there is, it needs to be addressed.

If there isn't we need to look at why some people are so convinced that there is, and either educate them or resolve the issue that is causing this misconception.

um, PC players pay more for better experiences. my cruddy laptop can only manage about 30fps at a low resolution. should I have an option to play lower spec'ed devices?

  • @marsmayflower I get that mate, but you pay that for your overall gaming experience. Your not expected to spend £100s just for one game.

it's all relative. many people in this world would not pay anything to play 100 games.

in my eyes, the xbox is just a value PC with an easier interface.

  • @knifelife I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

  • @daveyjay1984 Honestly I’ve been in these conversations for so long even I lose track on the tangents I sprout of in 😂

Long story short and simplified, my crossplay stance is:

Add optional input based matchmaking. No platform segregation just a choice to play by device if you so choose just like Fortnite has done.
They have set an amazing precedent for crossplay and managed to bring all platforms together with next to no complaints and fairness.
It’s what all developers aspiring to get in on crossplay should push for.

Basically that’s my stance on the whole thing. :)

  • @knifelife I wouldn't be against an option, if there is a proven need for it. I am against kneejerk reactions to vocal sections of the community unless their concerns are proven.

I've seen good games ruined by pandering to the vocal masses. I've also seen Rare cave on things that might have been good additions (death tax) because of community outcry. So there's legitimate cause for concern.

If the issue is legitimate then I would like to see it addressed though. I want everyone to be able to enjoy the game.

Here's a side consideration for people who want to drive a wedge between xbox and pc though: What if, despite the low numbers on PC, it was PC players who kept the game alive when things got really quiet? What if, it's only because of the PC crowd that the game survived long enough to garner all this streamer hype? Still want to potentially make the game dead on PC? Would you still feel like PC players are ruining the game under those circumstances?

  • @boxcar-squidy Thats why it should be option input device not platform segregation. Crossplays great and should definitely be encouraged.
It just needs to be implemented in the right way.

But answering your what ifs I think if it was added in the way I say it wouldn’t happen. Especially when SoT gets M&K support for console to. I personally just think it gives everyone the option to play the game how they want to.

And as an added bonus there theoretically shouldn’t be anymore crossplay threads anymore xD
Well in my opinion genuine concerned crossplay ones. I think you will always get people who accuse all PC players of being cheaters but that’s just the same as all Xbox players being squeaky kids xD

  • Question not worthy of its own thread so I'm just tacking it on here: does anyone know when today's dev update is?

  • @vorondil1 usually before 5.00 pm UK time, I think. The Dev's have homes to get back to, and if what i hear about the calander is correct, lots of lovely doggos needing walkies.

    Why not?
My first taste of SoT was during the Scale Test on my roommates Xbox.
Loved the game but as a PC gamer the controller was freaking awkward, if only I could play this on pc.
So I had to upgrade my potato to Win10, and deal with MS Store, and Xbox Live to play SoT.
No problem, as a lifelong PC gamer, this is what we do for games we want to play.

So I had to gear up to play SoT the way I wanted to, and have no regrets.

This is why it chaps my britches when console players cry about crossplay and kb/m.

We all sail on a sea of salty tears.
