Continue Reputation After Level 50

  • This ties into the treasure apathy issue deeply.
Im not suggesting that we continue leveling normally after 50, but that we have a experience counter that ties into a leaderboard. Once you get to PL you unlock the leaderboards and it gives you a smaller number next to your 50s. I suppose it could count each type of item or just assign an experience value to each one. Or count gold earned.
    Or all of the above.
How about we actually make it so getting loot matters to PLs.
    Tools not rules, right?

  • Many of us have been turning in loot as PLs for many months. Its been that long yet we are still using a system that was designed for this game as an infant, and here we are at 15 years old. If anything needs a fix its the rep system.

  • @mith-bosevem I don't know if adding more reputation grind is the way to go. The good thing is that loot DOES matter to legends now. The Pirate Legend commendations to unlock the Pirate Legend equipment pieces require a certain number of skulls / chests / cargo turned in to complete. Additionally, progressing through those commendations awards Athena's Fortune reputation. I would honestly not enjoy an increased level cap. I like knowing that I don't need to grind for rep anymore.

  • @chronodusk I never said anything about an increased level cap. I specifically said NOT that. Im thinking more like a post-game where it just counts what youve turned in. You know, instead of nothing at all.

  • @mith-bosevem It does count. For the commendations.

  • @chronodusk Lol heavy sigh

  • Why do you need to continue the levels? Nobody can "read" what the other person's levels are...The fact that a Level 1 Pirate can take out a Pirate Legend Level 10 is one of the most beautiful features this game has....Back in the Alpha's ,there were no levels , and we felt so free to roam where we wanted , treasure was reaped for money , money was used for buying clothes ...

But then the game released and Levels were there too, and many missed the real reason Sot was made and started to hoard stuff without having interaction with other Pirates nor the world to quickly become Level 50 everywhere in every faction...How many have complained of grinding towards that level 50 number?...

i'm finally Pirate Legend , and it only means that i spend a lot of time here , but luckely i only felt i was " grinding " my last two levels , all the other 148 levels have been done in fun without having a care on how much time it took me...The Friends, the Adventures and stories in my head were the most important...

i feel free now , i don't care about the Pirate Legend levels 10 nor any other level anymore...i can do whatever mission i want or i can join a crew that need help getting some treasure in to become quicker Legend and ...become Free again...

So , and not to offend you , let the rising of levels there ...Levelling can be done in 100.000 other games ,let Rare develop further without bringing new shackles around our ankles again...

  • @Mith-Bosevem Implementing leaderboard isn't the worst idea since it's a relatively simple one, but @PersonalC0ffee does have a very good point that this only contributes to the endless grind system, which generally should be avoided. Any system designed to combat treasure-apathy should ideally be constructed through making treasure more tangibly or directly valuable, via in-game mechanisms

One of my design tenets is essentially: "grinding is not content, but rather, a chore". Implementing leaderboards does actually help to motivate some players to play, however, it motivates them for all the wrong reasons. Like @PersonalC0ffee said: "This is that watch a number go up for the sake of going up mentality..." Grinding is a chore that 'rewards' a player with an ego boost, sense of accomplishment, etc. all the while being completely unfun. Real content is the journey, not the destination. If a game isn't fun while on your way to a specific accomplishment, then the game itself isn't fun, regardless of whatever psychological 'reward' it gives you at the end.
