The chest of a thousand grogs and the chest of sorrow are cool additions. But what if there was a chest worth like 2,000 gold that would ping you on everyone's map or something. Like a good payout for a good risk. Just diversity in the chests would be nice. Same as skulls.
More legendary chests
From my experience, the rarity of the legendary chests doesn't match up well with their gold reward, as they can easily be no more than a captain's chest. If finding one is supposed to be a rare and awesome event, it should continue to feel that way after you turn it in for that awesome payout, especially considering the annoyance toting around a Sorrows can be.
I realize, but that's also an important factor to consider. So here's an idea:
Chest of Witchlights: At night, your ship will light up with St. Elmo's fire (a real phenomenon!), causing luminous orbs to appear on your masts and rigging. These orbs would be as visible as lanterns, letting other ships know that you DEFINITELY have something worth stealing on board. Both visually impressive and a definite danger to carry around at night.
