  • @xxxrookxxx I very rarely get full servers.

Server hoppers and people scuttling and leaving if I approach them.

    So.... Yeahhhh... No.

This game is a ghost town more often than not.

How do you pull up the server lobby? I haven't been able to see how many players are in my server, but did you find a way?

Yeaaaahhhh, nevermind, your full of shiz.

  • @gloog Simple. Ships are easy to see. You can move around quite a bit and never see another soul. Stay on long enough for a fort to pop up and you can often take it uncontested. Player interactions are far more sparse today than at launch. I was never sailing around seeing nobody at launch. Now I am.

  • @mrgrim67686 oh so you can't. Coincidentally theres been no difference on my end.

Are you using your brain though? Game pop size and server filling are different things.

  • @gloog I find that exceptionally hard to believe.

  • @mrgrim67686 I don't think you understand game pop and server filling. The servers filling themselves have nothing to do with the games population unless you want to tell me less than 24 people are playing?

  • @gloog I'm not finding many populated servers at all. It is exceedingly rare for me to find other activity on any server I join.

One of the few people I know who still plays this game likes to server hop for forts, and I have a bit better luck playing with him. I'm not a fan of loading screens though so I tend to just stay on whatever server I land in. Either way, I'm not finding many people in a server.

They definitely need to lift the ceiling on the servers.

  • Okay content is coming, so we are told.
Whether the game could be considered satisfactory as a complete game in six months time or a year from now, in reality that's when it should have been released.
Charging full price for an incomplete game is just robbery. More so for those living in Canada or even more expensive, Australia.

Someone made reference in this thread to buying a hamburger that wasn't juicy enough so the customer complains. No, we paid for a hamburger and only got the bread roll.
Sure it's a very nice looking bread roll but that's all it is.
By the time the meat, egg, bacon and tomato arrives I would have already eaten the bread roll and gone to another source of food to satisfy my hunger.
And there is still no guarantee that all of those ingredients will arrive at the same time.
Why serve up lettuce and tomato months after the meat has gone stone cold?

Edit: It's kind of like a service provider charging their loyal customer base over $80 for the same service they give to new comers for less than $60. The new SoT players in a year's time will get far more "bang for buck" than those of us who have financially supported the game's development now, in its infant stage... but might have moved on by then.

  • @mrgrim67686
I have played for about 5 hours today i have all sorts of ppl today. Seems populated to me. Maybe u were just unlucky

  • @nwo-azcrack I must be very unlucky, because it seems to be a regular occurrence. I'm actually surprised to see other ships. ...and the majority of the time they will scuttle instead of fighting. I wish Rare hadn't been pushing scuttling so hard, since it seems to be the cool thing to do now. "Hey guys, I'm a quitter!" Just ... ugh.

I've been tending to just waltz unopposed through the forts now too with extremely light (hit once and die, never return) or no opposition.

The only thing keeping me playing is the PvP and I'm having a hard time finding people to fight.

  • @mrgrim67686
Wow u must be real unlucky.... i contested 3 forts today. All packed with sloops and galleons.

  • @nwo-azcrack I've had one busy fort in a week.

  • Its crazy two million online to now its barely a top twenty played game that's not good and no amount of content is going to bring a massive change. First impression are everything.

  • Can we stop making these posts please? they're starting to get very old like seriously nobody cares.

I paid £50 for SOT, the problem I have is the grinding feels so much like your average f2p game

Feels hell of a lot like an F2P game. Graphics are good, but barely on par with the major releases.

most free to play games are much better than this game.

  • @sweetbeard90 personally have not logged into the game in a week. Mainly because of forced cross play. However, I may have played more if the content where there.
My new hobby is reading mean offensive posts on the forums. I think it's hilarious to see people resort to personal attacks when they lack good debate skills.

  • @mrgrim67686

Eh, the scuttle strategy is really down to the community more than Rare. Ever since the alpha any complaint about being spawn camped or harassed was dismissed with varying forms of "Just scuttle noob, lol."

It's like how everyone told the people complaining about outpost campers to simply look for mermaids and now other people are asking for a change to mermaids so they can't anymore.

  • This is your opinion. Sorry you feel this way.

  • Honestly I think that SoT's failure is more to do with the fact that this game is meant to be a social experience yet we do not have any way to socialize beyond the forums and Xbox Live. There is no social hub, there are no in-game tools, nothing...

Contrary to popular belief, it's clear that through the gameplay videos, dev insights, etc. that they wanted this game to really be a "shared world adventure game" like they claim it to be. But they were overly optimistic and underestimated the nature of zero-consequence free-form PvP and how people handle it in online games where they have no attachment to the game world nor any risks at stake for failing/losing.

As a result the community has become quite toxic compared to how it was during the Pioneer/Tech Alpha tests, and there are folks who legit believe that Sea of Thieves is just another PvP game; and that's what the game really has turned into until Rare adds more stuff to the game or else addresses the massive tentacled elephant in the room.

This is basically supposed to be a pseudo-sandbox experience where we create our own adventures, yet we don't have the tools to properly do so and PvP becomes the fallback in the absence of any compelling PvE content or reasons to work with other pirate ships. Rare failed in giving us really anything to work with beyond PvP and some very basic yet mega-repetitive activities with a few side distractions randomly scattered about.

