Mermaid Statues, what are they?

  • I don't know about most of you but I feel underwhelmed by this Bilgerat Adventure.

It added a random encounter t the world in likeness to Zubats in Mt. Moon Cave in Pokemon Red and Blue. They're plenty of them, you just wanna find the right colours.

My second problem is that they don't solve any mysteries or add lore, only adding questions.

    What are they?
Is this what happens to the sailors turned mermaid?
Is this how the curse starts/ends?
    Why are we destroying them?
    What are they for?
    Who are we helping?

There is nothing really giving us answers.

Of all updates so far I think the Bilgerat adventures are lacking in the lore department.

I love this game, it's unique and fun. But I think there are some huge chances to explore the lore in Bilgerat adventures. Sadly non of them have done that so far.

    Skeletonthrones, Skelebombers, Mermaid statues.
First one could have given us something about why they had thrones. Second is kinda obvious that something is needed to speed up skull-forts and make it more exciting. Third could have given a clue to how pirates contract the curse or get rid of it, or gives us something about how the curse works.

Rant over, now I wanna know how you guys feel about this adventure?

  • Yeah kinda disappointed in this event. The statues are so boring.
RARE should've looked at the gnomes from Fable, those were fun to find and shoot. (They also taunted you which was funny)

  • @moonshot-guide Honestly I have enjoyed every bilge adventure this being the most because i didnt have to rely on pvp hungry players on a skull fort to complete the commendations. Tht gunpowder legendary plot one is redicicilousy the one bilge rat commendation ill sadly never accomplish prolly

  • @moonshot-guide I agree these events should have added some lore aspects to them its sad they didnt

  • @hoppentosse said in Mermaid Statues, what are they?:

There is nothing that inspires me to interact with the statues.

Getting the limited time cosmetics I guess...

  • The events ante nothing more then fillers, to keep you not forget about the game.
Rare makes a hen out of a feather and want to overhype chairs and stone figures to be something it’s not.

The best way to support Rare is to quit playing the game and let them know they’re doing things wrong. Then maybe they actually start to work towards making the right decisions and release things to enrich the world in sot.

  • its impossible bringing every 2 weeks huge content updates....
i dont think they overhyped it

  • I wrote about this in another thread but I actually think this event adds a lot to the game since it encourages you to search for things under water, which is a huge and beautiful part of the game that we almost never get to explore! The only problem for me is that once the event ends, the statues become useless since there are no rewards currently for destroying them.

You could say that the skeleton thrones are the same thing, but to me they were much more challenging and fun to do so it was rewarding enough to just complete them.

  • @skritsarn Indeed. The underwater thing is fun but I feel no real reward for doing it. It's just MORE meh. I wanna know why we're killing these statues and why they're malevolent and why are there statues to begin with, where's this treasure that mermaids gather from sunken ships? That last part is unconfirmed to be in the game but I distinctly remember that the inspiration for the mermaids in this game was something about rainbow corals, sunken ship museum, treasure and stuff.

  • well i have to say that (im not happy) but i still love the game, and all the small thing they do is making me happy for the moment, im done with the new event, but still i can find soooo much random loot so the seek of trinkets and small stuff make me happy

    thanks rare!

  • Pay them no mind, they are just stoned mermaids.

    Get it? STONED! Hahaha...

    I will show myself out

  • @skritsarn My hope is that the statues remain as loot spawns around which you can find treasure. Unfortunately, I’ve had little luck finding loot around them - only two so far. The Gunpowder Skelies was the best event so far (multi-crew requirement aside.) I’m just going to do my voyages and, if I come across these I’ll destroy them, but, I’m not going to actively seek them out. I like that I can complete the entire thing solo if so really wanted to; but, it’s just not a particularly interesting thing to do.

  • @bran-the-ent I hope they do something in the future beyond just giving you a point towards a commendation...

  • @chitownsace3

Did you not know, that commendation is glitched - you can do it solo and don't need another crew.

Even if you did, you can just hide in the island and let the other crew do all the work whilst you get the commendation.

  • Actually a buddy of mine showed me some of the paintings around an island (I forgot what the name was) that did show some lore behind the statues. They talk about how 2 survivors of a ship wreck on the island encountered the mermaids and they took one of them to create a bigger and stronger mermaid, the other survivor died on the island. You could see the phases of the transformation they did to the survivor along with some lunar cycles, as well as the different colored mermaids, but they weren't statues but actual moving mermaids. I believe the statues are just test subjects of people being cursed by the mermaids, or they're cocoons waiting to release a new npc monster for a future update; IDK. There was a bug with Wanda where she her name and dialogue was removed, but an animation was added of her looking at her arm in fear. People speculated that this was because she was cursed as well and is turning into a mermaid, but it got patched and she's back to her normal self.

A lot of paintings on many islands, as well books and ship wrecks, show a lot of lore of these events we're having; I'm not sure if there were any paintings for the thrones but I do know that the Bilge Rats built them to test us for future adventures like these statues. There's a lot of lore if you pay attention to the little details or know where to look.

  • @rabbyt3 Well, that's lore for the mermaids, but not the mermaid statues. Nor do I buy the thrones lore... it was a carnival game - a kind of e-sports.

  • @peteloaf777 I have hid on the island before but still reyling on the other crew is redick