It's frustrating because this game feels like it was released a year too early, and I don't know if Rare can even do enough to make it better. They horribly missed their initial mark in regards to what they wanted this game to be like, unless they in fact wanted it to devolve into just another PvP game.

  • I think there's a kind of assumption now that a game "doesn't start" until you reach the end, so I think that a lot of the disappointment with the grind and rewards comes from the realization that this expectation doesn't hold true for Sea of Thieves.

This is a game where playing the game IS the game, not just a means to reach the "real game."

If you don't enjoy what it is now, becoming a Pirate Legend probably isn't going to change that - so don't focus on grinding, focus on having fun and the reputation/money will come!

  • Most of my friends stopped playing already.
I had to restart after a bug happened to my character.
It's boring solo. Get 1 voyage completed and quit everytime.

Without friends playing there is no reason to continue playing.
Random crews without mics that brig you instantly ruins the game.
The clunky PvP and crossplay is not very fun on Xbox One.

If they are saving a huge selection of cosmetics to be sold for real money it's going to be the death of Sea Of Thieves.

Lack of content for hairstyles, clothing, ships, sails, equipment and songs to play.
    Grindy boring fetch quests.

No epic boss battles or giant enemies to fight.
I'm bored of only fighting skeletons that all have aimbot.

No reason to grind to pirate legend only to get a purple and gold ''p**p'' outfit.
The ''ghost'' outfit does not change your character to look like you do on the ferry of the damned.

  • This is a gamepass game only and never should have been sold as a full price game.
Two weeks of fun and your done.

  • SOT failed as a game in much the same way a half-written essay tends to fail as an essay. Solid introduction and thesis, but...

You can always contact Microsoft Chat Support and see if you can get a refund. For all but a tiny minority this game is only worth temporary Game Pass subs.

  • I don’t think it flat out failed, but it was released 6-18 months too early. We will never know the business side of Microsoft/rare on how/why they got the green light, but I think part of the issue is actually that Rare loved their game too much and thought others would follow suit. Additionally, I think much of the feedback (though there are PLENTY of examples of Rare not acting on top feedback concerns from alpha and pioneer sessions) was not constructive enough. Personally, much of the feedback I provided was too positive because I assumed that the builds I was playing (for free) were just a mere fraction of the game. I was just excited to play and be a part of the community. I imagine that Rare was quite surprised when the reviews and general perceptions of the game started to form because they have genuine love for the game and they were under the impression that their community, at the time, was 100% supportive. No ill will from me at all, I hope Rare can fix their game.

  • saying it failed is kind of a narrow minded view. they chose, rightly or wrongly, to make this the kind of game that stays fresh over years by constantly adding to it. destiny, the division, and rainbow six:seige are recent examples of games that started slow but shined later when they fully blossomed. i missed the boat on those games (giving up on seige and destiny too early), and was interested in riding this one out once i read their game plan. to implement this they have to go against the instant gratification personalities, who are very vocal when not gratified. it's a risk on rare's part, but one i intend to see play out. it might mean taking some breaks here and there, but i'm not calling anything a failure until the story is written.

  • Sea of Thieves is actually our best selling title of all time! We're incredibly excited for the future, and to start rolling out the new content very soon. The figures in this article do not include gamepass players:
    https://venturebeat.com/2018/04/24/npd-sea-of-thieves-is-the-fastest-selling-rare-ever-tracked/

  • @lady-aijou Amazing what trailers and misinformation can do. Id get a refund because I believed your lie about legendary being something great. Turns out it was b******s, obviously I didnt know that so grinded like everyone else only to see some idiot on twitch unlocked it first and it turned out to be more of the same. Disappointing. Joke.

Silver lining, no reason to use that [Mod edited] xbox app on pc anymore xD

  • @uvg-reign
an opinion can never be a lie, its just an opinion. the greatness of something is always defined by the person claiming it to be so. i say sushi is great. is my claim a lie if you hate sushi? save the lie hammer for real lies.

Nonsense, when a marketing team makes a claim that a reasonable person would understand to be false once they received the product then it is a LIE. It is a FRAUD.

They claimed pirate legend was "when the game really begins" and that was a flat LIE. Not an opinion, A LIE. Pirate legend is the SAME QUESTS AS THE 50/50/50 GRIND BEFORE IT!

To claim it was an opinion is ridiculous.

I understand Rare is trying to remedy this and fix pirate legend BUT THEY FLAT OUT LIED TO US FIRST.

It is not a matter of a difference of opinion.

And unfortunately, because pirate legend is a tiny fraction of the player base right now Rare put themselves in the ridiculous position of having to use development time to create content for a fraction of the player base at the opportunity cost of desperately needed content for the majority of the player base.

They should NEVER have claimed that legendary was "where the game began".

Also, literally centuries of case history both US and British common law has made it clear that an opinion can be a lie if a reasonable person would see the "opinion" used in marketing as falsely representing a product. And it can even have criminal and civil consequences.

I am not saying Rare committed a crime. However, the vast majority of players know that what Rare delivered was not what they had promised. Often explicitly. They even have videos of things that would be in the game at launch that they did not deliver.

Yeah, super epic. No cutlass or sword in the game comes even remotely close to how epic the Rogue Sea Dog Cutlass is. It is by far the best, most effective, most dangerous, most incredibly gorgeous, and awesome looking cutlass in the game. Better by far than anything else in the game or anything they could possibly come up with. Literally, it is unique and without peer.
